Hi thanks for the video, very informative. 2 questions: 1. Can the raspberry pi output enough power to/for the board? 2. Would you think feasible to avoid the on/off board and trigger monitor "on" when the pi is turned on ? Thanks in advance
I don't think I'd try to power the board off the pi. If anything I'd be more likely buy a power supply that could power both. With the proper conversions you could power both. And yes I think something could be rigged to trigger the monitor on when the pi is powered on.

Hi there and or hello First of all thank you for the tutorial In this video but I got an question to take it an step futher because among this and all other videos I did not have ever seen anyone refurbish an laptop by putting an raspberry pi inside. What's the problem if you put this all together in the old case too. What are your thoughts about it. Must be enough space when you remove the old board and hardware
@Hans van Binsbergen that's certainly possible. The processing power in the raspberry pi would be less than what was in the laptop but there should be enough room in the old laptop case. You might need to create some custom adapters to connect the keyboard and mouse but it would be worth a shot.

The barrel size should be 2.5mm inside and 5.5mm outside.
In this case no, the control board is not the motherboard. You order the control board for the screen based on the part number on the back of the screen you want to reuse. You can use any old laptop as long as there is a control board available for it, or unless you can figure out how to repurpose the motherboard to just drive your screen.
If you're sure you're done with your laptops, carefully take them apart and remove the screens. Once they're removed check the model numbers on the label on the back of your screen and search ebay for that model number plus 'control board', once they arrive plug the control board into your screen and test it. If that works then build a frame for your screen plus the new control board and use it as a monitor.
That would depend on the screen and its power requirements. I'd say it would be safer to power separately but with the right components anything is possible.
@Rafal .Zaniewski that sounds like a lot to me as well, but I'd say go with whatever they recommend. Mine came with a power supply unit so I didn't have to purchase mine separately.

Do you have the right input voltage for the board? are you sure the raspi works and outputs video? are you using any video adapters between the control board and raspi? also, the BSOD is easily fixable, so it probably would have been better to just install linux on the laptop and you'd probably have a better setup.

Then I tried to hook up an Xbox and nothing happened. The screen turns white but that’s about it. Am I missing a part? Do I need a motherboard or a raspberry pi?
I have checked a few places online. Where did you order your boards from? Just curious because I found some but want to be certain before I order. Thank you.
Oh, I see what you mean, I looked through the listings and confirmed that the model number matched for the listing, mine also has a 'v.4' on the label, and I noticed that some boards are for that model but for v.0 or v.5, so I just made sure the one I bought had the same model and the same v.4 on the listing. For mine some come with a remote as well, but I wasn't interested in that so I settled on one without that. I mainly wanted to confirm it had hdmi. Yes, there are 2 power supplies. The screen control board has one power supply and the raspberry pi has it's own power supply.
