  • Richard Wagner's 'Der Ring des Nibelungen' is a cycle of four operas based on Norse legends and mythology. The third of these operas is 'Siegfried', which is subtitled "Second Day", with the first and third being 'Die Walküre' and 'Götterdämmerung.' In the closing scene of 'Siegfried', Siegfried and Brünnhilde sing the love duet 'Ewig war ich, ewig bin ich', which uses the melody from Wagner's earlier 'Siegfried Idyll'. Stradal's transcription of Act III, Scene 3 is titled 'Schluss des letzten Aufzuges' or 'End of the last act'. The piece is a rather direct transcription, although some parts, mainly the vocal lines, are omitted in order to make the piece more pianistic. Stradal's transcription is able to capture the complexity of Wagner's original music; the many distinct voices present in every section of the piece can be still heard separately through the singular sound of the piano.
Many of the omitted vocal lines are added into the performance by Vizcarra. The score will not accurately reflect the changes that the pianist made.
