6:44 Just to put this into perspective for y'all: We hadn't beaten Vegas in over 3 FULL YEARS. We lost 11 straight matchups against these guys. And to finally be able to do so, while also (possibly) ruining their playoff chances, felt like winning a Cup
I'm so happy you included Bordeleau's penalty shot. Kid's 20 years old, that was only his fifth NHL game, he played exactly two AHL games before being offered the entry-level contract so literally his seventh EVER game at professional level, and he pulled that shot off like he's been undressing NHL goalies for years. What a moment for a rookie!
That Getzlaf assist just reminds me of the Sedins both getting assists (on each others goals i believe) on the tying and OT GWG in their last game. What a way to end incredible careers, what a Hat Pick
That's immediately what I thought of as well, it's great to see players get to have that one final excellent moment in the last game of their NHL career
@@leifopstad2972 Dang-its is my #1, but I do enjoy the Hat Picks. Round out the week with some regular content from The Hockey Guy and I'm a happy hockey fan.
Hey Steve you kinda forgot the ovations for Mike Bossy and Guy Lafleur. For me, the best hat pick of the week is Patrice Bergeron 2 goals 1 assist in a game that he wasn’t supposed to play. He didn’t want to miss the ovation to Lafleur and pay his respect in Lafleur’s way.
It’s true.. the stadium was silent! As an avs fan I was at the game in vegas and loved it! First time seeing a shootout and man that was awesome! I love the sharks!😂
i'm a Calgary boy. Was lucky enough to watch Ryan play as a Hitman. Never seen him play as a duck but we knew he'd be great!! He was a man among boys as a hitman. Great career to watch start to finish. Bless you Ryan and thank you :)
my earliest hockey memories were going to hitmen games with my dad when I was about 5 years old, and watching Getzlaf play. He's always held a special place in my heart. So nice to see him retire with style!
I think an honorable mention should go to the St Louis Blues. After Getzlaf assisted on that goal, of course the crowd gave him a standing ovation. But the Blues also saluted the moment by standing and tapping their sticks on either the ice or the boards, depending on where they were located. A true display of sportsmanship if I've ever seen one. Absolutely congrats to Getzlaf on an amazing career, but hats off to the visiting Blues who helped honor the moment.
That Fiala goal... HOLLY CRAP i feel like he broke my ankles on that play! Glad to see the Canucks made it to hat picks And hats off to Getzlaf, an iconic Ducks player.
Another honorable mention hat pick was the STL Blues lining up to shake/hug with Getzlaf after the game and staying on the ice for his address to the fans.
I'm a Blues fan and was watching that Ducks game and I stood up from my couch in my living room and applauded when Getzy got that assist. That was amazing. I was nearly in tears getting to see that moment. The Ducks are a classy organization to let Backes have his final game in St Louis last year and then to tell Getzlaf he can not play the final couple of the year so his final game can be in Anaheim. That organization is a Hat Pick
Considering there was almost a 20 minute ceremony for Guy Lafleur, and when they asked for a moment of silence it was cheered over, I’m assuming that’s gonna be a dang-it..
Not only did Nashville trade him. It was for Granlund! "You traded me, for him?" As someone that enjoyed Granlund in MN, I've been waiting for a clip like that.
I was at the ducks game, i saw that assist and i knew that the goal really meant nothing in the scheme of the game. But everyone in attendance the fans, the players, the refs (even the blues fans sitting next to me) were on their feet for a solid minute giving Getzlaf a standing ovation for that moment. And i was there, something that i will never forget.
The game is bigger than wins and losses, and we love our teams and players even when the season doesn't go well, and when everybody knows it's his final game, you have to appreciate such a beautiful pass. That's the way to retire.
Definitely was not mad at that goal at all. And I’ll give him the high complement of “I’m glad that pain in the ____ is gone from the ice.” Seems to be a decent guy off the ice.
Honorable mention for a Hat Pick, with a slight asterisk: Kucherov, Stamkos, and Hedman have a combined 52 points (16G 36A) over the last 6 games. *It does extend over two weeks, which is why I asterisk'd it.. but talk about heating up when you absolutely need to. If only Kuch had played a full 82-game season, he and Stammer would be well over 100 right now, and possibly even Hedman would be neck & neck with Josi.
Look at the Leafs: they take away the breakaway, they take away the shot lane, they go into their own zone... but they all give up after the Goalie makes the save... like the *game is still going go get the rebound!*
As im watching the Stamkos shot i get a notification from the nhl app about him getting his first 100 point season. Which seems ridiculous that its never happened before.
After seeing all these wicked assist that are so good that they should overshadow the goal itself, I think you should come up with a cool name for them, like a 'Stinger' or something like that. Make it happen Steve!
That's why the top PP unit for Tampa is so good. Stammer, Kucherov and Hedman can all score. All 3 have perfected the 1 timer, a solid wrister and if need be, Hedman will just slapshot a 100+ mph from the blue line to over power. Then you add 2 more player causing a screen or being available in front for a tip in. That's hard coverage on the PK.
@@Dysfunxinal Yeah don’t forget Brayden Point player the bumper spot and Alex Killorn doing his best Joe Pavelski impression. When that PP1 is fully healthy it’s crazy.
Just watched the video. After you mentioned Kucherov now being at 609 I looked him and Stamkos up. Kucherov is now at 614! He has 29 points in 15 games in April. If he can stay healthy he will easily pass Stamkos and probably only need 3-4 season to do it.
The best part about Vegas missing the playoffs this year, is the audacity of this team to raise my season ticket prices 5%. Hubris does not even begin to describe this franchise. One more season left on my contract, and then I am out until a different group is running it.
The fact that Mark Kastelic scoring his first ever NHL goal on a softie against Carey Price, then dropping the gloves right after shooting it is neither a hat pick nor a dang-it floors me.
You missed a few of the absolute robberies that Quick put up against Anaheim across their last two meetings. (we don't talk about the bouncing puck though...)
I hate that Vegas booed the call when the last goal was good. What are you booing? There is no world in which that wasn't the right call, so regardless of whether they were booing the Sharks, or the refs, or their own team, it's classless and lousy. But I guess I shouldn't expect much more from one of the worst fan bases in hockey.
I'd go with Kastelic scoring his 1st NHL goal and immediately dropping the gloves.. followed by his second NHL goal where he dangles CAREY PRICE. Steve and Drew are biased though and they ignore bottom teams having good moments. Damn shame.
I'm a bit surprised Ovi's 50th goal of the season didn't feature. He did become the oldest player to score 50 in a season, not to mention having the tied most 50 goal seasons in a career -- seems like a milestone and a hatpick to me...
Pretty sure they're trying not to highlight him given his.. questionable friendship circle. In a video a couple weeks back Steve mentioned that it is a dicey topic so I wouldn't be surprised that they would just avoid, there are a lot of other awesome NHL plays out there to choose from!
Steve, last minute suggestion. make the last Dang Its about clips that were missed throughout the season, as in clips that got left behind in all the action going on.
