You know what I actually have never seen before? A grenade going off, and I don't mean a thrown one, I mean a stationary grenade that someone tied a string to the pin and yanked it and let it blow up. I think it'd look sick to see exactly what it looks like.
Interesting fact is that the barrett's .416 round is designed from a necked down 50 bmg cartridge and is actually more effective at longer ranges due to its higher velocity. It's supposed to be supersonic past 2000 yards.
It’s not only because of its higher initial velocity though. The .416 is loaded with 452 grain bullets that have a G1 BC of .82 whereas a standard M33 ball for the .50 BMG is 661 grains at .62 G1 BC. In other words, the .416 could start off at the same speed as, or even slower than, the .50 and it would still win a long distance race to 2000 yards and hit the target with more velocity.
SI Captain here! 2135 mph = 3436 km/h = 955 m/s 1703 mph = 2741 km/h = 761 m/s 577 mph = 929 km/h = 258 m/s 799 mph = 1286 km/h = 357 m/s You're welcome!
As Gaz said in COD 4; "Your fruit killin' skills are remarkable". Nice video gents! I enjoyed it. The difference in velocity from pistols to rifles is amazing.
@ exactly which means that bigger is not always better. That barret is awesome for armored stuff, but for a softer target you might get greater damage using 7.62. That's why it was so interesting for me to see
Shinigami not really. The average round out of a .416 is actually going slightly faster than the average .50 BMG load. And at either of those speeds, the amount of energy is too high, and the human body is too soft, for any significant difference in damage. And all of that is besides the point. If someone is shooting at you with such a large caliber rifle, they probably aren’t aiming for anything below the sternum.
Very interesting - .45 was travelling at 577 mph - the land speed record for Thrust SSC is 763 mph. A guy in a car can travel faster than the .45 along the ground - and furthermore would be able to catch up the bullet at almost 200 mph - itself enough to be fatal if it hits you. As for the 9mm if he were not concentrating on driving at 763 mph so hard Andy Green would be able to pluck that bullet out of the air I suspect. Amazing speed difference across all four.
"would be able to catch up the bullet at almost 200 mph - itself enough to be fatal if it hits you" Wow, that's a very imaginative scenario, but totally correct!
So theoretically if the Barrett bullet could travel across planet earth, it can come back to the same spot that it was shot at in only 3.7 hours. That's insane!
Scientist in the streets-gorilla in the sheets that's actually a legitimate theory for cheap space travel. But instead of shrinking people, we make HUGE guns. This is quite efficient for moving cargo that won't be destroyed by the acceleration. So if you could make g proof suits, you could by all means jump in your giant space gun, and people wouldn't think you were *that* crazy. However, as we are currently lacking in g-proof technology, this method would liquefy humans. Some of my favorite theoretical machines that follow a similar principle to this are the Space Sled and the Slingatron, although both have been shelved as too inefficient and probably just ridiculous. But still, how cool is the name "Slingatron".
No, bullet drop is due to 9.81 m/s^2 acceleration due to gravity. A stationary bullet dropped from your hand will drop at exactly the same rate as a bullet fired from a gun. The reduced "drop" for higher velocity rounds is because they cover the distance to the target in less time and therefore don't fall as far in that time.
wanna know how to tell the difference between a ak-47 and a ak variant? ak47's are illegal, so unless your watching illegal gun fights, its not a ak-47
TheCamoCaliber It's more about how the AK-47 used a milled receiver, which was more expensive to produce than the AKM which used a stamped receiver. Therefore, far more AKM's were produced than Ak-47's. In fact, most Ak-47's are either improperly labeled AKM's or the more common Type 56, which is essentially a Chinese mass-produced copy of the Soviet AKM.

The bullet is moving slower, sure, but it's also more massive than the 9mm, so it probably has a lot more momentum/kinetic energy, which factor in both velocity and mass.
The formula for kinetic energy (KE) is 0.5mv^2. The .45 going so slow compared to the 9 mm, and then that huge difference in speeds is now squared, the 9 m m has more KE. Why the .45 does more damage, however, is because of impulse.

Jared Vance -- not really. 5.56x45 NATO is around 3000fps at the muzzle, 300 Blackout and 7.62x39 are around 2200fps at the muzzle. .45ACP out of a rifle length barrel gets close to 950fps. Sure, the gap is about the same, but they're in different cartridge categories. 7.62x39, 5.56 NATO and 300 Blackout are all rifle cartridges, while .45 ACP is a pistol cartridge. The two categories can't really be completely compared.
