    Why would Honda tie a boat anchor like Nissan around its' neck?

    • @MisterMonsieur
      @MisterMonsieur 4 дня назад +19

      Nissan isn't the "anchor," its Renault. Nissan has a real legacy and marketshare, but suffers from Renault's bad managers.

      Also, NISSAN means "MADE In Japan" and it has a very cultural patriotic pride symbol for the people of Japan. Their merger with Renault really messed up Nissan's image. Honda may saved Nissan's image n it will now be Japan company owned.

  • @anydaynow01
    @anydaynow01 4 дня назад +2

    The Volt powered the wheels directly at highway speeds with the ICE when it's most efficient to do so instead of using it as a motor generator when in hybrid mode, in EV mode the ICE never comes on unless the fuel age computer or engine maintenance mode kicked in (just idles the engine for a few minutes to warm and circulate oil if the ICE wasn't used for several months). There was also a winter heating mode that could be selected where the ICE was decoupled and idled at around freezing temperatures and below to warm the cabin to save electricity for actual driving, this also counted towards the maintenance mode "countdown timer".
    I agreed the Honda system is indeed suspiciously extremely similar (good thing) to the Voltec system, with Toyota's hybrid success GM dropped the ball in not taking advantage of scale when launching it. Few folks wanted a $45k "Cruze" (~cost in 2024 money), but a Voltec Yukon or Escalade would have sold much better especially if it had a >40 mile EV range.

    now things are changing cause if catl jumps into the swapping battery market it becomes serious.
    Cars become 4000 $ cheaper based on western ev car battery cost per kWh. If they didnt do it know the swapping would have had no chance at the current pace of charging time decrease. I was sceptical with nio, but they succeeded in china even though it is much easier there when there is no competition cause chargers are limited to 100 kW by law.
    Nio is close to not existant sales wise in germany after over 3 years . swapping centers are there but rather rare .
    With sales of 100 vehicles - a year or so - not much growth for the amount stations to be expected

    The funny thing is, Honda has a _really_ great BEV in the 'Honda E'. If only Honda would make it a 'world wide' car and (in turn) reduce the price, they'd be on to a winner! Think GM Chevy Bolt, but on a global basis. Instead, the Chinese have caught on to this, in particular MG with the MG4 and BYD with the Seagull. Honda could be a GLOBAL competitor if they just 'globalised' ONE car. Eh.

    internal arrangement between parties (not devulge to the public ) were highly beneficial to both keeping their loyal respective market alive re-igniting their so called friendly "brand rivalry"!
