- What is Honda VTEC ( Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control ) ?
What is VTC ( Variable Timing Control ) or VVT ( Variable Valve Lift ) ?
They are actually two different technologies that are used to make an engine more efficient. It doesn't matter how many pistons the engine has, these two systems can improve them. Here's my simple explanation.

Great video and explanation .
I must say I never knew or care to know much about Toyota's version of it, but, this just gave me a simple example to understand the basic concept of it.
Good stuff, well put and to the point. Learned something today👍
You're welcome.

Thank you for this video. It was very informative and I finally understand vtec. I'm more interested in big v8s or diesels but I have always been curious about this.
Very informative. All this time I thought Honda's VTEC is a type of VVT. Thanks for this. Keep it up.
You're welcome.

great video for understanding. I understand alot better. Had a friend dorm mate teach me what vtec vs VVT and it was hard af without any drawings or videos to do so. People that only talkg about it don't actually give much understanding other than what they know.
Im a truck guy... And i use to hate on hondas and thought vtec didint mean anything... But you gave me some good insites. I have a lot more respect for vtec now.
Glad to have helped.
I love the metallic roar when Vtec is on

Hello, I am very grateful for your content and easy and useful clarification. Can I ask you about the Honda 3.5 engine? I have a Honda Accord V6 Coupe. How do I activate the VTech VT in order to make the most of my engine performance? Thank you.
I liked AND SUBSCRIBED. Im a young and soon to be driving car enthusiast and enjoy the crap out of Hondas. Thanks for the info
Tommy Khong Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it. I hope to bring more educational content out for everyone to enjoy!
My man here looks like Jacky Chan
Yeah I’m learning 😆🙌🏽👌🏽
Damn bro god video!
+The AMG Boss Thanks!
Good video bro
Thanks
thanks man now i know what vtec is all about
IVTEC is vvt and vvl combined. Vtec is just vvl. Great videos man. Quality creative content!
Devil HimSelf Thanks for the compliment.
A correction. The acronyms below describe the same function. There is a low lift cam which transitions to a high lift cam (or vice versa):
-VTEC = Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control
-VVL = Variable Valve Lift
IVTEC incorporates VTEC/VVT/VVL (same thing) and VTC (Variable Timing Control)/VVT (Variable Valve Timing)
GT Content thanks for the insight, btw that k24a2 is a great engine you have, my brother had a 04 tsx and it had 340xxx miles when he sold it with the proper maintenance they will never fail, as far as i know the guy who bought it hasn't had any problems.
Devil HimSelf I agree. It's a great engine and has been reliable. No complaints.
GT Content Can you modify 2018 Toyota Camry naturally asperated engine to V-TEC? Just a newbie.
No
Thanks for clarifying A lot of people out there think that they get more power and they can smoke any car out there just because they have Vtec
Frankcisco Monterrosa Not sure if you were confused. I have a dynochart at 1:00 comparing a non-VTEC vs VTEC engine. The transition to the higher cam lobe increased power in the higher rpms as well as increased the redline.
thank you so much👍
YW!
well said.thanks buddy😊
You're welcome
Nice
Good info I am a diesel guy I watched a ricer wannabe thang. Lol kinda simple thank you and very very good job on the editing I wish I could edit like yiu
thanks Mr. Gt
You're welcome
I have the same K24a2 swapped into my FG2 :) except its from an '07 TSX, gonna turbo it soon with a GTX3076r god willing :), such a fun motor, perfect amount of torque for the FG2 (until I turbo it)
Très bien expliqué. Mais encore aprés tous ce jolie matériel, il y a le K20.... et encore au dessus le soleil haha
Thanks ;)
Love my 16 years old accord k24a3!!
I love Japanese engineering. I'm thinking of getting a 2010 civic 1.8 with the i-vtec. I had a ford probe 2.0 with the Mazda unit and I currently have a 2008 mk4 mondeo 2.0 duratec again another Mazda unit with the camchain. it's currently done 164,000 miles and is still smooth and quiet. a lot of civic owners reporting good fuel economy with that 1.8 engine!
Awesome
+Yousof Mohd 😁
Nicer😍😍👌✌
+Angel Lopez 😁
Wow I have never click subscribe button this fast before
Awesome!
Every raicer knows that VTEC stands for Very Tall Engine Cooling.

Kyle Mickuykendal I don't believe so. What was not covered?
I love my 94 GSR!

Can you do vid on twincam pls
the toyota 2zz-ge VVTLI from last Celica have both technologies?
I liked 😂
+HIMT OFFICIAL Thanks😁
FYI, your vtec cracks at 5,000rpm for lower engagement, 6,000rpm for upper.
Basically, from 5000-6000rpm, you switch to high cams if you're on the throttle enough, and beyond 6000, you always switch to high cams.
Love your channel. You are very knowledgeable. Just curious what do you do for a living? Are you an engineer?
Thanks! You are correct, Engineer.
I am doing mechanical engineering but the concepts of japnese cars engines is far far better and ahead of time. German cars too have the great technology but they charge much more than that. That's why japnese rules the world.😊
Idk what tf i just watched but imma subscribe anyway
how about mitsubishi's mivec? is it the same as how vtec works?
Bro, need a suggestion, i m planning to pick up 1st gen 2002 honda city, 1.5 Exi with decent engine in 2020 now, is it a good idea? Wat could be the worst case scenario i might end up facing?
Best vid explanation Thanks for this
first I had a honda civic ek4 1997.
when the vtec came in, I was torn from the seat and felt a strong tear.
fantastic!!! the noise also changed. the car and the muffler all original.
now I have an accord 2007 2.4 tipes. and when the vtec comes in, there is almost nothing. no tearing, no noise, only slightly, but slightly increased. I could not try other tunings to see if it's normal. why? ;)
why my new honda do not you feel the ivtec come in ?? we do not hear much.
does the 2014 honda civic have vtech or is it dohc with vtech technology?
awesome! And very clear. understood in 10 secs
Scuderia's Legend Glad it was clear!
I have the same car and going to reflash it next week, 6k rpm is waaaay to high to be usable, especially in a manual like mine. Here in Europe it costs around 350-400 dollars to reflash, not that much for a 9-10hp gain up in the range and 30 hp gain in the mid-range. There is no way of telling that the car has been reflashed, no errors, no check engine, cruise control still works, etc...
Actuating the valves via solanoids is happening now & will make the combustion eng a whole new ball game
Plus the adjustment of comp ratio through oil press ajustable conrods ohhh yeah
Great video! I still have a question that has not been confirmed by any video I watched on this topic, The VTC, is it progressive? or lets say do you have various conditions or degrees of VTC? or is it a ON / OFF thing?
Thanks! To answer your question, the VTC is set for various degrees of operation. It's not an on and off thing. I'm more of a visual learner, so I'll make a video explaining this.
Thank you. I have been looking for the answer for some time now. Great channel btw!! =]
so the drive shaft with vitec increses RPM while the VTC decreases.
What's the name for the background music?
So how is a porsche different? Is one superior to the other?
Damn I miss my 5th gen. prelude after watching this.