Don't sleep on .45 APC. Just because it's slower, doesn't make it less lethal. .45 APC is fired at sub-sonic speeds. Which means, there's no "Crack" when a bullet flies by your head. THIS MEANS; That .45 APC is MUCH more quiet when fired with a suppressor.
All I've ever owned. Ruger SR1911 currently, it replaced a Colt 1991A1(it was cheap and it showed in it's performance). Pretty obvious in this video their running heavy practice ball rounds with low powder loads with those kind of low fps measurements. Run a 200gr FMJ with a 9.5gr load and watch that fps jump well over 1000. :)
.45 has more "knockdown" to it, why I like it, but 9mm has more rounds per mag, reason I prefer it overall. Why trust 1 bullet? fire 2 if someone is proving to be a life threat, have enough to fire 2 for each instance of that threat.
SumGuy NamedJamie the only issue with over/under charging a round, it can stress the brass in different ways. Too much powder and it can go off like a small bomb and damage the breach and rifling. Too little and you end up with a squib round
Christopher McWhinney yeah obviously regulations would have to be set up for maximum limits on different rounds. Like a division for each type of round or different classes and even open classes for completely custom bullets. Some sort of simultaneous firing device would have to be made so all rounds fired at the same time and such
Fascinating - when you speed the footage down, it's easy to tell the difference, but when you play the footage at normal speed, they all seem to hit at the same instant!
840 feet/s is still 256 m/s, or about twice as fast as the fastest production car in the world. That slow bullet is bloody fast, it's the Berret that's fighter jet on afterburner crazy.
Im a firearm expert/ enthusiast.. This was fugging awesome. One of my favorite videos... 800-900 feet per second tops for the 45. Vs 9mm probably 1100 or so. The ak probably 2300-2400 fps and the 416, maybe 3100,3200.... Awesome visual representation of pistol vs intermediate rifle and high powered rifle For some comparison the 556 NATO m193 is a 55 grain projectile travelling 3200ish fps with a muzzle energy around 1290 ft lbs. Vs the 416 barrett pushing a 398 grain bullet moving the same speed but achieving energy around 8,730 ft lbs.. The 416 barret is a monster
Great video. Here is another idea. A tumbling bullet in slow mo. Franklin Armory makes a gun which doesn't have rifling but is chambered for rifle ammunition. It is named the Reformation. You can expect bullets from that gun to tumble. Worn out guns could do the same thing. In searching for videos like that I found ammunition designed to tumble when it hits the target. It would be fun to watch that tumble in clear gellitan. It is from Fort Scott Munitions.
the round is still more important. but since its not a gun channel we cant expect much more although id love to see a battle rifle, armalite rifle, 22 long, and 38 special or 357 magnum in this same comparison
+Al Brautigam ignore this chap he probably has never fired a gun in his life. A keyboard warrior at most. Just wants attention by typing some cool technical mumbo jumbo. Equal barrel lengths are totally irrelevant here. Moving on.
i’ve also heard people call it “.30 Russian Short” among other things. the “short” probably comes from basically being an intermediate version of the old russian 7.62x54mmR, which it might have been derived from.
That's part of what makes .45 such a fun round. When you shoot it 10 yards (~9 m) or farther in sunlight, you can see the glint of the bullet as it travels downrange.
There was a joke about a military cadet learning about guns and how fast the bullet travels. "That doesn't seem very fast." he commented. "We've never found anyone that can outrun it," replied the officer.
So what would actually happen if hypotheticaly you stand on top the plane while it flies and shoot a .45 forward? Would you shoot yourself in the face? Would the gun explode?
no real suppressors can be quite loud which is why they are called suppressors and not silencers. video game/ movie "silencers" give many people a false impression
Well Gavin lives in Texas so he was already in the states, and the reason they're in California is probably because it's a RUclips show and that's where the production company is situated.

When it comes to firearms, "lethality" is determined by the person wielding the weapon.
SgtTeddybear59 Usually slower means more powerful
God Of War Ares according to physics, that is incorrect.
It would be Nice if i knew the speed of the bullet in m/s
Meters or miles?
Have you heard of math or google?
