You, Nicole are such a hard worker. I don't know how you do it? I get great joy from watching your antics and excitement on every video. I wish you did more, but I realize all the time you spend with other things! You Bless me, and I hope God Blesses you and your growing family.
I can’t get over how lush and healthy your plants are in the little soil blocks. You are my seedling goals.
Imagining the number and volume of blooms coming from these trays is blowing my mind!!!! Incredible work!!!
Let’s hope so!
I love watching your videos. You have perfected the green thumb.
Hahaha I found hairy balls at a seedling sale And bought them just so I could point them out to people in my pollinator garden lol
That segment made me laugh out loud. 🤣
Omg Nicole sooo many seedlings , I don’t know how you have enough time to plant all those , do you have family help or do you employe people , you work so hard , no wonder your yawning ,I’m yawning just thinking about , my small amount of seedlings lol, can’t wait to see what you are doing with all your flowers this year sooo many varieties xx
Enjoy watching your videos and I learn a lot from you. I am a first year fresh cut flower farmer this year. Not new to gardening and growing. You are hilarious. Was sipping coffee right when you were showing the flower "hairy balls." Almost spit it out.
Hi Tracy, we are too, learning lots from Nicole, you are welcome to connect with us. I’m going to try doing the flower bar here, hope it works!🙏 best of luck with your venture, where are you based? Jo x
my tomatoes are blooming 🙆, there is a month left until I can plant them outside 😲
It's always a better day when I can watch one of your episodes, thanks for everything you do.
@@annijohnson6210 thanks Anni 😘 it's not the flowers that worry me, it's the size and space in the windows
I know the feeling. I have strawberries from seed that really need to get planted but I am at least two maybe more weeks before they can go out. We just out 4 more inches of snow:/
@@beson5663 You will get stronger fruiting down the road if you pinch the early blooms!
@@curiouscat3384 thanks for the advice, i will do so.
The waiting to plant is hard! I need all my patience!
Nicole, you little overachiever! Go get ‘em girl! I have room envy over your grow room, but I also have land envy over the space you have to plant in, but I’ve got enough for me. Mid morning naps are good medicine!
You are going to have such a beautiful season!!
I hope so!
I can't even imagine how much work you are doing and will be doing with all of those flowers, but I can hardly wait to see them in bouquets! Amazing!
Your videos have helped me stayed motivated! I hate planting, but I have to keep going!!!
I love how you add the inset pictures of the mature plants as you show the seedlings! So neat!
Can you do a snap dragon video? When to pinch them? How tall they should be to pinch? When to plant them out?
...and for celosia too?!??!
This is so helpful to see the seedling. I direct sowed a lot of my seeds this year that I've never grown and had no clue what they looked like.
Glad it was helpful!
You are hilarious as always 😂 I just wanted to thank you for showing these. Especially the mahogany splendor hibiscus, mine are growing pretty slowly so it's nice to see where yours are at ☺️
Thanks for the tour. It really helps out us newbies to see the progress of the 🌱.
Love so many plants!!! I don't know how you keep up! I just have one set of shelves and I get overwhelmed.
Oh, by the way, there is another flower called 'hairy balls'. Its in the allium family, and I think they are so pretty and quirky. Look them up ! I'm going to try them next year.
Why are people afraid to say that name? Laura at Garden Answer also avoids using that name.
Hairy Balls Hairy Balls Hairy Balls
They look great for arrangements.
Our garden center sold those last year. It was entertaining to watch the reaction of people when they read the labels that said 'hairy balls'
I want to grow it just so I can say hairy balls
@@Edu_Kate We grow an Amaranth gangeticus. It would go well with the Hairy Balls. hahah!!
I’ve struggled with germination and growth in the lime basil and so has one of the other channels I watch. I keep trying through!
Wow sooo amazing!!!!💚💐💚💐💚💐💚💐💚💐
Thanks!
