I thought it was cause Gav lost the beard and made him sound a bit higher pitched. ;-)

you should do welding metal in slow motion
I agree, that's a good idea but it would be tough to film. Even with a filter the light would block what we want to see. And if the filter is too dark then you cant see anything at all!
Christopher Bazaka but filming in slow motion with that being the only light source would just darken it, no? it wouldn't be just a massive flash blinding the camera.
Christopher Bazaka although while welding you can watch I happen any way I mean seriously
mason methot thats what im sayin
idk about slow mo its interesting enough in real time with a filter
There's no such thing as "pure steel." Steel is an alloy. By definition, an impure substance.
Ido Keren so is there a pure metal?
Only if it is an element, like Iron, Aluminum, copper, etc. But even then, what is used is usually an alloy where the element is predominant like aluminum is the predominant metal in the aluminum alloy used it can also contain manganese, zinc, copper, silicon, magnesium, tin, etc.
Of course there is pure steel. Everything can be pure (e.g. pure fruit juice vs. fruit juice with sugar or flavor added)
There is no pure steel, that comparison was pretty awful. Pure metal are elements, go check a periodic table. Steel is an alloy which is made of Iron and other elements...
"Pure steel" mean steel that is uncontaminated by other substances that don't belong in the alloy.

For metric (normal) people, it went at about 71 tonnes.
Jamie Bales normal people use kilograms tho..
Tonnes is also metric, it's 1000kg.
Thanks, that's a shit load of weight
And for the scientists thats over 7kN
you will need to tie two trucks at the maximum weight of 80k pounds each to snap this metal rod, that's seriously impressive o_o. Makes you realize just how much stress is expected for a building in an earthquake if these things are used for metal beams inside the concrete.
They said that the steel bar was warm.
How is that possible if everything under Windows XP freezes?
Still worth it.
Jet fuel would make it warmer tho
Fredrick Goodwill Jetfuel cant melt steel
Oskari Lehtonotko so it warms it up
Obviously the friction caused by windows is so high that it freezes instead of overheats. Steel seems to be the lesser form here, where it gets really hot from internal friction.
Love how you can clearly see when it passes its elastic limit
Now snap a living human being in half and film that in slow motion
Shame they didnt have highspeed cameras in Europe during inquisition. There would be plenty of chances to film that. Maybe if they went to middle east...

That machine is basically the opposite of a hydraulic press.
Shenanigan Studios It's exactly opposite.
1000 Degree Knife Vs Hydraulic Pull Machine
Hydraulic Press VS Hydraulic Pull Machine.
It's actually just both of them crushing/pull the same item, to see which destroys it faster.
WizardOf Pointless... Tensile strength and compressive strength are vastly different for most materials... Also, it depends on the size of both machines, the tests would only make sense if the tensile machine has the same value of pulling force as the press has for crushing force.
WizardOf Also, the rate of force-increase is usually much higher for a press than for a tensile-testing/pulling machine.
In Denver, Colorado at the Bureau of Reclamation, one of the two largest Hydraulic Presses in the nation pulled apart a massive bar rated at 4.9 MILLION pounds. The money I would pay to see that break in slow motion
2:39 That reaction was SO FUNNY! xD
Hey Slow Mo guys!!! You guys should film different types of molten metals being poured into a water filled aquarium. Or maybe just heat up a blade or metal pipe and dunk it into water! That would look awesome!
It would be just lots of bubbles, nothing awesome about it.
So they're using windows XP on that machine?
Mr Faceplant nuclear submarines still use Windows xp
Most of the world uses windows xp for this kind of stuff.

DrathVader Yeah, but ATMs are connected to the internet…

Now imagine watching the snap at the molecular level.
Darian Garbig and thats how atomic bombs are made
You wouldn't see anything happening on that scale. Atom can't break, so all youd see is seperation.
JDR sure atoms can break
Sean Bush not in this setting. It takes massive intervention to do so. Resulting in a massive release of energy. The atomic bomb did not split the atom. It fused it.
JDR correct me if I'm wrong, doesn't fission mean the spilling of atoms? Fusing atoms would be fusion
4:07- alright, that had me laughing 🤣🤣
Is it just me or did Gavin sound like he was on helium in the beginning like, third of the video?
Guy Garic I think because of the deeper background noise, you can only really make out the unmasked high pitched tones of Gav's voice. Dan has the same situation, but he has a deeper voice in general.
Yeah the audio was messed up
It almost sounded sped up
The whole thing is sped up by about 5% for some weird reason.
Okay, good... it wasn't me, then! 😁
Either the video was slightly sped up or the pitch was raised 'cause neither of them sound right. Like they pumped the smallest amount of helium in the room.
Spector 117 oh yeah
I think it has to do with the fact that some machines in the facility make a lot of low frequency noises. And the lower frequencies of their voices are masked by the machinery.
Spector 117 he probably filmed at 25fps and accidentally rendered at 30fps
Spector 117 I was wondering if I was alone in this so I scrolled down. I'm glad I'm not going insane cause it's really odd
wouldnt have changed the length of the clips or audio
I know the chances of you seeing this are almost nonexistent, but I saw an awesome GIF on Reddit of someone 'Popping a Frozen Soap Bubble.' I think this would look absolutely top in slow motion! It exploads like glass into shards and dust, it's actually quite spectacular.

If you break the smaller rebar it is actually louder, and probably more pleasing to watch in slomo.
why would it be louder?
I assume maybe it would stretch out more? Making a louder noise once it snaps. Just guessing though.
Allows more stretch and more release when it breaks.

Glad I'm not the only one that noticed this. It's definitely sped up a bit
I would guess it actually has to do with mixing the sound such that their voices can be heard distinctly from the background noise. Maybe a high pass filter, or something. They're definitely not moving or speaking faster than they normally do.
About a minor 3rd higher
Daniel Gregg a filter wouldn’t change the pitch, it would just emphasise the frequencies that were already there. Most likely this is a case of them recording the audio at 44.1kHz then exporting it at 48kHz

There's no reason for it to ever be connected to the internet so it's fine. US military systems do this all the time because their software only works in XP.

Building more tension than an Alfred Hitchcock film.
Plot twist: the machine is hand cranked.
Biggie Cheese Boi You would need Chuck Norris for tht
You can actually get tensile testing machines which are hand turned, obviously you'd use considerably smaller test specimens in them though, but this would be fun to try and hand turn 😂
It would be a twist on,,, give me a long enough lever, and a fulcrum to put it on and will move the world...
So a child could hand crank the machine. . If he could keep at it long enough.😉
But he probably wouldn't be a child when it finally broke..
If you had the right mechanical advantage you could

I’d love to see this experiment again but with infrared slow motion. When is the heat generated? Are there spikes in the heat when it breaks? It would be cool to reverse slow mo and watch the bars cool down. You could even throw in a Schlerin (sp?) image setup. I bet a ton of people would love to see all that in one more pull test.
Would be cool to see a torsion failure coupled with a thermal camera.