Yeah, the smart people system.
Jonathan have you ever heard of IS?😅
I’m too lazy to look it up, but it’s just tips for next
Slow mo guys : racing bullets with a slowmo camera with 30000 fps
Me : watching the video in 144p
*Guys wait up!*
Hassan DM *waits*
you guys should shoot a bullet at a slow mo camera with bulletproof glass in front.
they literally did, using a mirror
Oh my gosh yes
I keep clicking on this thinking it's part of GMM.
Im always pleasantly surprised
What a beautiful sight.
Nothing like the sound, feel & smell of a discharged firearm!
*You guys did an amazing job*
Great Video, finally something interesting in slow motion, not just "look, something getting destroyed at a 1000fps"
Ninjasheep it actually was about " look a watermelone got destroyed at 1000 fps
well ok, but i think the watermelon is secondary here.
Gönndir Hartmann It was 100,000, but you know, only off by a factor of 100
I need to see a race between five .45's
All lined up one over the other fired at the same time like a bullet drag race
Just give each of them a slightly different barrel length to handicap them :)
ArtisanTony could also change the powder in the brass. Undercharge and overcharge the rounds
Christopher McWhinney exactly, have different teams bringing their own custom loads and so on.
Some sort of simultaneous firing device would have to be made so all rounds fired at the same time and such
Showing them together all starting at the same time is very cool.
Never though Id one day think “wow, that bullet is so slow, they should speed up the video a bit”
Fascinating - when you speed the footage down, it's easy to tell the difference, but when you play the footage at normal speed, they all seem to hit at the same instant!
yeah, cause bullets are incomprehensibly fast
840 feet/s is still 256 m/s, or about twice as fast as the fastest production car in the world.
That slow bullet is bloody fast, it's the Berret that's fighter jet on afterburner crazy.
@@Evolcun the only reason you wrote this reply is to say the word "incomprehensibly"
@@Altro7HD no, I did it to explain to the commenter how fast bullets are.
@@Evolcun No no no. Don't try to hide from the truth.
You did it just to show off that you know what the word "incomprehensibly" means.
Im a firearm expert/ enthusiast.. This was fugging awesome. One of my favorite videos... 800-900 feet per second tops for the 45. Vs 9mm probably 1100 or so. The ak probably 2300-2400 fps and the 416, maybe 3100,3200....
Awesome visual representation of pistol vs intermediate rifle and high powered rifle
For some comparison the 556 NATO m193 is a 55 grain projectile travelling 3200ish fps with a muzzle energy around 1290 ft lbs.
Every time the video starts I understand "hi Im gav and Im done" 😂
Although not simple, would be very cool to see a Minigun/Gatling Gun in slow motion!!
Forgotten Weapons has done it.
GAU8
they did something similar look up slo mo guys proppeller
Otavio+ It would be great if it was the hand cranked one!
Super 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Super. Hot.
That side by side was amazing. Nice one boys!
What wouldve been better is if they couldve fired different calibers out of similar length barrels, since barrel length effects velocity
They fired them from typical barrel lengths for the caliber.
the round is still more important. but since its not a gun channel we cant expect much more although id love to see a battle rifle, armalite rifle, 22 long, and 38 special or 357 magnum in this same comparison
Good comment. Least scientific reviews, but in fairness excellent footage.
+Al Brautigam ignore this chap he probably has never fired a gun in his life. A keyboard warrior at most. Just wants attention by typing some cool technical mumbo jumbo. Equal barrel lengths are totally irrelevant here. Moving on.
Those rounds are optimized for different barrel lengths

I saw the two enthusiastic guys in lab coats and expected one of those kids science shows. Then I saw the .50
.416
You actually should have shown him throwing a rock
Awesome video. I would have loved to see how the 50 caliber would do against the rest of these.
Come on Gav, you need to get over your fear of guns, and driving, and all that other fun stuff. :-) You can do it! :-)
Maybe one day they will drop.
one of the most satisfying videos ever seen, also made me laugh cheers
Crazy how if you were shot in the head by the 50 cal, you'd be dead before you had the chance to hear the gunshot
That goes for just about any rifle.
@@LongWalker730 unless its a subsonic round
great information gents

Mrgunsngear Channel just when I thought I found a video you haven’t inhabited...
It’s crazy how RUclips selectively enforces their policies.