Can you do a video when you pinch and root the tops of the dahlias? pretty please?
You are so much fun to watch! 🥰
Thank you!
When things settle down for you it would be so helpful to know more details about how you start seeds. Soil, soil blocking, fertilizer schedule, etc. In short all of your trade secrets. Lol. Everything looks so healthy. Good luck with your upcoming season. It should be spectacular.
Thanks!
Still so jealous! Just one rack please lol. It all looks great as usual. So excited for the transplanting and the results!
Truly amazing the variety, quantity and quality of plants you're growing there. You should feel very proud! You go!!!
Okay, I was just watching the You Can't Eat The Grass channel and you were on there. I have to say, I live closeby and have never heard of you!! How exciting...I LOVE flowers! I hope to stop over someday!
That is awesome! Hi Tracy!
You are working so hard! Well done ❤️🌱
Your seedlings looks amazing.
Thank you!
Germination royalty, that’s what you are. I’m in awe and also kicking myself.
Well Nicole you have succeeded in giving me the fever to start a flower farm. I binged watched your videos all winter. You may not remember, but I had messaged you a while back regarding netting for my dahlias which you did reply back with an answer, thank you. I told you then I was thinking about trying to flower farm. I am definitely on a much smaller scale than you are but if all goes well this year, I will expand next year, Lord's willing. I am in north central Arkansas and do not know of any flower farms in our state although there may be some. Your plants look great. Mine look pretty good but we are having so much rain plus our temps have been colder than usual so it has been hard to get things planted. I am doing lilies, glads, sunflowers, zinnias, snapdragons, and at least 15 to 20 kinds of filler flowers. Not sure if my Dahlias will be for sale. I have around 200 of mixed varieties. You are a great inspiration and I have learned much from watching your videos as well as being entertained by you. Wishing you a very successful year of flower farming.
Amazingly well organised setup this year !
I can't wait to see all the bouquets! I think its therapy and everyone needs to do it!
Your orange gomphrena had great germination compared to mine, I soaked the Baker creek seeds and used heat mats and sifted seed starting mix. 3 germinated, now I only have 1 plant that is growing.
Mine have taken 2 weeks and im just now seeing them sprouting. I had the baker creek mix.
Ery'thang looks great, Nicole!! 💚 Can't wait to start in earnest next year!
Ooh so excited I just direct sowed some zinnias in salmon, coral and pink! I direct sowed last year and had blooms till fall. I also direct sowed some straw flower for the first time. We shall see how they do. I had 12 pink glads I planted in four groups of 3 each which will add some height and color in front of my sunflowers which have all sprouted in the garden! So excited to see your blooms this year!!!! I look for your videos every day!
I just wanted to thank you for your channel/videos. While I'm not planting large-scale, just personal garden around the house..thanks to you, I have successfully planted my dahlia, canna, and gladiolus bulbs!! I have unsuccessful planted these in the past! Also, was able to plant some roseform begonias, which are new to me, in a part of my garden that stays shaded 3/4 of the day! I was searching to see if you had a video on them, crossing fingers I did well, and maybe you'll plant some next year! 🙌💖🤗🌺
So glad to hear! Happy growing!
@@FlowerHillFarm thank you!! 💖💖💖🤗🤗🤗
I can't tell you how helpful your seedling updates are, they provide me with a great benchmark on how my own seedlings are doing. I planted 24 Dahlia seeds from Floret...have 15 plants in 4" pots ready to be planted...in my very small garden, the only question is where? It's kinda a crap shoot, because I don't know what they are, how tall, what color...but will be a fun surprise. Everything looks amazing...can't wait for the outside tour.
Surprises are the best.
Holy smokes that's a lot of seedlings!! I only allowed myself to start two 72 cell trays! I also had poor germination on my Sultane mix and they were new seeds I bought this year. I can't wait to see how your bouquets will look this year!
Great looking plants! Good job Nicole!
