Ken Susi - Is the AXE FX III good for live?

- After a hiatus from posting, I'm back with a video discussing my years of experience with amps, digital amps, and other gear. I've been using the Axe-fx III on tour for two years and couldn't be happier with it. Watch as I demonstrate how I integrate it into my setup with visual and playing examples. If you're keen on replicating my live tone, now's your opportunity to learn how.
I'm now using the standard and turbo for touring!! Both are great - Развлечения
That 2nd tone is incredible!
All roads lead back to the 5150s iconic tone
Ha ha always😂
Exactly !
Yeah im diggin that direct signal to tha house.. I play through a stealth 3 6L6. I always put a small small low pass, (pultec eq curve) and I cut 4k buzz.
Good move. Honestly, the tone going to the cab is just as good but different
Wild that this is still arguably the best and the tech is several years old
Good stuff for sure
Sounds great keep the demos coming!
Thank you for doing this. Very few people share live presets and applications. I run a similar setup and it works great!
Hey Ken, thx for the vid, pretty cool to see!
Ken !!! Good to see you again !!! Cheers !!! 🤩
Yeah Buddy!
Ken thanks for the deep dive! This is really helpful vs some of these where they gloss over the details. We appreciate that you dig in and get into the weeds with us!
I love sharing the knowledge ❤
Sounds really great! Seems useful to get the stage sound cut through a bit more.
Whats good brother nice to see you uploading again
🎉🎉🎉
sounds really sick Ken!
❤❤❤
Woah mumma! That tone is thicc!! Love it!
❤
Dude your LTD is jaw droppingly gorgeous!!!! Wowwww
Love it so much. ❤🎉
@@TheKensusi Reminds me of the first Richard Z from Rammstein model.
Awesome stuff, Ken, sounds amazing! I don't really do live playing but I like to know what's up, all the same, so I did find this video to be informative/useful. I didn't know that you had a YT channel and now I do 🤘🤘 I'll be checking out the backlog of videos for sure. I'm a metal guitarist, myself, and play what I suppose is Metalcore and some melodic death metal...been a AILD fan since I saw them at Cornerstone 2001 or 2002 (? I can't remember which year it was).... anyway, I was glad to see that you and Nick, have joined the band.
heck yeah buddy!!!
The sound you are getting through the 6505 power and Engl cab sounds amazing Ken! Tight!
Thanks, it's like any power section of a good amp would work.
Killer video dude
❤
Fractal has always been enticing. They were ahead of the market from the first product on.
This was an interesting watch. Really enjoyed your perspective. Cheers!
Stephen(Mercedes husband) 😂
Thanks brother ❤
Were you using this tone with AILD at Hammersonic festival in indonesia? it was amazing, by far the best sounding live band i have ever heard!
100% yes🎉
Shadows was my favorite album
You know whats crazy about the AxeFX? I ran this dual out split setup (FOH + Poweramp to cab) 10 years ago with an AxeFX Ultra :D
The DSP load was around 40% and back then we only had a small car for transportation - I actually ended up with one AxeFX Ultra doing this setup for BOTH guitars in my band. With reverb I was at 95% DSP load but it worked! I had 4 patches (both distorted, both clean, 1 distorted + 1 clean and reverse) and I did the switching with my pedalboard because we didn't even have the space to bring a notebook to send midi commands.
The power of the DSP back then was insane.
Well said🎉
Sounds killer Ken! Miss the weeklys I hope all is well.
Everything has been amazing. Thanks for stopping by
Both patches sound great! Tone matching on the axe is something a lot of people overlook.
Totally❤
It’s essentially similar to doing a QC capture or Kemper profile of a specific sound. The key is to start with a similar amp and have good stems to work with.
Yeaah Ken is awesome👏
❤❤❤
Good to see you post again on here Mr Susi. Thanks for the squeelies haha
More to come!
Sick tone bro. Please make that preset available to buy or something. It’s awesome. I’ve been looking for a live solution for a while. I have a FM9 but I can look for a workaround for the tone matching thing
Just copy my settings❤
@@LordofTheRigsTrue but the tone match is doing a lot to help get it spot on vs. copying the amp settings and adding a cab block or IR. I don’t know what percentage of tone is actually amp vs. cab mathematically, but I’d say speaker makes a lot more of the final tone than the amp does.
I miss you in Unearth dude. It was a sad day when I heard you left.
