I bought one of those cheap Chinese component testers and it's been worth it's weight in gold in terms of time reduction. It's surprising how many engineers don't check the ESR on caps, only checking the capacitance. Nice video and good to have a straightforward fault on a device (for a change).
Nice repairs and good demonstration how power supply is the first and most fundamental component to work properly in any device. Faulty psu caps creating ripple and making voltages too low for the laser, or any other component, and the device doesn't work properly. Some adjust the laser voltage from those potentiometers nearby the laser, but I think the psu should be checked and fixed before that.
@@12voltvids yea sometimes they’re not aligned properly from the factory, this causes the disc to freeze at the start halfway through or at the end of the disc
@@12voltvids I realize it’s now always been Philips. Also, the monopoly mascot has never had a monocle and Ed McMahon has never worked for Publishers Clearing House.

I like these DVD repair videos. I wish this person could do more of them.
He has fixed 100s of them
@@tacofortgens3471 That’s good to know.
Good morning Dave you got a nother one up and running 💯💯💯👏🏽👏🏽

I really did not expect the problem in psu. I did not expect a very slight rise to do that. Perhaps under load it went way up as it heated up.
Yes, quickest way to drastically shorten the lifespan of a laser when people start tweaking the intensity before checking the power rails.
Exactly. You can't expect any device working properly when wrong voltages are applied to components. Checking Powersupply voltages is always step 1.
I can’t tell you how many dvd players that behave that way!! Thanks for this!! So hard to find any info on these.
I was expecting it to be the spindle motor but looks like power supply as its still going strong today, Tuesday and I did the service on Sunday.
Alright Dave..... at 16:40 an AIR show and .... DERRIERE SHOW ! Nice "bottoms - UP video shot to end the repair.
Great job as usual =D Keep up the great work!!
Damn , you did it again. Nice job
I'd say that's a good outcome happy days
Was this recorded before you obtained the new microphone setup?
I went back to old microphone because many said the old sounds better
@@12voltvids I also find the old sound better, it's more natural. But I don't really mind it that much.
Most common faults when discs don’t play on dvd players is the laser skew, 3 screws that align the laser, they have to be perfect
I would say spindle motor. The laser doesn't get out if alignment unless someone us screwing with it.

yeah can't believe how empty it is inside! not much to them at that time
If i was to change a10000uf 25v reservoir capacitor for a standard capacitor in a power supply would it power up...Sony SL-HF1000D Beta VCR
They're just standard caps on that one
@@12voltvids Thanks!
sir i have sony dvp-ns51p no video output whats that problem
Its beoken
@@12voltvids no broken sir dvd read and play but video not out put
I don't think that beoken is a real word silly@@12voltvids
Was Phillips, not Philips. Mandela Effect.
What?
@@12voltvids The spelling of the company name. It was always Phillips for me. “Philips” looks so wrong. Research the Mandela Effect sometime.
@nyccollin company has always been spelled philips. Now if you are talking about a type of screwdriver well thats a phillips.
