I love cucumber salads as there are so many vinaigrettes and dressings you can put on them. It can even be as simple as a bottle of Italian salad dressing. What would you add to your cucumber salad?
My mother used onions, cider vinegar, sugar, salt and pepper. She also salted the cukes after slicing and left them for about an hour to reduce the water in the cukes. She rinsed them very well with cold water, patted dry then added all the ingredients before a trip to the fridge waiting for dinner. Still fix them like this as do all 4 of my sisters. Also like the sour cream and dill and, of course, Greek tzatziki.
Thank you for the wonderful recipe and I love you that do it all as a family. I tend not to spend as much time prepping the cucumbers as I use the english hot house cucumbers. They have very soft skin and almost no seeds. Welcome to LCTV 🍸🍸
@@LetsCelebrateTV I agree about using English cucumbers and don’t sweat them as long as the others, but they weren’t available when I was young. I use the English, but my sisters still use the traditional.
I like my cucumber salad on the sweet side, and add a god bit of sugar to the dressing. Also, I really don't care for the cucumber seeds, so I slice the cukes in half lengthwise and scoop out the seeds using a teaspoon. This affords the added benefit of a lot less liquid in the finished salad.
I love both... and yes, I like my cucumber salad on the sweeter side too... but I usually like my salad heartier in order to replace carbs to pair with my protein... so to the cucumber salad with vinaigrette, I will add two other fav ingred... some green like FRESH SPINACH which I find tastier than most other leafy greens when biting into it.... AND .... diced HAAS AVOCADO...
I received a big bag full of the knorrs dill krauter seasoning, i came upon this video trying to find a way to doctor it up. I LOVE dill and i love love love my grandmas cucumbers soaked in AC vinegar with just a splash of water and onions. So i was so excited to get these packets, i thought id love them and i definitely do not even like it. I am making your version of the vinegar recipe now. I like it much better than these packets
@LetsCelebrateTV well I've eaten over half of the cucumbers already, lol I love this vinegar dressing of yours, simple but flavorful and I can still taste the cucs and get the powerful vinegar taste I love so much, also I've never used red onion always yellow, I really like that sweetness it adds. I really just love the taste of vinegar with the cucs, this recipe allows me to add as much extra vinegar as id like, soooo Packets of knorrs are in the garbage, this is my new vinaigrette. ❤
Yum! Cucumber Salad! My Mother bought vinegar based Cucumber Salad at the "German Deli" during the Summer. I've always loved it! The "German Deli" was where she bought sliced Ham for our sandwiches... (Don't tell the neighbors that we eat Ham!) LOL
My Mom peeled them, sliced my hand, and tossed them with Miracle Whip and scallions. Sitting over night in the fridge, the result was a liquid dressing a bit like ranch.

If you ever want to find a new home for the bowl the cucumbers were in while you were making the dressing...please let me know! I have the smaller bowls still as our last move my larger bowl got broken.
Absolutely, but just be controlled, cucumber is a very delicate taste and it would not take too much hot sauce to over power it. That is why we like Chrystal Hot Sauce, mild enough to not over power, but a good vinegar taste to spice things up 🍸🍸
I would agree if I were using regular cucumbers, but I'm using the English variety that is sweeter and has a very thin skin. But you can absolutely peel them if you prefer. Thanks for watching!

Great
Try either type with approx. 2 cups sungold tomatos ( homegrown. not grocery store ) added just before serving.
Great idea. Thanks for watching!

Why would your neighbors care if you eat ham? Even if they don't (for religious or health reasons), I'm sure they are OK with whatever you eat.
Think the comment was more rhetorically made, than anything else.
@@lcuco2473 actually, rhetorically speaking, the comment was not rhetorical.
@@pettytoni1955 actually, we can agree to disagree!

Can I somehow spice this up a bit, maybe a few drops of hot sauce?

Peal those cucumbers first to get rid of that lousy bitter flavor!

I watched another video talking about only needing to peel the non-English variety. I have never done this. Should I be doing this....?
