- This video, shot near Thief River Falls, Minnesota, shows a comparison between traditional rumble strip designs and the newer sinusoidal rumble strips (a.k.a. "mumble strips"). The life-saving benefits of rumble strips are well-established, but traditional designs produce external noise that is considered to be a nuisance by residents. Researchers are investigating whether sinusoidal rumble strip designs, which are much quieter, are effective enough to combat drowsy or inattentive driving.
This video is not intended to be a scientific comparison, but it provides a general idea of the difference between the two styles of rumble strips. Produced by the Minnesota Local Road Research Board. Visit us on the web at www.lrrb.org - Наука
Sinusoidal rumble strip is a great idea, I hate the noise of a regular rumble strip, but I have some concerns about the degradation of the road. What are the long term effects of ice and plow blades? wouldn't rumble strip cause accelerated cracking at the sharp edges? The sinusoidal seems better For sharp edges but worse for pooling water and ice.
You do realize the noise is intentional it’s their to alert, drunk drivers, who have fallen asleep with no noise it effectively removes the purpose
The added noise of traditional is great if you're driving normally and don't realize somehow that you've drifted over (that has it's own problems but...) yea, easy at night with little sleep to not realize you're over the line unless you hear that noise and it snaps you out of it making you realize you need to pull over or wake tfu.

0:21 the sound like an Jeepney in Philippines
Xd nice joke
Rumble strips are a LOUD nuisance and make it unlivable if your house is next to them.
I agree. It sounds like war of the worlds in my neighborhood and we are over 1 mile away from the highway. Absolutely absurd.
