I'm surprised Tifo made this whole video and omitted the fact that part of the reason Zaha has such a high transfer fee is because of his high sell on clause (25%) to Man Utd. This creates that weird limbo that a club would need to overpay for the fee to ever be enough for Palace to sell a player that's vital to their team and why he was always going to walk for free.
That explains a lot, Tifo's video quality hasn't been as good these days. Probably a mistake by Palace not to renew his contract in 2021 when they were in a more positive headspace under Vieira's first season.
I'm speaking for every Palace fan here - Zaha's worth to our club is more than any dollar-value transfer. He's been our talisman for the better part of 10 years, and has played a key part in keeping us up. I truly hope we manage to get him to sign an extension, because regardless of how old he is, we're going to struggle the second he leaves us. Not only that, but the 25% sell-on clause to Manchester United is something to seriously consider. In recent years we've invested super wisely. Eze, Guehi, Olise, Anderson are all fantastic players for us and will play a part in trying to push us up the ladder slowly but surely. I just pray we actually decide on an ambition rather than sell these players to bigger clubs for profit.
This summer might be full of opportunities for Palace: The teams going down have some very good players to be picked up(KWP, Bella Kotchap, maybe T.Adams, Barnes, Sinisterra, Dewsbury-Hall) and in the Championship are also a few talents that won't make it up. (A.Scott, Piroe, I.Sarr, Swift, maybe even Gyokeres). Plus the clear out at Chelsea and potential Spurs could give Palace even more options. And there's a lot of very good free agent players available for a midtable Prem Club, like Skhiri, J.Bamba, v.d.Boomen, Lerma, Aouar, R.Kent, Morelos. Even if they loose Zaha and maybe Olise for a huge amount (60+ million), as long as they hold the rest together and make only one of them to profit, i think they will be okay, maybe come out even better.
I can’t simply tell you how important he is for palace and I am sure palace would have been relegated without him so there is no conundrum only praise for whoever made the decision to keep him.
Yeah that is the conundrum. Zaha kept them at the BPL but now Zaha goes for a free transfer but with no notable replacement. This could mean relegation next season. In my opinion they should've extended his deal back in 2021 when they had a better footing in the BPL.

You need to accept how great a coach Pep Guardiola is. Remember KDB at chelsea? Sterling at Liverpool? Kyle Walker at Tottenham? Big Sam or Tony Pulis aint getting THAT Foden of him.
Keeping Zaha at Crystal Palace has been mutually beneficial for both player and club: The former is guarenteed playing time, and has prospered with his goal scoring record, the latter likewise has maintained their position in the top tier of English football and could challenge for better positions (i.e. European slots) in successive seasons. There are plenty of examples of clubs that have fallen apart after selling their star player (e.g. Leeds and Kalvin Philips) and more where that star player has struggled to make it into a different squad, for whatever reason or another (e.g. Danny Drinkwater at Chelsea).
In case of Zaha there is no problem for not selling him. Kane too for an extent is irreplaceable. Without these players their respective clubs will be 10-15 points behind.
This 100%. Spurs would not be competing for Europe at all without Kane and I don't want to have to think of a Tottenham side without Kane. I've seen too many 1-0 wins, including the recent game over Palace, where I don't think they win without Kane. Long summer ahead on that front.
His contributed his part in helping them stay in the Prem. That is an achievement of its own and should be respected. His worth more to Palace than 70mil.
This season Palace played better when Zaha wasn’t available, so I think they’ll be fine after he leaves on a free this summer. And in general, I like to see smallish clubs keep good players rather than automatically selling every good player to one of the rich clubs.
Zaha is the only genuine talisman Palace have. He brings a competitive edge and confidence to the dressing room, something Tifo's dullard stats and figures drones past. Oh, and the 25% Man Utd sell on fee which was comfortably ignored.
When we had Zaha at Manchester United we wasted his career since Moyes also wasted Kagawa on the wing where we could have played Zaha there. One of the few players Manchester United could have turned to legit stars. Without Zaha, Palace no question would not be still in the Premier League. In 17/18 Zaha singlehandedly kept Palace up and I can't blame Palace for not selling him for a long time since he returned. Should Zaha leave on a free, it will be difficult to replace him and at the same time will be difficult for Zaha to play in a Champions League club since he's 30 years old unless Newcastle United qualifies but their qualification isn't secure yet.
Olise and Eze are proof we are okay without Zaha. However Zaha is oir greatest and still has something to offer in his closing years. 100% agree - you only have to look at Southampton who have a much better youth academy than us, yet they sold the majority of those players and where are they next season?
