Roy Bittan plays piano on this. He's been a member of the E Street Band since 1974. If you listen for his playing in the mix and focus on it you might be able to hear how it gives the song a touch of Springsteen feel in the middle passages. Robert Fripp plays guitar on the track. He is a founding member of King Crimson and has played on so many classic albums over the decades there are too many to list. His wife, Toyah Wilcox, set up a RUclips channel sixteen years ago, but during the pandemic she regularly posted clips of the two of them playing music together and putzing around the house and such. I watched a few of them. They're a hoot. As a matter of fact, she posted another clip three days ago. Anyway, for a taste of King Crimson from around the time Bowie released Scary Monsters, check out the song "Elephant Talk".

Ashes To Ashes and Fashion were the hit singles from this album. But ist has so many other great songs like the title song, Teenage Wildlife, Scream Like A Baby or Because You're Young. In my opinion all of them are even better than the one you just listened to.

A favorite song on a tremendous album. The song to me is about people with bad advice telling a creative, but alienated person how to live best even though the advisce givers are superficial and materialistic.
