The only way to get rid from the cycle of birth and death is to come out from this worldy love and pleasure. As Shri Aurobindo put it so nicely, "There are two great powers alone that can effect in their conjunction the great and difficult thing that is the aim of our endeavor: a fixed and unfailing aspiration that calls from below and the divine grace that answers from above." But as Lord Krishna has said elsewhere in the Bhagavad Gita, मत् प्रसादादवाप्नोति शाश्वतं पदमव्ययम् - the ultimate destination, the Param Pada, will only be attained by My Grace. So, through sadhana (self-effort) we have to attract that divine grace which will cause God-realization - the ultimate attainment.
In order to attain self realization we need both, the grace of God and self effort. With effort we first need to cleanse our hearts and then only we can receive the grace of God!

Amazing way of explaining the truth that this world is not meant for pleasure and death called is inevitable even if we put best efforts. I compare this to studies, we go to school and college to pursue some knowledge, it's a period to seek knowledge and do austerities like wake up early in the morning, giving up pleasures like movies and hanging out with friends as per the demand. Instead giving priority to studies, we indulge in pleasure seeking we loose in our life, we fail in the exams. This world too is a University of Hardknocks as Swamiji says. We should not indulge in material pleasure, should make service and devotion as high priority like Shabari and we could make it successful by keeping faith on God. With His grace, one day we will reach the goal of God realisation.