Seriously, such a step down all around to play for As I Lay Dying
@@matthewfreeman33Not financially it wasn’t.
Unearth absolutely smokes AILD in every way. Just a way sicker band imo.
@guitarfreak2105 after all these years with all the members gone and that lunatic singer they have and all the new metalcore bands that are doing it better, who in their right mind supports that band?
@@jaredt3985 totally agree
I’ve had the helix couple times. Can’t get any tones I like. Having the same problem with the fm3. It’s me not the gear. I just can’t get it. I’m just using it with studio monitors
Missed your videos Ken, to bad you're not making to Portugal on this tour
I just vacationed there. Need to go back soon
@@LordofTheRigs yeah, its a great country, to go on vacation 🍻☀️🏄🏻
KEN bring back the weeklys
Trying. 😂🎉
@@LordofTheRigsWeekly tones to sound like “XYZ” band/album 🤘
Fuck, yeah the live tone from just the cab sounds sick !
Totally, they are both good!
Definitely! No complaints here haha loving this combination
Gotta wonder how many Sam Black Church shirts are still fitting out there.
What's up, Ken?
Been more than a minute.
In fact I prefer the tone with the amp+cab, nastier in a good way.
Any chance this will end up on the fractal axechange? Tones were spot on
Not the direct but just take the settings from my amp tone. All on screen
Great vid.
Question, why not just split the same signal chain to power amp with no impulse response?
Saves on dsp i guess.
Great tone!!!
I want the tone match to be in it's original state "album quality". The 2nd I can manipulate to sound great through a cab exclusively.
Bart knows a good deal about getting good sound to and from the stage like what you're talking about.
axe 3 thru a marshall el34 100/100 is the balls! thru diezel 2x12 and marshall tv 4x12 ;) my true stereo rig
Great sounds for sure!
Hey Ken, any chance you can get that preset up in Axexchange?
It's all here for you to copy except the shadows tone
Sounds good. I prefer the quad cortex however.
AxeFX goated
❤❤❤
Last update had Rev Amps though!
The Krank Revolution?
Krank Rev1
Would you ever put out rig packs with these tones?
Of course
Gotta go with a Fryette power amp for the live rig. Best power amps out there.
I know! Too rare and too heavy❤
@@LordofTheRigs The LXii is pretty sweet, single rack space, sounds huge with my synergy module. Keep up the awesome content!!
@@LordofTheRigsI recommend a Power Station due to its multiple uses.
Hell yeah, good unit. The get to a good power amp is a robust transformer. The 1U stuff does the job, but there's nothing like a 2150
If I could only find a 2150 for a decent price… always on the hunt for one.
Hey Ken do you not need a cab sim with that tone match block? Cheers
You do not!
@@TheKensusi that's rad, sounds great!
Is this question rhetorical?
Kinda. Lol😊
You should share your presets :D
It's all on the screen for you to copy
No more synergy and evh stuff eh??
Love synergy and still use them
WEll i never played thru an tube amp...caribbean guy here...
So wild to read that
@@Dobis86 lol.....i mean some ppl do have tube amps.....very few...saw a jvm sellin by me 7k in TT dollars
What’s the riff at 10:30?
Meaning in tragedy
Metallica uses them. Enough said.
These riffs and music hasn't stood the test of time for sure.
Thanks
it's peak metalcore.
You should ask The most successful touring act in the World: Metallica. They've used Fractal for at least 3 years. Digital is far superior to Analog tube amp(s) in every capacity. Every Capacity. How this conversation: "are fractals good for live use and touring versus real amps" is even a question in 2024 is staggering to me. There are no redeeming qualities for analog amps at this point. Digital is superior. End of story.
Meshuggah and Garbage toured with the old Pod Pro racks well before Metallica started using Fractal stuff. Meshuggah later used the Line6 Vetta amps as well.
I have some holy grail amps but I am planning on making the shift to Axe FX eventually. Ive never used one but yea it seems like a no brainer at this point.
They are both really great. You can't beat a ream amp, but digital has come a long way. Both are great
Do you think Metallica will use digital instead of tube amps to record their studio albums?
While there is nothing like pushing air with a tube amp. , I honestly will never change back from my kemper. Only regret that I have is that I didn't profile my rig before. I sold everything but being able to automate that thing. Go direct to front of house and in ear Monitors is absolutely A. Game changer, I'll never look back