You are wonderful and thank you for all that you do....ARE you still going to dig your well deeper this year
Hi Nicole!! absolutely LOVE your videos! just wondering if you could at all teach us more about dahlias from seed? when to pinch? when to allow to flower for the first time? how to grow in containers? what to do if you dont have to overwinter your tubers and can grow year round etc.? I've tried to find other videos but none of them are very informative past sowing the seeds... thank you soooo much!!
Wow, what great results. I think I need to fertilize my starts after seeing yours. I am also going to return to using soil blocks again. Harry Balls is a really good milk weed plant that attracts Monarch butterflies. Careful, it self seeds like crazy if you left the “balls” open up. It also gets 5-6 feet tall.
Oh boy!
Thanks Nicole, learn so much through watching you and appreciating the effort it would take to add the photos in as well. Excited to see these all grow into beautiful flowers. 😃🤞🏻🌸
you're so amazing and well organized!
Thank you so much!!
Your seedlings are beautiful! I’m going to try soil blocking.
Your seedlings 🌱 look so healthy 💪🏼! You are going to have an amazing season. I am so excited 🤩 for you!
I know I've said it before...you are my kind of people!💗💗💗btw, move got 10 Straw Flower plants out of 250 new seeds. Same dealer. The snowman Zinnia plate looks like brownies.😂😂 Thank you for consistent, creative, and colorful content! Piece and eat all the sweets!
I love they they germinated so well in your recycled containers, very encouraging. I thought about doing that this year but decided against it since I hadn’t any experience with it, thank you. Very encouraged.
I love your background music.
I do too. It's so relaxing and pleasant.
Thanks for the tour - love seeing seedlings
Amazing content!! beautiful seedlings!! how many action packed hours does your day have. respect your zeal
You're amazing! You do so much and know so much! Just an expanded reason for your viewers for planting tomatoes super deep. The indeterminate varieties are actually vines - so every leaf node has potential to put out roots, and when you have well-rooted tall "seedlings" like that, it is beneficial to bury them deep to encourage a much larger root system, therefore stronger and healthier :)
Girl I had given up on my buplereurum because for 3 weeks nothing! I finally took the tray off my shelf and shunned her to darkness. 2 weeks later I go to move it out and what!?!? I had some germination. Very leggy germination but germination.
Agreed my snaps germinate great! Watching these videos are so hard. You make me want to go buy more seeds when I'm already running out of room on my farm! I had to find space for 250 Lilies that came in I forgot I had ordered. 😅
There’s still hope!
I love your channel and you make me want to plant ALL the flowers. :) Thanks for sharing your fun personality, and gorgeous plants, with us
Why my seedlings don’t look as healthy as yours😭 I’m not giving up though. Will hold on to them til I can replant them outside 😍
Same here...nicole is such a pro gardener
Yah some of mine are growing slow too.i wonder if its to cool in my grow room.
Mine are small as well compared to Nicole's. There are so many variables...light, temp, soil/medium, fertilizer....
@@michelleodell1236 yes I think light is the one for me. Mine are pretty leggy but still finger cross they will do better when I transfer them outside.
@@freshpetals_ i have the same problem too leggy. Let’s just hope they will get better outside 🤞🏻
I had trouble germinating Eden brothers strawflowers - one mix only produced 3 plants but the other had a gazillion!
Oh my gosh I love your videos can’t wait to see all the color💗
White marigold---I think I want to try this one...
The local small nursery had 298 tomato plants last year and sold out fast.
I started Ox Heart tomatoes from seed mid January 2021. Put them in the ground three weeks ago. Zone 7b.
Am trying dahlias from seed. They are picking up as it gets warmer. They got planted out a few weeks ago as well.
Thank you. You are very knowledgeable. Always looking forward to your next video. There was not any entertainment at the end, but you have to take a break.
Thanks!
