  • Here's a quick look at the Pilot Custom 74. This pen has proven itself to be Brian's #1 go-to daily writer. It’s an attractive pen, but what draws him to it the most is how beautifully it writes. See all the pen's highlights in this overview video.

    Another great video and Brian's go to fountain pen. I love it. One of these days I shall get one, its inevitable, I love my Pilots. The problem is there are so many interesting and great fountain pens I want to buy. On second thought, that is definitely NOT a problem. Where to start...
    Have a great 4th of July to everyone at Team Goulet!

    I adore my Custom 74. I got a clear with a broad nib, and it's easily one of the best writers in my collection. It's one of my "office pens" that tends to stay in my going-to-work rotation, along with my Lamy 2000 and my Pilot Vanishing Point.

    I was wondering if the Custom 74 has some flex to it because a staff at Goulet told me a while back that gold nibs are "springy". I am considering buying this as my first gold nib/semi flex pen. I would've considered buying the Resin Falcon, but it just has a tiny converter that takes just a minuscule amount of ink.

    • @Gouletpens
      @Gouletpens  7 лет назад +5

      The gold nib is soft & springy, but I wouldn't say it's even semi-flex, let alone a flex nib. The Falcon is definitely the way to go if that's what you're looking for in a gold nib. You may get some line variation from the 74, but nothing drastic & the pressure needed could be dangerous to the tines. - Colin

    I would really appreciate if you could do a comparison between the different pilot customs and pilot custom heritage, or answer the question in the comments, the question is: which is the most comfartable and preferred pen of all in the pilot custom like?

    came here to check again just how wet the custom 74 in this video was. thats a ton of ink compared to when my custom 74 came out of the box. mine was a fine nib tho. but still, a big difference, had to open up the tines with a shim. kon-peki was almost unusable with how light it was looking because the pen was so dry, i have a very light hand when writing though, that might've been the difference. goes to show you 2 people using the same pen can have vastly different results. oh well. its better now.

    it is a good pen as everyone can buy it and i compared it to the mont blanc miesterstuck 144,145,146 and 149 but this pen has a durable body, 14karat gold nib which has pilot 5no.nib size and comes in everyone`s buget.

    Is there a version of Custom 74 that has an italic/stub nib or a true flex nib? ? How much line variation is there with the standard gold nib?

    • @Gouletpens
      @Gouletpens  9 лет назад

      Eleanor Cooper Unfortunately we don't have one with an italic nib. The gold nib is pretty springy, but you are not going to get flex writing out of it. -Margaret

      Eleanor Cooper Pilot do have soft fine and soft medium in their Custom 74s which provide more flex than the usual fine and medium (this is my own opinion, I have a medium and a soft medium).

    • @eleanorcooper5574
      @eleanorcooper5574 9 лет назад

      Eleanor Cooper Thanks Goulet and Nick. Pilot Falcon is a superb flexpen but I prefer the shape and feel of Custom 74, so I just wish Pliot could see the potential of fitting out the Custom 74 with italic and Falcon nibs..

      Yes, the Custom 74 can use the proprietary Namiki cartridges (www.gouletpens.com/pilot-ink-cartridges/c/178) - Colin

    Actually the 74 is avaliable only in black and clear in Japan.

    • @MayaGoodeAuthor
      @MayaGoodeAuthor 9 лет назад +1

      Pinglei He Actually they have several colors in Japan including solid green, red and blue. That said, I don't know if those are special editions in some way. I just ordered a purple limited edition with sparkles version (also available in sparkly green) that I can't wait to get here. It was confusing because I couldn't find any info on it until Azizah emailed Pilot for me. Here's the link Pilot passed her s-manahu.ddo.jp/blog/?cat=15

      ***** I'm not a native japanese speaker but I can understand some kanjis. 限定2015年 means the year of 2015 limited edition. Thanks for the info!

      Pinglei He Yeah, Pilot said the sparkly versions were released in March. I'm not sure if Soumen is the name of a store in Japan that the pens were made for, or if the "custom association" is a special club or miss translation. The page translate add-on in firefox was a huge help. I want to find a green one though... I'm such a girl. You can find the regular solid green, blue and red ones really easy though from Japanese sellers like engeika.

      ***** I did some research on google,and it says that the green and violot colors are exclusive in the U.S.

    • @MayaGoodeAuthor

      Pinglei He All of the transparent colors are US except for clear from what I can find. For some reason the solid colors are Japan only. It's weird.

    is that a sticker on the body of the pen?

    • @Gouletpens
      @Gouletpens  8 лет назад +1

      Yes, almost all Pilot pens come with a similar sticker. It's easily removable and doesn't leave any residue or anything. - Colin

    Does it give some line variation? I want to buy for every day use, but with some line variation.

    • @Gouletpens
      @Gouletpens  6 лет назад

      Ehhh, not a lot of line variation. It is spring, but not a flex nib -Margaret

      Thinking of venturing into line variation; I have a lot of office writing. What would you suggest? And, new year greetings, Margaret!!@@Gouletpens

    • @Gouletpens
      @Gouletpens  6 лет назад +1

      If you want a true flex nib (good for tinkering) then the Noodler's Ahab. The Custom 74 with a little bit of Spring would be good for office writing. It's a super reliable pen. You're just not going to be doing calligraphy with that nib. Hope that helps! -margaret

    For daily writing would this or the 823 be best?

    • @Gouletpens
      @Gouletpens  6 лет назад +2

      The nib performance would be really similar, so I would lean towards the Custom 74 just because it'll be easier to clean. Converters are easy, vacuum fillers can be tricky. - Colin

    Hey ! thanks for the amazing review. Would you recommend the Medium or MiduimFIne nib(Its somewhere in between the fine and the medium nib )? I'll be mainly using it for math, note taking,etc. I prefer the smoother ones. Thanks.
