Had trouble with windows 10 moving over magisk zip, and am now stuck. Have tried deleting drivers and installing Windows Media Pack, but nothing worked.
Stuck on which step?
You can use an OTG cable and connect an SD card (copy the file to the SD card)...and in twrp you can use OTG as source to find the magisk file.
My Nexus 5x cell phone stays at start, it doesn't start, I followed the steps, now it doesn't start, only an image of Google appears spinning.
Hello. I get to 5:35 with no problem. Once the phone reboots and I look at the installed apps, there is no Magisk app. When I do the root checker I’m getting an error saying Root access is not properly installed on the device. I’ve wiped the phone and walked through the steps two times. Am I missing something?

Hey man, tried the steps as is. 2 different things happened on my phone. 1.)After unlocking the bootloader, phone starts in recovery mode using the twrp but the phone asks for a password to decrypt data. after i cancel it says unmodified system partition with the following message " TWRP can leave your system partition unmodified to make it easier for you to take official updates TWRP will be unable to prevent the stock ROM from replacing TWRP and will not offer to root your device. Installing zips or performing adb operations may still modify the system partition." At the end it says, swipe to allow modifications. After I swipe to allow modifications i reach the screen at 4.33. Post this i cant access phones internal memory to copy magisk. PLease help
Ohhh. After you come to that screen, just go to wipe and format data..... That should do it

You can use adb to transfer the file by running
adb push NAME_OF_FILE.zip "/sdcard/"

hey man i have problem mounting my 5x. I followed everything you did up to 4:38 in the video. but i can't transfer files. i tried mounting it but doens't seem to work. and asks for a password if i pick "decrypt data"
TWRP may be the problem here. Are u sure u have the latest version? as older versions of twrp have this issue
any other possibilities? I've used the same version of twrp as you did (3.2.1) and also can't transfer files
You connected your phone to pc and it isn't showing? If yes, then check device manager if the device has a driver or not
looks like it was the password being wiped when i added twrp. I just went back into the system, added a new password, returned to twrp, put in password and voila!

I got to the stage where you say to transfer the zip file over to the phone. I can't do that while it's in the bootloader as I can't set it to work with data transfer. When I try and get the phone back in to it's normal state it just sticks on the Google logo loading screen. Please help
You can transfer files while in bootloader mode..... Flash TWRP, boot into it and then copy

@@TheGadgetNinja Yes, I'm on that screen with 'install, wipe, backup, restore' etc. But my PC wont detect the device so I can't copy the zip file whilst in TWRP. I need to swipe down from the top bar to enable data transfer but I can't do that from this screen. How would I go about getting my phone back to the usual homescreen, any command promps or anything?

Hey, I stored Magisk in internal storage but not root because I could not see it. Now that I am in twrp I cant find the magisk. Now but phone I am stuck and don't know what to do. Can you please advise?
what I did is moved the magisk zip before starting the twrp flash, try booting into the phone normally then move magisk into internal storage
@@mr.smithers8435 I got it. Thanks. For some reason my 5x wouldn't let me move files on the internal storage. So I had to use adb push command to move files. Once, I did that all of sudden I was able to move all the files by just dragging them the normal way.
THANK YOU. After rooting, device would never start and force me to flash stock images. Mounting System right after root solved everything.

I couldnt transfer the magisk while i was on TWR so i restarted the phone in order to transfer it, now it is stuck on the google logo with the red/green/yellow/blue theme where it moves around, what can i do?

I cannot do that since the phone itself is stuck on that mode, i cannot turn it off or do anything, i tried fastboot but it just keeps spinning with the google letters.

So u can do two things, flash the stock image or mount system in twrp..... Firstly, holder power and volume up until you get to fastboot. Now you can flash stock image.
But if you do not wanna do that, on fastboot, navigate to recovery mode using volume keys and click power to select it. You should get booted in twrp. Now, click on Mount and select System and Vendor. Go back and reboot your system. Everything should work fine now.
Ok i managed to go to bootloader by pressing the power down + power and i did the whole vendor system thing and then reboot, but it still gets stuck.

That's alright..... Nothing to worry about... That's a DM verity error.... It won't do anything. However, if you wanna remove that you can do so by flashing no DM verity file in twrp.

every time i unlock the bootloader the phone goes back into a locked bootloader after a restart. tried to install a million times doesnt work oem unlock is enabled and os updates disabled
After unlocking, you don't get the padlock icon on boot? Do one thing, flash the stock image amd thrn try again. Maybe software is posing an issue for you. Let me know if it works!

Thats weird. You did something wrong I guess or there might be a virus. Just reset your phone from recovery

Before unlocking ur bootloader, make a backup of ur personal data as unlocking the bootloader will erase all data

Ok.... Connect your android device while its in fastboot.
Go to device Manager.
Click on other devices
Update the driver of your phone
Select the option which says select something from system
Click on Android devices
Install Android Bootloader Interface.

OK , well the Video would be better if you used an UNROOTED phone and stepped through the process of actually ROOTING it. Its all a bit ambiguous when a video is a how-to but doesnt step through the actual steps. Your other Video that steps trough android 7 is stuffed, as you point out, so no good either. Just saying.... kind of a job only half done ...
Hmmm.... Interesting..... I checked both videos and in this particular one, I did not unlock the bootloader, that's the only difference. I don't know what other job you're talking about here?

I went trough the whole process, everything seemed to go exactly as instructed, but the Nexus is still not rooted. Actually Magisk Manager is not installed, so will check back
Here's what I think now, the latest security patches doesn't allow the phone to be unlocked or rooted.
I tried unlocking the BL of one of my subscriber but was not successful.
I don't own a 5X now as mine died.
If you're so keen on rooting, can u use a previous version of software and try to root (possibly the security patch that I had in the video)
Again, this is a pure speculation.