Wahoooo! Spring has sprung
Oh my God everything looks amazing Nicole! This video is absolutely convinced me that I need to go to soil blocking. Everything that I have started under lights is tall and spindly and just is not happy. The only thing that looks really great on my foxglove seedlings right now. I’m so happy that you showed your Dara as I’m trying to grow Orlaya and was so concerned out strappy they were looking. I have a feeling I’ll be living vicariously through you as we move into the peak of our growing season. Not giving myself too much trouble as this is my first year trying from home. Now to convince my husband to let me put a heater in my little greenhouse so that I can get the same result I get at work🌱♥️🌱
Hi Nicole. Love your enthusiasm!!When did you start the aster?
Shouldn’t have watched till the end - you made me yawn! 😂🤣 Seriously girl, I don’t know where you get the energy! Use it while you can because it doesn’t last forever, (said the voice of experience). Love, love, love your videos. I’m inspired to try some things I’ve never tried before which is pretty much everything, LOL! 💚🌿🌸
I overdid it in the garden yesterday. Today, my body is saying, "Unh uh." Maybe I should just haul my debris to the municipal yard waste place. It's looking pretty messy what with all the weeding I've been doing.
I have many of the same plants started, but mine are like 1 to 100 of yours ...LOL. Super enjoyed the tour and can't wait to see the bouquets you will be creating also 💚🌿🌻
I found if you can’t dig that deep for your tomatoes, you can burry them on their sides with heads up and it serves the same purpose! 💚🌺🌼🌸
Yes!
I was a tomato failure for my first try whop whop :(. Killed all 25 plants, leaves all curled, they were HUGE and constantly thirsty, I did the fish fert Friday thang. 🤦🏻♀️ I just think they got way too big for the Solo cups. I dunno. Looks like I'm buying starts. Afraid everything else will start dieing because our weather is still too cold to start planting out. I think all these grey wet days are getting the better of me. *Sigh
Watch out for morning glory! It runs wild here in Idaho and you can’t EVER get rid of it. It chokes out plants and steals nutrients. It is pretty and it’s a great ground cover just be careful!
We do have a wild morning glory that has the same issues here. This cultivar is a bit different. I’ve grown it for years without it coming back- the wild one however pops up everywhere!
The price for LED grow light strips are comparable to the daylight shop lights. Both types work for growing seedlings 🌱
Seedling envy right now.
You are kicking butt. This video is making me feel like a failure. Ugh. Did you fertilize those seedlings? They look so good.
Nicole uses the Neptune Harvest liquid fish emulsion for fertilizer once per week.
@@gabriellakadar I wonder what I could use that doesn't come from animal sources?
@gabriella kadar You could use a weed tea fertilizer - easy to make, easy to get ideas from the web (google to the rescue 🙂).
@@mavraparastino1869 mm smells good. not. Fermented nettles will clear out your nose hairs.
@@terireddingsutton I believe kelp meal is available in a liquid form of fertilizer. Or it may be labeled as seaweed instead.
I grew Cardinal Basil 2 years ago and it was beautiful but smelled terrible!! I'm growing it again this year - please give us an update when you harvest - mine smelled like cat pee!
Oh boy!
I had the same problem with straw flower!!! I got Johnny and and had like 2 out of 50... and they were not old seeds
Such a bummer!
I enjoy your videos so much!
I forget you have other jobs besides farming. Gurl, you are one busy lady.
I read an article last night that said flowers will be hard to come by this year, especially for weddings. Um, they don't know about you and your other flower friends. What shortage?
Seeing your success growing from seeds makes me think I could do this. Not farming, but just to have enough for a small cutting garden for my own use. But how does one decide what to plant. You have acreage that you don't have to be selective. I am starting lilies from bulbs (corms?) and that's fun seeing them develop. So much more affordable than purchasing one plant from garden centers.
Sleeping among the peonies sounds so delightful. My peonies are looking awesome this year. I haven't even gotten around to fertilizing some of them yet.
