  • BAL X-Chock | Product Review | Lightweight Mechanical Chock for stabilizing your trailer or RV. In this episode we take a look at the BAL x chocks and how they work to stabilize and lock up your trailer.
    Standard X Chock Pair - amzn.to/2jLge1c
    Single X Chock amzn.to/2kMwY5N
    Extended 17” wide X Chock amzn.to/2kL44aj
    The x chocks are a mechanical chock designed to stabilize your RV or trailer and prevent unwanted forward and backward movement. The chocks expand out mechanically with a simple ratchet and prevent the tires from moving. This prevents lots of movement when walking around and also takes pressure off the jacks from all the wobbling. The ckocks are designed to stabilize but not to prevent rollaway. The literature specifically states they are not to be used as a parking brake so you are still going to need a basic wheel chock when on hills. We have been using this product for years and have really enjoyed it. If we forget to but them in you can immediately notice the difference. One drawback to the chocks is that they have lots of moving parts and can easily pinch you if you get your finger in the wrong place. The chocks are designed for tires 2-10” apart although a wider 17” model is available as well and is listed in the description above. Overall we have been very happy with these chocks and would recommend them to anyone who uses an RV or tandem axle trailer that wants to provide extra stabilization and minimize movement.

    I've been using these for the last three years, still working well. An added benefit is that they will hold your tire covers in place in high winds.

    This channel 'spin-off' is an excellent idea!!! I subscribed and have watched what you have so far. Looking forward to more video tests and reviews. I will be buying a set of these myself. We've been using the Camco plastic - similar idea type, locking the tires, but these look to be not only more secure but I like the locking ability. Thanks!

    Thanks for the clear review based on real world experience with these chocks. I just ordered as set from Amazon using your link, and actually found a pair through Amazon Warehouse. So I saved a few extra dollars, and hopefully you'll get a few too.
    Looking forward to more reviews from this great group of actual users.

    Very nice Good Year G614 14 ply tires. None better. I have them as well mounted on Alcoa Classic wheels on my equipment trailer. Watch out on amazon, they went on sale last fall for about 170 each, but didn't last long at that price.

      Agreed, they are great tires. Spendy most of the time (unless you catch an amazing sale) but totally worth it. I think this is the first set I will actually wear through the tread before they age out. Will probably then re-grove them since you can do that too. Great tires.

    I have these!! Going to ask a beginner question. How can I put a paddle lock on these? and what type of oil/greece do I use?

    Yikes, once I listened to the whole video I never knew you should still use blocks too. Ops!! And keep greased. Good thing I watched this. Very informative.

      As long as your not too uneven or a smaller trailer they will help hold the trailer but they can put a lot of stress on the axles if trying to stop a trailer from rolling. That's when additional chocks should be used.

    I have these and love them, I use them with my cordless drill and the jack adapter. Do you use regular wheel chocks as well with these?

    • @RoadGearReviews
      @RoadGearReviews  7 лет назад +1

      That's a great idea using them with the drill, That would make tightening them easy. It depends on the terrain, If its really steep we do insert normal chocks and roll against them first. If flat then no, we just use the x chocks.

  • @ChrisRI1000

    I think they are a great idea but I've always wondered if the side pressure on the axels might be a concern. Obviously it wouldn't if you didn't tighten them up too much. But is it possible to crank them to the point where someone could exceed the load capacity of the axels?

    • @TheCrazyPlace
      @TheCrazyPlace 5 лет назад

      I've always thought that also, but that would be some serious pressure. Just think what those axles are doing when rolling down a bumpy highway at 65mph.

  • @cbkb983

    What about the newer trailers? My axles are a lot wider than the older ones? At least 5-6 inches apart.

    • @RoadGearReviews
      @RoadGearReviews  7 лет назад

      The standard size should work for tires up to 10 inches just fine, but they do make the xtended version for 10-17 inch gaps
