Hello! I’m A-Plus of SOM/Hiero, the producer of 93 til Infinity. First, let me say that this whole breakdown is awesome! I really appreciate all of it. Both stories of the sample discovery presented are true, combine them both for the full story. The original sample for 91 til Infinity was “So Far Away” by The Crusaders, from their 1971 album Crusaders 1, a great album. The 808 in the 93 til beat was sampled from a hip hop record that left an open 808 in the song, it’s where many producers of the time sampled their 808 from, but I won’t disclose what song, to avoid the sample clearance vultures. The same is true of the shakers present in the 93 til beat, I’ll never tell lol. Lastly, the 93 til beat was made on an Ensoniq EPS 16+, not an SP 1200, but the sample principles described are accurate regardless. A little recognized fact is that I added a chorus effect to the main loop in the track, which added significant warmth to it. Also, I created the appearance of delay on the two horn samples using a loop and sustain technique, due to not having enough effect capabilities on the EPS. Thank you very much for this presentation about our song! We are grateful! Bless Up!
    A-Plus

@@kohort1 somebody got it ☝🏽 the analogy was they’re both freestyle favorites, jazzy, and hard. This is in hindsight of course. Which makes sense cuz the entire Heiroglyphics crew were freestyle monsters! They were the west coast Wu-Tang, if Wu-Tang was more like ATCQ.

Hearing the opening synth of this track is like feeling the warmth of a Californian summer sunset on your face, it’s watching family footage of a summer barbecue on old VHS tapes, its that first t-shirt day in the spring, it’s just an unbelievably positive nostalgic vibe. There isn’t anything as comforting as ‘93 till infinity and that’s why it’s one of my favourite tracks ever, Waves by Freddie Joachim is the only other track that has the same vibe, both completely timeless till infinity ❤

It has this nostalgia of "the good ol' days", a simpler time, it's a time machine as you you said. By the way, new to the channel, only watched a few episodes after catching your MJ ep, but I absolutely love your content. The way you pace the episode is on point and you've got a great voice for this and any voicework work. I love hearing about samples as it opens my eyes to older songs that I've yet to discover. Great write up and breakdown!
In my opinion, what makes this song a classic, the over all good vibe of the lyrics and the beat is wasy to nod your head to.

I remember hearing this song on a skate board mix tape style video. It’s hypnotic. Like an unending groove. You could run this for hours with several rappers just jumping back and forth and it wouldn’t get old.

It’s true how this song never grows old and keeps making it into new playlists created over the years. I love playing it for people who have never heard it before too, and always gets the same positive reaction 🔥

Love the video, was wondering whether you would ever do a video on Pete Rocks "Centre of Attention", I think it's got quite an interesting story to it and off course incredible Pete Rock beats.

This was what put me on to Hiero. I had heard Mr. Dobalina on the radio prior to this but had no idea Del was part of a crew and that crew was dope AF.

I randomly scored this album in the dollar bin as well. It's a keeper! The song the sample comes from is especially beautiful, naturally.