I'm also in zone 4b and was weeding over the weekend. Some ladies passing by on a dog walk stopped to compliment my gardens (Oy! Don't look at the mess to the right) and they thought it was too early to garden. Really?! I feel I'm far behind because I watch gardeners from warmer zones. Gotta get those weeds before they take over. I love the uniqueness of amaranth, but worry it would self-seed everywhere like the weed version I get in my garden.
Sorry to take up your time with such a lengthy comment. It's already been established, you are BUSY!
I feel like a starving woman at a buffet looking at all your plants. Definitely will grow those
poppies next year. I've got Oriental ones that I grew from seed last year and they are looking
fantastic. I'm glad you got the 'matoes sorted and they have recovered.
I put basil seedlings into either 4 inch by 6 inch deep square pots or a 32 plug tray.
The ones in the 32 were NOT happy. They are now in Solo cups. Don't know what the
deal is with the 4 inch deep plug trays. I think I need to invest in a soil blocker.
My tomatoes are also out of control and it's not time yet.....the horror!
I have an important question:
Do you get Squash Vine Borers? I'm in Toronto and they descended on us for the first time
last year and they are brutal. If you get them what do you do about them? I'm growing
parthenocarpic cucumbers because they don't need pollinating and I'll keep them under netting to keep
the Cucumber beetles, Squash bugs, and Vine Borers off them. Cucumbers have many enemies!
Another less important question:
I planted a block of Snappies 4 inches apart. The ones inside the square are standing up.
The outer ones are sprawling. What should I do? I was thinking of putting in a bunch more
and maybe the sprawly fellas will rethink their orientation. Should I pinch them short and
maybe they'll grow upwards?
Sorry for many questions.
So jealous looking at all of your beautiful tomato plants! mine got wiped out due to some crazy gnats I even put down the yellow sticky sheets with no luck 😭
Soak your seeding mix with boiling water. It helps.
Been growing those blue centered African daisies. They are really leggy and tall but so pretty! I also left them in the plug trays too long. I love them! Got the seeds from Baker Creek too. Please give us an update on the gomphrena when you harvest. I'm planning to plant them next spring and want to see how big and flowy they get. (small yard space ) Thanks! Love how you love your plants! I talk to mine all the time.
I have grass growing in my garden beans! I was like what the thrip?? 🤣
I think the smell of the cinnamon basil is like anise(black licorice).
I enjoyed seeing Nicole plant her face in all the trays to take in their fragrance.
Mine is growing like 10x's as a fast as other varieties. And my lime basil has been a real disappointment I've had to restart them 3 times.
Your plants looks great and love your presentation! I see plenty of potting up and transplanting in your near future. Some of the seeds I bought are growing odd plants. I purchased Basket of Gold Alyssum seeds and what is growing is Nightshade! Also my Corona Snapdragon mix seeds all germinated but they are definitely not snapdragons (many tall stems with umbrellas of pointed starburst leaves). Even Plantfinder can't identify! Oh well, hope they will be a nice surprise.
What did you expect with a name like that? Hahha
@@BramptonGardener ??
@@sherry2836 Corona hahhahah
@@BramptonGardener Maybe I'm growing a vaccine
@@sherry2836 good luck then hahaahha.
I know that this will sound disgusting but.... I saw this on another garden channel AND I have done it so I know that it works. If you glob a bunch of spit...yes, I said spit as in saliva, on those seed husks that are stuck, it usually works to loosen them. They said you can use water but that the enzymes in saliva work faster. If the husk doesn't come off fast enough, you lose the plant. I hate to lose plants😤
Wait, where are the rest of the dahlias?
