  • Here are the Anita Kerr Singers doing their usual professional best on a big-band radio weather jingle from the early 1960’s for WLS, a Top-40 AM Chicago radio station. Enjoy my DES [Digitally Extracted STEREO] remix/remaster of this favorite historic jingle.
WLS ran jingles created by Anita Kerr and her 4-person vocal group since its inception as a contemporary music station in 1960 have always been a major part of the presentation of the station. Their sound was soft, well-blended and distinctive. These jingles propelled WLS into super-stardom.
These jingles were a major part of my formative years. I wanted to hear them in stereo. They were EQ’d for AM Radio broadcast, so the low-end and high-end were extremely exaggerated to sound good in that format, making it a challenge to EQ it for today's non-AM ears.
    Technical Information:
I used iZotope RX-8 to isolate the Vocals, Orchestra, Drums and Bass into 4 separate tracks. Adobe Audition was used for Dynamic Range recovery, EQ, Delay, Reverb and final mixdown. Sonic Studio’s Amarra Luxe Sound Processor was used for post EQ and upsampling. NERO 2019 Platinum used to generate the final video.

Enjoy my MONO-to-STEREO conversion of this treasure from my childhood as the Anita Kerr Singers announce the upcoming weekend weather in Chicago on Wonderful WLS Radio AM 890.

I recall this jingle from the mid '60s but I was a long way from Chicago in central Kansas. I couldn't get WLS in the daytime, but loved listening in the evenings on my RCA radio phonograph.

Thank you for stopping by! Glad you enjoyed this blast from the past. Funny... I grew up in Chicago and was thrilled to hear a great rock station out of Memphis late at night! But I was privaged to be raised in the heart of Chicago with WLS!

Sounds Wonderful !!! So good to hear a lead in or any commercial with real music and real musicians. They are truly missed. Have not listened to the Anita Kerr Singers for a while so this morning I am listening to "The Best Of The Best" Vol-1

I was indoctrinated with the Anita Kerr Singers at a young age listening to their countless WLS jingles. I loved their sound as a kid. Now I greatly appreciate their talents as an adult. Their beautifully blended sound is incredible. Their masterful jingles catapulted WLS into the stratosphere.

Thanks Tiger. ...but that EQ was WAY off. It was EQ'd for AM Radio broadcast and It was a bitch trying to normalize it. There were few "stem-hoppers" where a bit of the vocals received the delay effect that I put on the orchestra. [Only Christopher K would notice]. Thanks again for stopping by!

Bob, Great job! WLS was a big favorite of mine & my brothers in the 60s! Might be a little to peaked in the midrange for my ears - check your email. Rog

Hi Rog! Thanks for stopping by! Growing up in Chicago listening to WLS & WCFL in the 60's & 70's was magical. What a time to be a teen! The EQ on the original audio was so wacked out that I just got burnt out trying to normalize it. I should have been doing AB comparisons with one of their regular popular recordings s a reference. Thanks again for stopping by!!! Checking email now.