I feel like crystal palace's situation is similar to poch's southhampton. They were able to recruit well, and retain players for a 2-3 year period of time to shoot up the table and avoid relegation. Only after the manager left and the squad was gutted of its key players did they begin to decline. Zaha has consistenly performed well over the years for palace, and I think that relegation is going to be a risk for any non-top 6 club regardless of who because of increasing competition and money in the premier league. If they could be like Leicester, west ham, wolves or Southampton and manage to have a few good years and European football could bring good memorable years to the club. I think that is good example because all of these clubs have had relative success in the prem and Europe and are all recently threatened by relegation. In contrast, brentford have obviously done extraordinarily well selling players and using data to recruit and manage their team. To keep in mind, this is about retaining good players at the club to do well, rather than being like everton, who tried to build an amazing team with no real foundation.
In these scenarios I would almost always favour keeping a good player and letting them go on a free. The risk to replace a proven quality player is just too high to justify msot transfer fees, compared with the earnings from staying in the league.
always assumed Palace and Zaha had an agreement he would stay and help them until his contract runs out and he get a couple years in a foreign league playing European football before he retires. The 25% sell on clause killed his chances of moving for a transfer fee.
Mind you, no matter how well their recruitment performs they won't chase any title since there are more compact teams with much better managers. The issue in my opinion is not ending up 6th in a league. Entirely possible if they have an entire year of great form next year. The issue is that their aspiring stars will get taken by teams with bigger budgets as soon as possible and that leaves the team in this entire cycle of JUST participating. If they are JUST going to participate in the League like many other teams not going through relegation woes or chasing titles. I think it makes sense to keep your best players until the value is low.
I think they as a club have benefited greatly from his presence. He should have perhaps kicked up a fuss to get a move sooner. He is a player that could (should) be playing champions league football not worrying about premier league survival. I think he’d do well at a Atletico Madrid or perhaps AC Milan. Maybe by moving to one of the two aforementioned clubs he’d earn less money, but this a talent that deserves to be showcased on a Wednesday evening somewhere! Let’s be honest, I am sure he isn’t struggling for cash.
I just worry where Palace would have been without Zaha, his presence can't be replaced when you're a team who don't have the pull of being in Europe. I also look at what happened after Spurs sold Bale and the amount of players that came in, had little impact and no resale value
This is by far the worst TIFO Football video, it's something that TalkSport would do. Theres no debate to be had, the best thing Crystal Palace have done in their recent history was clinging onto Zaha. So firstly Arsenal bidded £40 million, what they paid for Pepe is irrelevant as they didnt offer Palace that figure, that is a stupid logic that fans have picked up on. Secondly, Manchester United had a 25% sell on clause, so United would have got £10 million from Arsenals £40 million offer leaving Palace to try and find a Zaha replacement with £30 million whiich is never hoing yo happen which keads me to my next point. Palace would have had to use that money to replace Zaha, thete would have been no profit again no-one factors this in, their squad proved they werent hood enough without him as we all remember that awful record when he didnt play. Relegation, yes relegation. For a channel as articulate as TIFO this factor alone was worth Palace keeping him, Palace had a high wage bill and if they got relegated the would have been constricted to a more toihher FFP and at the time, they had the 17th highest wage bill in Europe, they needed every penny of that Prem money. By keeping him, theyve bridged the gap and now Eze & Olise are ready to takeover. This video is just gobby journalism to get engagement from the low IQ Football fan who uses narratives without context. Which is disappointing when a channel like TIFO does it
@@Jluyoungzone Incorrect, their Chairman came out and said the figure was £70 million. The figure raised when Arsenal already signed Pepe and the season started so Palace would have had to pay more for a replacement but that was because Everton were dragging their feet with an improved bid and the season started. Like I said, Arsenal never offered more than £40 Million. Emery & Zaha's stories on the saga confirms this. Emery said that Arsenal went behind his back and got him Pepe he wanted Zaha but Arsenal thought £40 million was his valuation. Zaha doubled down on this saying that Emery said he wanted him then he heard nothing and the next thing he knew, they signed Pepe. Everton were only team who made a decent offer bringing Arsenal into the debate is just for dramatic reasons as Pepe flopped
@D C The chairman can say whatever they want, but most of the news outlets at the time reported 80 million. Whether it was 70 or 80 million, it doesn't change the fact that Arsenal walked away from the deal because of the disparity between their valuation of Zaha, and Palace's valuation. They didn't want to waste their time and went for the Pepe deal, which they saw as more favourable. It's relevant information imo
Palace could be trying to avoid what Leicester did; selling their important players and while they made a healthy profit off them, their replacements didn't work and in the end they just fell apart.
Thanks for covering the club I support! I don’t think we “had” to let those experienced players go. It was a choice, and the club had planned for it in advance. It’s fair to say that the players we signed that summer after the clear out are easily some of the best players at the club right now. For me personally, I’m happy we kept Zaha. The only regret is that we didn’t sign Gallagher rather than loan him. Maybe this summer we have another go at bringing him back!
Apart from the PL money, Tifo are forgetting the TV revenue PL gets is faaar more than that of the Championship. There is also a sell-on clause, and there are no guarantees that a relegated club will come back up the next season.