And em who the hell gave you thumbs down on this video? I impatiently wait for your next video. I wanna see peonies and be more jealous of you
The other dahlias are tubers! Most are going straight into the ground 💐
I'm glad your morning glory are doing good! Did you like the type of peas I sent? I wasn't sure if those were the kind you liked eating fresh or not. I think the Cinnamon Basil has a black licorice hint to it, but better... I dont like black licorice but I LOVE the smell of that Basil. I have 4 beautiful Lemon Scented Gum Eucalyptus. They're almost a foot tall, but three are doing more bushing than vertical growth. I had 4 Baby Blue Eucalyptus doing good, & then all of 3 sudden them, their leaves started to get crispy & they died! 🤷♀️ I have no clue what happened! I had that bumpy bubble stuff on my tomatoes! Were super humid in southern Indiana so that's so nice to know! Never heard of that before! I thought it was mosaic virus because of that, & curly leaves... ( which it still may have been, but in some they only had the bubbling) I am sooooo doing soil blocks next year! Jist the simple fact of not having to pull the seedlings out of trays I think is going to be a huge benefit! It takes me forever to pop them out (depending on cell size) unless I let them dry out, & sometimes I water because I don't think n I'm going to be able to plant that day, then my 2 year old takes a 2 hour nap & in like "let's plant" & then I get 6 things planted from trying not to rip the roots! 😩 🤣
I’ve never had those peas before! I have them started in the greenhouse outside - I’m excited about them!
@@FlowerHillFarm yay!
Hi Nicole. Jodie here from NJ (zone 7b). Love your videos and humor!! I'm starting 4 new seeds this year that need light for germination. Here's my problem: everything is set up in the basement where there is minimal daylight. :( I suppose I can place them under grow lights - maybe a foot or so below; or I can put them upstairs close to an East-facing window, but without heat mats. What would you do? Any suggestions are welcome!!
What a great germination rate. How do you water these plug trays. Also mu cosmos gave a good germination and are so tall that the stem is breaking. I have planted them in ground wondering if I was supposed to pinch them. If so can I do it after transplanting. Thanks
I am not getting great germination my fox glove this year. Some of the seed is from last years plants and some I bought......a few years ago. I guess it's time for new seed.
Hey Nicole! Is Flamingo Feather celosia a single cut stem? Mine started blooming in their plug trays at 3" tall. Super cute but.. wondering whether I should pinch or pitch them and start over. My strawflowers were a dud too, same old seed. Thanks for the update video!
I’d love to see you repot a tray that has 88/90 germination. I have no idea how you can take them apart. Please. I always plant seeds too thick.
Most things I grow are in individual soil blocks so the roots are contained to each small cell. I plant them straight into the ground from the block.
Sincere question - why don't you just start them in the 2" soil blocks? It would save you a lot of work, yes?
Space saving on the heat mat. Valuable real estate
Great plants & info! I wish you included when the plants were started so I could see days or months of growth! Soil blocks are on my list for 2021! Do you water tray or tops of plants?
Look at her tape tags. The start date is written on there.
I want to try soil blocks now seeing Nicole's success.
Oh I have one of those thickly sown snapdragon trays too. I had bought the most beautiful fuchsia colored ones, in a tray of about 6 plants, and saved the seeds. I don't know what they were called. So now how do I get them into the ground or pots? Just break them into little clumps or should I try to separate them individually first?
How did the mums do? I'm also in zone 5 and thought our season was too short.
Can you talk about spritzing seedlings? Why?
My boxer Ruby says Hi to boxer Blooper. I am really good at helping mom in the garden how about you!? I like to roll in the dirt then come inside...mom does it too so it must be ok!
Do you have recommendations on where to buy pots in bulk for seedling sale?
I wonder why do you start dara, scabiose, bupleurum so late, and basil so early? I must say though your eucaliptus looks fantastic! I ve sown mine when you ve sown your first, bit earlier even, and its half size of yours)) Also they do grow differently, i had one that is more green then others, one that thinks hes a stick, one that thinks he's a ball. Weird))
Much of the basil is for my seedling sale, not my farm!
you know you like green/white flowers and you are growing annual asters from seed...check out The Hulk
Love your English accent lol
