    I rarely save videos but this one is probably the MOST useful tutorial ever. I love how Eugene emphasizes that your success heavily depends on your approach and attitude. I'm going to re-watch this video again and again when I feel down. I only regret I didn't find this video earlier.
    Thank you Eugene

      how did it go 1 year after?

    • @SereJJa
      @SereJJa 4 года назад +9

      @@PossessWithin I would say it went great and still goes :) Since last year I'm practicing almost daily and I completely rethought the way I practice thanks to this video. To give you some backstory I play drums since 2007 but I never practiced correctly, maybe just when I started I spend some time with a practice pad getting some basics done. In fact, since 2012 and till I watched this video I only "practiced" when I had rehearsals with my band 2 times a week. This resulted in a lot of things getting memorized incorrectly, having bad technique, having knee and elbow pains sometimes. Bad shit to be honest. Now I have to fight some ancient muscle memory and the most difficult part was to take a huge step back and starting a lot of things from scratch.
      Basically this video gave me the impulse to find time for practicing and made me realize that it is more efficient and better to work 10-20 minutes on something in particular (like "wrist motion" or "swivel technique" or "paradiddle" or whatever you want to improve) instead of just playing 2 hours straight with your band without ever realizing where your flaws are. Don't get me wrong - band rehearsals are important too, but you don't grow much as a drummer by just playing with your band and you also need to focus on your technique and experiment and that's where this kind of practice system gets extremely useful

    "only at 250 bpm"

  • @nenissaK
    @nenissaK 7 лет назад +97

    Couple notes to everyone:
    pay attention to how relaxed his hands are when he's playing; he's using only "one or two" muscles at a time and the rest are relaxed and not used; that way the hand is jiggling around visibly when he's playing. That's an important notion when you practice - think about wet spaghetti when you're doing anything that has something to do with speed. That way you'll pay more attention to your technique.
    Also if something feels really tight or painful from the beginning, stop, play at a slightly slower tempo (without the metronome) for a minute ONE HAND AT A TIME and WATCH what your hands are doing, then do the same for the other hand. Then try again, and start relatively quietly - not all out straight from the start.

    These are seriously some of the most clear and concise drum lessons I've ever seen. Do you think you could make a tutorial on how to learn complex songs? I don't know if you do this very much but I've been finding it hard to learn songs by ear if they are more complex like animals as leaders or between the buried and me. If I don't have access to sheet music I find it extremely hard to figure the minute and less straightforward things the drums are doing. Thank you very much for these lessons, they are the best I've seen.

      I've been at it since the 8/1/18. I have seen great progress already. Been playing drums since 1999 and my left hand is still so awkward. I still can only do 245bpm with the left hand for 2 measures. Right hand can do much higher.

    I've realised how much I practice...and it's nowhere near enough and too imprecise.Thank you for this video!! It's made me wake up and realise I've just been meandering and trying to look for short cuts(Moeller vs Open Close etc) instead of focusing on practicing correctly AND consistently.Real eye opener..Subscribed !!

    After watching your tutorials i started rethinking my practise routines and ways to learn to techniques, and never realised how resting the muscles is important. Couple of months have passed and came up with my own ways based on your routine, even thou my goal in speed is not that extreme but still, and have been making a lot of progress :) Hope to be able to see you with Fleshgod in October in Portugal!

    Eugene, I had to learn all the muscles in the body and their attachments/motions, and I must say that your drum tutorials are the most detailed and effective for improve that I have ever seen. I had to work on assisting athletes to improve their skills or rehabilitation after injury and no one I have seen provides the systematic approach to drumming form and function that have clearly implemented while being able to articulate it to others. In the beginning, I was unable to implement a perfect routine for myself because I was unsure which motions and want muscle memory would provide the most beneficial impact on technique however, now, after watching your videos I have a much better idea. Thank you!

    Hey
    Eugene, Just found your videos today and really appreciate your efforts and teaching style. Straight forward, No B.S. and you seem to be down to earth unlike some of the fart smellers out there that come off pretentious and tough to watch and subsequently learn from. Thank you my friend , I have subscribed!!
