When guests brings food it is just so special I think, it's so personal and thoughtful! Not that fragrances and such gifts aren't special but there's something about giving someone food that is just heart warming
Delta, as a real estate agent, I can tell you the only criteria landlords can consider to rent to someone is credit history and rental history. if you feel both of those are in line, you should reach out and file a fair housing claim
I had the same thought. Especially if Delta is writing about her work and providing pictures of her partner, etc. This just gives bigots an excuse to discriminate.

I agree about renting and the whole mess that is. One thing that started becoming popular in Seattle while I was living there was asking the apartment managers for references. It sounds a little weird at first, but just like how they ask renters for references, renters started asking the property owners/managers for references that they could call/email to see if they are good owners/managers. At first, I was a little apprehensive about it. But after my first renting experience being a nightmare, I decided to jump on the bandwagon and start asking them for references. And it made the process of making my decision so much easier. I knew it wasn’t going to be a good place if the owners/managers would refuse to give me references or even if they did give me references but gave me a hard time for it and acted like I was crazy for asking. And the ones who gave me the references right away no questions asked made me feel much more confident about how they treat their property and tenants. I really think this should become a thing everywhere, but I’m glad it’s starting to pop up.

In response to the application fee scam: I remember here in Chicago going to a showing for an apartment…to then find a line of 8 groups who’ve seen the unit…after a few minutes of showing me the unit they said “okay go over to this desk and it’s a $40 application fee”. They literally had a conga line of applications, you think I’m going to waste that money. I booked it out of there. There should be laws to prohibit this.
I was condo hunting with my sister this weekend. Zillow is the work of satan. It’s 100% a racket.

Delta! I too am a Zillow dreamer and I had no idea that this was the reality of the rental process ... and probably the purchase process as well ... Thank you for shedding light on yet another scam. The dream is shattered and I thank you for pulling me out of the clouds. Zillow you done messed up now ... Good luck with those application fees going forward!
One time I went to drive by a house for rent that I found on zillow and it was not even there! The listing was a scam- they said if i sent them money they would give the code to view the property.
Now I ALWAYS go look at the house/property before reaching out to the "listing agent" or "owner". ❤

You are so right! There should be an agency that finds people rentals!!! You are so right! After covid hit, I was forced to move out of my rental because the price skyrocketed due to demand for people wanting to all of a sudden live in Maine (our low covid numbers). I tried craigslist, Zillow, everything I could find. Ended up having to move back in with my parents in Florida! because there was no way I could afford my old life anymore.

Omg thanks for opening this topic, it’s so important people to be aware of them scams! My friend got scammed 20k with a fake listing on one of them apps. Lucky she took fast action and manage to get them back in a few days. Scammers are out there kids, be careful! Happy holidays everyone ❤
Delta, I am a 72 year old , trans broad, and rent is rediculous!!! If I wasn't on section eight I couldn't pay my rent, and my portion of the rent keeps getting increased.. I've recently had to get food stamps, or starve half of the month .. I would love to get into the apartment building next to where I am, the rent would be much lower, since its a studio, It would be nearly half of what I pay for a one bedroom apartment that was built in the sixties, in a crime filled area , with homeless, mental patient's doing all kinds of stuff !!! I'm 72 and disabled , and I live in some fear, of course I don't and won't walk in fear , to do so would make me a easy mark, and just because of my age and small body does that enough .. I sure wish the Government would do more for the elderly that want to be on their own, but they don't .. but , they would pay to house us away in places unfit for a bug , before doing the correct thing .. I hope when they get old and life has dealt them a bad card , they will get the same treatment we have ..I Love You and keep up the Good work .. expose the lot of them !! ❤🎉

I recently submitted an application for a rental in LA in Los Feliz, luckily the only application I submitted actually got approved, but finding an apartment in LA is so difficult... I ended up paying way more than I wanted to but at least I have a place.

Delta!!! Do NOT ever send in a photo of you or your family for a rental application! They are doing it to get around discrimination laws so that they don't have to ask you your family status/race/sexuality/etc! It's not a nice gesture! This is also the reason you will not get a response re: what you can do to be a more competitive applicant - you don't know what they've considered and they don't want to reveal any potential discriminatory intent.

I’m a property manager for a small property in Long Beach and its illegal for them to keep the money if they haven’t run the credit checks. Check every time or absolutely demand your app fees back. Too many soulless dickheads out there scamming and stealing from people that are just looking for a place to live. It’s sick.:(
Yes there’s a scam here in Miami where people show you a vacant apartment and collect a 50$ fee with no intention of ever renting the place out!!

Also we’ve got shitheads that will rent ACTUAL OFFICE SPACE to get people to give them hundreds of dollars with the promise that they will get them approved for a place. They prey on people with credit issues and first time renters mostly. Large management companies want an insane credit score to approve anyone these days even if the person has spectacular rental history.

The rant is very similar to recruiting practice these days. One thing I learned as a Recruiting Coordinator for a FAANG company is to not give feedback as you risk a lawsuit if something said was in anyway illegal, biased, taken out of context, or upsetting by mistake. I've seen this happen to people giving honest feedback to candidates and in your case probably home buyers too. Especially in America everyone is trigger happy to sue.
How about putting a complaint in with the BBB, the Better Business Bureau.
