This aircraft may not be very good in regards to performance compared to its contemporaries, but in the meta of War Thunder you can certainly do very well with it.
It counters Russians and British, but US should counter it. Except the pilot is often not good enough to hit a maneuvering Zero and hence approaches too close, and then reversing is a piece of cake.
As someone who mains japan, i Approve. It is very satisfying dodging opponents and then painfully reminding them that just because they are faster doesn't make them immune when if effective gun range
You're most likely missing, people really don't practice actually aiming in WT, especially the U.S players that think they have infinite ammo. In a zero or similar plane you have to fire within 300m or less to really gaurentee hits. I see so many people blow through their 20 mils spraying at one plane and wonder why they're out of ammo.
Zeros are so fun to fly. I even do good in them even when the enemy know how to fly there planes. The Zero has my highest kills in it with the lowest death 160 kills to 30 deaths in the A6M3.
I had some of those lag pursuits with the zero, a P47 diving from stratosphere, looked like it was going to H2H me but nope, i dove in a half low yoyo and ended in its tail blazing him. The feel of the timing was amazing, a bit earlier and i would end in his guns, a bit later and he would escaped from me. Cheers Adam, really like your videos.
@@AdamTheEnginerd Hi again. By the way (in case you dont have a similar video already) can you do a La7 video? I know is a realy good energy fighter but I cant make it work properly. Cheers g'day.
Personally, I've perfected a special headon trick with enemy P-51s. The idea is to dodge a headon very early, like at 2 km distance (changes depending on speed of course). If he tries to go straight, then I'll have completed a 180 degree turn onto his tail at a very close range, rather than being outside of guns range when I complete the turn. If he instead tries to get on my tail because I start turning so early, I can bait him to lose his energy and overshoot, giving me a shot. As long as you don't get shot down exposing yourself like that, you pretty much always get a good shot at the enemy before they escape.
2 km? When you complete the 180 degree turn he'll be in perfect firing distance from 700m or so? I'm not sure I understand that first part. The second part is what I do, I bait him close and up if possible, which gives me a few seconds of firing time before he gets out of range.
Yeah, getting him to his perfect firing distance is necessary because if you don't do it for him he'll run away. You basically have to lure him in by making yourself almost, but not quite, killable.
When ever i fly my team always let me down even when i have three kills and am trying to pull ever trick to survive. They just go after the AI ships and planes and leave me to die
Man happened a couple times... One, my SOVIET (low ammo) team, FIRST shot the AI planes, and went back to the base. I was ahead of them, alone, no time to retreat, and the enemy ENTIRE team went on me and killed me of course. The other time, after the initial combat, our survivors fighters were killing AI planes while a few enemies were above us. I was close to the allies and saw the enemies dividing on us. Reported them coming but they ignored and kept shooting AI planes... OF COURSE enemy dived ON ME and killed me first, while my team mates, who were just beside me, ignored me while enemy was diving on me... Oh man RB gives you a hard time sometimes lol. The problem is not AI, it's actually good for strategy, easy kills (when enemy is shooting them carelessly), and to get some extra points. The problem is when your teammates act like these examples I told you

Eg if it is better to learn with nose/wing mounted, if I should stick to one gun type at the beginning etc. thx would be very appreciated :)
Haha thanks! That has been asked a few times, but I have no idea how to make a guide on shooting. I'll keep it mind if ever I get inspiration. One simple thing I can tell you is to not zoom in, it's counter productive.
@@AdamTheEnginerd if you use it in a proper way, it isn't bad. I use it to see very far enemies to see what kind of plane they have or when I'm going for someone in a dive, to see what maneuver he is doing. Also I have to play with low graphics so, maybe that's why I zoom. Of course when I'm in a dog fight I never do it, just to aim better at head ons, shooting and getting away, not ramming.
Interestingly, I found that many Allied pilots have something I call "Late Game Realization Syndrome". They spent nearly a match (attempting to) dogfight or watch their teammates doing so and then once there is only them left alive they suddenly regain their brain function and climb away, stall the game for 30mins and win cheaply by tickets. Really annoying and is basically impossible to counter
I am slowly agreeing about the germans being the hardest planes to fly. Being a middle ground means adapting against the enemy planes, but is hard to do when both spitfire and a p51 is both on the tail. But I think there's something about fw 190 D's dogfighting ability. I refuse to believe it is restricted to bnz/bnr like most people say.
This aircraft is fantastic the only thing I feel that is a let down is the short Type 99 model 1 cannons which don't have good enough velocity to shoot a faster aircraft in a reversal at range