Lol you show up everywhere
0:41 When my friends introduce me...
"It looks fa-uh."
"It is fa-uh."
They get really British sometimes.
I am so glad that you guys are doing the SERIOUS SCIENCE 😎
"7.62 short" never heard it called that but it is true between 39 and 51, 7.62x39 being the short and 7.62x51 is a 308 pretty much
probably a British thing
i’ve also heard people call it “.30 Russian Short” among other things. the “short” probably comes from basically being an intermediate version of the old russian 7.62x54mmR, which it might have been derived from.
Part 2 of bullet racing please!
Feet per second = FPS... That's not confusing at all in a slow-mo video... x)
So what's that in meter per second again? (for us non-americans) ;)
Yep, imperial system is disgusting
www.metric-conversions.org/speed/feet-per-second-to-meters-per-second.htm
3300ft/s= 1005.840m/s ....so the Barret .416 has a muzzle velocity of approximately 1,000 meters per second. :)
divide the FPS by 3.1 ....
3.28*
That's part of what makes .45 such a fun round. When you shoot it 10 yards (~9 m) or farther in sunlight, you can see the glint of the bullet as it travels downrange.
great. and the enemy will outrun or dodge it :)
phineas and ferb
litterally
Wow, I see it now. Lol
If they were both British
The ak's damage does more of a break apart effect while the berrett disintegrated the melon
Team up with Demolition Ranch!
Viktor Reznov haha Dr Matt has a whole bunch of firearms that would be fun to see in a slowmo race
Yes
Barret is the greatest from distance 😂😂😂
A Boeing 727 flies faster than the .45!
There was a joke about a military cadet learning about guns and how fast the bullet travels.
"That doesn't seem very fast." he commented.
"We've never found anyone that can outrun it," replied the officer.
Yeah you can see the 45 auto fly downrange if you've got more than 25-30 yards of space
Captain Lag 😹
If you shot one out the back, the bullet would travel backwards in the direction the plane was flying
So what would actually happen if hypotheticaly you stand on top the plane while it flies and shoot a .45 forward? Would you shoot yourself in the face? Would the gun explode?
Taofledermaus, anything to add?
They shot a faster round in one of their recent videos.
So the .45 is actually slower than the speed of sound?
McPlayHD yup. Makes it great for suppressors
Subsonic, still lethal, but makes almost no sound when used with suppressor
Mattron you’d only hear the impact and a very small sound from the shot, the crack is non existent
Mattron so if you shoot a 5.56mm with a suppressor it is not totally silent?
no real suppressors can be quite loud which is why they are called suppressors and not silencers. video game/ movie "silencers" give many people a false impression
I'm not at all surprised by any of this. It's just really neat to see.
00:55 As Jamie would say, "there's your problem. "
Why come all the way to the states to play with guns and end up in California? lol
It's like going to Austria for coral reef diving
Well Gavin lives in Texas so he was already in the states, and the reason they're in California is probably because it's a RUclips show and that's where the production company is situated.
Wruce Bayne Yeah youre probably correct. It was done for convenience. But a 3 hr drive east and you can shoot .50bmg. (Full auto if you have registered nfa stuff) supressors, and tons of goodies CA denies the peasants.
@@col.cottonhill6655 I'm surprised RUclips allowed anything with guns at all on an originals show. Even more surprised that they didn't force Gav and Dan to denounce gun violence.
for some reason i thought the .45 isn't ever gonna reach the watermelon lol
3OGLAH it is a heavy, slow round. Browning develop for WWII
45acp was developed in 1905.

Wait... what? RUclips funding gun videos? With ad? Can’t be true!
I'm not getting an ad on it.
naXter its because this is an offical show that advertisers know theyre ok with being """"""""associated"""""""" with (the idiots either dont know or dont care that unless its a targeted ad people wont associate ads with videos or shows.)
If you use the imperial system, attest include the metric equivalent so I don't have to convert it manually
Ɨ Λɱ ΞÐǤƳ could've converted it by the time you typed this comment showing how lazy you are
iDeagles yes because criticism to improve the show is definitely bring lazy. Using the system that over 90% of the country's of the world use would be stupid anyway
You could literally type "X imperial units converted to X Metric units" into the web address bar and google will find it for you. this is not an issue.
I want to see more stuff like this. Great comparison video and would be cool to expand on it more.
