    A couple of years ago I bought one of these kits for my daughter, hoping to get her interested in this sort of thing. It was a more primitive version of this kit, wires instead of connectorized cables. My daughter never did anything more than look at the box. Then my company handed me a project that utilized an Arduino, and I decided I needed to learn a lot about it fast. I reclaimed this kit and built it myself. There were assembly instruction errors, but debugging them just helped me learn more. I got it working and discovered that the provided code worked but begged for improvement, so I got coding. Eventually, in obstacle avoidance mode, the car could navigate my dog-leg hallway and return, avoiding oblique collisions with the walls that stymied the original code. In IR control mode I put in a dance move that freaked my dog. In the end I added Arduino fluency to my skill set and I am still making test fixtures for my company utilizing the Arduino. I wish I had gained this skill years ago.

      @@HBPowerwall That is probably because they ran out of challenges to keep them interested. One challenge I came up with would be to set up a simple maze with boxes or something and try to program to navigate that maze. Or, better yet, get them an Elegoo Arduino Starter Kit, under $40, and let them experiment with different sensors and motors and stuff. Search RUclips for "Arduino DIY" and pick some interesting projects. I feel like Arduino skills go naturally with most STEM fields, the skill will never hurt you.

      To be honest I expected this to be the below average rubbish toy but as you can see the real effort was put into it. All the instructions were on point and when I came unstuck (i then read the instructions) it was as clear as day I should've done that in the first place lol

    Is there any over discharge protection on this thing? Can't see any... Amusingly I've recently made my own version of this with virtually identical parts, so I can use their tutorials and code :)

    Hi. We are considering this kit for a school project and wonder if it has rubber or hard plastic tires. Thanks!

    • @HBPowerwall
      @HBPowerwall  4 года назад

      They have like a soft rubber tyre, but not air filled. I can press my finger into tyre and it depresses under a light touch.

      @@HBPowerwall Thanks, that's very helpful. I wonder if you'd measure the top of the car. We are wanting to mount an arm to it. This will help us choose one with a base that fits onto it.

    The L298n data sheet only shows two motor capabilities. How does the elegoo one do 4?
    Mine also didn't come in that nice plastic box. :'(

    • @HBPowerwall
      @HBPowerwall  4 года назад

      Does it have two of them? I"m not too sure havn't looked at the device since the video! Maybe cost cutting - box wouldn't be cheap, many did buy it and came in the plastic box

    • @Fr0ntSight
      @Fr0ntSight 4 года назад

      @@HBPowerwall I'm still not sure about that data sheet but per Elegoo they did indeed stop using the plastic for cost savings unfortunately.

    After HOURS of looking through robot kits and reviews,etc, I am LITERALLY beside myself...
    DUMBFOUNDED...
    SHOCKED AND CONFUSED...
    I can buy ANY 20$ remote control toy...
    Who on God's green earth is spending time and money to build what in essence is a remote control car?
    What is a robot these days?
    This was a cool vid - I'm not knocking ya...
    But it so happens, after TONS of videos, I'm writing here.
    I'm just weirded out.
    Most people who build 'a robot' want a ROBOT that is basically an autonomous (or even slightly so) creature.
    We want to build something we DONT control.
    Something even as lifelike as a BUG or MOUSE.
    IF I want a remote control car I'll go to a discount store.

    • @HBPowerwall

      Hey it was a product for review, did a build video and kinda enjoyed the experience - its been sitting on the shelf ever since..

  • @justjordan8018
    @justjordan8018 3 года назад

    Ha so basically any crappy remote control car is better for a kid. I was trying to convince my nephew this was a much superior robot then the one that can dance and play music... by the time the kid might be able to program it it would probably be allowed to play video games meh.

    • @HBPowerwall
      @HBPowerwall  3 года назад

      I'm sure this isn't designed for 'kids' parsay... young adults wanting to get into this type of thing it's ideally suited as you can do your own programs for it.
