A world leading team of ultra-low temperature physicists at Lancaster University decided to place a LEGO figure and four LEGO blocks inside their record-breaking dilution refrigerator.
This machine - specially made at the University - is the most effective refrigerator in the world, capable of reaching 1.6 millidegrees above absolute zero (minus 273.15 Centigrade), which is about 200,000 times colder than room temperature and 2,000 times colder than deep space.
This research was lead by Low Temperature Physicist Dr. Dmitry Zmeev:

5:05 What was that sound!!! Ahh yay!!
The inner child jumping for joy!
Dude, well produced! The seconds of animation made me jump for joy and reminisce on the old days.
That was pretty interesting, pretty unique as well. Well done!
Lego and Physics? I'm in!
That was quite an informative video.
I can see why this film won awards. Its great!
Proving once again LEGO is top quality.
I just listened to your interview on the podcast "Physics World Stories" and I have to echo Andrew by saying, "this is really cool!"

Makes T-1000 out of Lego.
I've stepped on many a lego, can confirm they withstand a lot of weight.
Have any history buffs noticed George Picket
Awesome vid! You now hold the world record for coldest LEGO figure and brick!
Casual link to a nature paper. That is brickin' cool. Well done to all involved.
Wowza we get to meet the man himself
Read the paper yesterday, and while the math is a bit beyond me, you did a great job explaining your findings and I found it fascinating. Has anyone sent this to the LEGO company yet?
good!!ruclips.net/video/BAfM4bZxmoc/видео.html
Man i didn't know that lego can with stand -459.6628°F did lego use some kind of alien tech when making them? Because this has colored me impressed
I've done this before. I filled up a gas station roof from a toy with water and put a minifigure in it. I then put it in the freezer
Damn this was really good
Came here from Physics World, was not disappointed, at least a 10/10 video (but most likely higher).
Wow you went far out for this video!
Way to go combining both of your (and my) interests like this! I loved this video
I’m still trying to figure out how that minifig didn’t explode, or shrink, or expand or something ! This was really well done ! Keep up the good work !
@Maxx Kroes I guess thats true
It would be interesting to hear if / how the structure of the LEGO bricks changed with exposure to such cold temps.
Great video!! Thank you for sharing it.
Brilliant! Well done! That was both fun and informative.
I just dropped my phone on the floor and this started to play
3:57 your endowment at work lol
Hope you’ll come back this summer/autumn with a lego animation
Thanks! This video is awesome.
Awesome video
How does this not have that low of views
poor fellow Lego, after all you've done to him, he pooped up at 7:33
I KNEW it wasn’t a good idea to unsubscribe.
Yay your back!!
Remember Rob's bad day.
Hey can u make a lego police chase part 4? I love the police chase videos!
This is great, but when, may I ask, will you get back to full length animated videos?
It's great!
Thanks for the Video
Thats awsome
Omg wow
very nice video👍!
I'm a long time subscriber!
This was good
I’m sad About Tony Guenault
Wait. This is even new at all!
Nice video
Good video
You're the best
sooooo coooool ))
My dad thought this video was very informative! (And I did 2)
I came here trying to figure out what happen with the plastic in Lego if freezing it for two weeks in -18 degrees celsius. Need to kill of carpet bugs that had established an 80-larva base in an open box of lego that had collected dust (which they love since dust inside a home is 80-90% dead human skin cells). The idea is to freeze the 4 square decimeter lego box for two weeks in -18 degrees C and kill the bugs off and prevent their plans of world domination.
I guess I got the answer and -18 will not damage the plastic at all. Or? ^^
🥶
Has anyone tried to observe light under these conditions? Since light exhibits properties of both waves and particles, I would posit a la Walter Bishop that any particle characteristics of light would experience behavioral changes at these low temperatures and these changes might be observable.
I thought the Kelvin scale had something to do with StarTrek.
We have all been tricked by the title.
In a good way.
i want the new lego movie now
Can you make more behind the scenes videos
Cool
are you gonna make more pirate videos
Holy shit 😵
So what you’re saying is that we could make spaceships out of Lego?
WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
New upload?!?!
Nice
it took almost 8 minutes to get to the actual point lol
Where were you??
Was it not more easy to drop it some liquid nitrogen ? Wich is also very cold 😃
We did! 2:46. Liquid nitrogen is much warmer than what we've achieved though.
@@DimaZmeev
ow yes i missed it
how much can this fridge achieve in celcius :)
and how much is liquid nitrogen actually ?
and i wonder this machine uses Liquid nitrogen ? but what does it actually do to get even colder ?
@@HappyDude1 Absolute scale of temperature (kelvins) makes a lot more sense when talking about low temperatures. Liquid nitrogen is 77 K, while the fridge was at 0.004 K.
@@HappyDude1 it's difficult to describe the operation of the dilution refrigerator in a couple of sentences or in a short video.
Imagine not going to LRGS
0 K is unattainable
I have tried it
but the new lego movie where is it
Still not as cold as my ex's heart
Can I have that Lego?
This is the moment we lose to Chinese...
I uploaded new videos that with the quarantine you have time
Absolute zero yay
Roses are red
Violets are blue
I have 1 like
But why is it blue?
0:47 "Actually, you can get a thousand times colder than outer space here on Earth. And for that, we need to go somewhere very special."

But ... no
100th comment
First
Fake the temperature can only get -250 degrees
What are you talking about, I work with the ULT group as part of my masters and regularly exceed that temperature thrice a week.