I still don’t understand why in this day and age wages aren’t mentioned when calculating a player’s value. It is a known fact now that doing the accounting for a football club that the player amortisation is a linear calculation of transfer fee + wages over the length of the contract.
As a palace fan this has been going on well to long and with the young talent of eze olise etc he should feel safe to go now as we don’t rely on him as much as we did
With a 25% sell on clause to Man United, Palace would have only got £30m for Zaha. And considering how big a role he has played in keeping Palace in the PL, it was the right decision Palace made to keep him.
Its really a tight spot for them, only thing they can do is invest on their youth system or poach young players that arent getting game time at big clubs i.e omari hutchinson when he was playing for arsenal or even now from chelsea and so on
As an American, I couldn't name a single Palace player besides Zaha (until recently, Eze and Olise are now big prospects). It goes to show how important he's been to that club for YEARS. He's their franchise player. They shouldn't sell Olise or Guehi either. Keep investing the money they get from staying in the prem into other young talents to add to what they have. Zaha (and Eze/Olise) will keep them in the prem long enough to find a European-level squad.

He is to Palace, what N'Zogbia was for Wigan back in the day.
always assumed Palace and Zaha had an agreement he would stay and help them until his contract runs out and he get a couple years in a foreign league playing European football before he retires.
Great video
Good job 👍👍
Still has the coolest name of any club tho
Zaha reminds me of a younger Zaha. They're very similar players, almost identical in fact. The only thing that seperates them is time.
Good review 👍
Very interested and informative video with excellent detail ❤❤❤❤lovely
Excellent thanks 👍
Which is disappointing when a channel like TIFO does it
That's the sad part of today's media they trade quality information for more clicks from gullible consumers
The reason Arsenal paid £70m for Pepe is that Palace set an asking price of £80m for Zaha, so it is relevant
@@Jluyoungzone looks like they bottled that transfer, glad it wasn't a sign of things to come though.
It’s amazing how this has become the narrative. We tried to keep all of those players, the only one that didn’t refuse to play was Maguire.
Thanks for this information
Very informative 👍👍👍👍
Hey Tifo Football! Let's make the Harry Kane Conundrum video! It will look almost the same like this one. :D
Palace could be trying to avoid what Leicester did; selling their important players and while they made a healthy profit off them, their replacements didn't work and in the end they just fell apart.
Superb video
From Norbury to Thornton Heath He is a legend ❤️
Great information
Very informative video
Great Analysis
Thanks for covering the club I support! I don’t think we “had” to let those experienced players go. It was a choice, and the club had planned for it in advance. It’s fair to say that the players we signed that summer after the clear out are easily some of the best players at the club right now. For me personally, I’m happy we kept Zaha. The only regret is that we didn’t sign Gallagher rather than loan him. Maybe this summer we have another go at bringing him back!
Nice review
Christ, I've always admired Palace fans from afar and this comment section is why. Cheers.
From Norbury to Thornton Heath, he’s a legend
Amazing work video 🤩👍👌🎊💖
Best CP player for the last 8years i guess
Ez
Just call them Palace ffs
Good job 👏👏👏👏
Apart from the PL money, Tifo are forgetting the TV revenue PL gets is faaar more than that of the Championship. There is also a sell-on clause, and there are no guarantees that a relegated club will come back up the next season.
great as always but I think you guys should EQ the bass down a bit in Joe's booming voice
£40mil was a shocking offer, they made the right choice
Excellent video..
Good information
I still don’t understand why in this day and age wages aren’t mentioned when calculating a player’s value. It is a known fact now that doing the accounting for a football club that the player amortisation is a linear calculation of transfer fee + wages over the length of the contract.
Zaha gave Palace everything he could and almost single handedly kept them up at one point.
Now it’s Eze’s turn 👀👀
Nice information
Do Harry Kane next. Why he should leave Spurs, years ago.
Excellent 👍👍👍
Interesting video 👍
In terms of value to an individual club; I think Wilfried Zaha has arguably been the best player in the league.
As a palace fan this has been going on well to long and with the young talent of eze olise etc he should feel safe to go now as we don’t rely on him as much as we did
Great job
Everton had two offers of £55m and £70m turned down for him in the same window
Fabulous video
City also rotate their squad like crazy, less game time will help their older players maintain a higher level
I blinked at the pronunciation of Joachim Andersen 😅
the relationship between zaha and palace is a practical definition of the words destiny and fate.
Wow amazing ❤
Very good 👍
Very nice 👍👍👍
With a 25% sell on clause to Man United, Palace would have only got £30m for Zaha. And considering how big a role he has played in keeping Palace in the PL, it was the right decision Palace made to keep him.
Animation are awesome
Outstanding
Beautiful ❤️
Good content excellent video
Franchise Player? Quiet Yank
