    As double bass playing becomes more common among all genres of music (not just metal!), we figured this lesson would be useful for drummers looking to improve their coordination and overall control with their pedals - whether you're advanced or just picking one up!
    Want to spice things up? Try adding quintuplets (groups of 5) and septuplets (groups of 7) to the note value exercise! Good luck!

    Getting fast with double bass it’s just of matter of constant repetition. After so much practice, you’ll be able to separate the hands from the feet and play those sweet Polly rhythms, I wish every teacher will admit that your gonna need over 1000 hours of practice just to sound right.
    Just practice!!!!
    While your struggling drumming your ass off your friends are all out having fun, but then you’ll blow them away with the skills trust me

      Dude, man I need serious help, aside from the fact that i got to pro alpy get a rug under my entire setup to keep it from sliding, I want to be able to do triple strokes w each foot, interlaced, I guess it would be similar to heel toe, I v play heal down my whole practice "career", but didn't play for a while, like ten years, is there a way to skip the whole, double stroke, heel toe, deal, and get to fast interspliced triplets, "foot muller", I like the the thrown stability that heal down offers too. BEST wishes...

      Volume isn’t enough; you have to practice the right way. Practice makes permanent, not perfect.

    No matter what exercise I look at, there's always this physical barrier keeping me from getting to the speeds I desire. I thought practice and muscle memory would be the hardest, but it's definitely the patience and/or perseverance that's the hardest to get through.

      Nothing sucks more than being an established single pedal player and then deciding to try and get good at double pedal. It’s like sucking at drums all over again, relearning the instrument as if I never learned it to begin with.

    Really helpful lesson
    . If I can add to the second exersise: When you reach the 32nd notes, instead of returning right to the begining, try to decend the note scale. Like this: 4 - 8 - 8/3 - 16 -16/3 - 32 - 16/3 - 16 - 8/3 - 8 - 4. This way you are getting used to not only accelerating the speed but to slowing it down as well and it is really helpful.
    Cheers!

    Great video! I just want to add one thing: leg exercises, off the kit. Especially calf raises. Before I sit down to practice I grab a 20lb dumbbell, do 20 calf raises (hold each rep up top for 2-3 seconds), then I do 20 more as fast as I comfortably can. After that try them one leg at a time while bending your knee at the top of each rep (feels like running in place but your toes don’t leave the ground). To end it, do 20 more, one leg at a time starting each rep on your toes (instead of heel to toe, you’ll be going toe to heel). If you do them right you will definitely feel it by the end, add or remove weight, or adjust the number of reps as needed. It’s a good idea to stretch first. If you go to the gym don’t skip leg day. This has helped my drumming in so many ways. It improves balance, coordination, strength, endurance, and speed. Another good one if you still need to work on isolating your calves is to sit on your throne (away from the pedals), lift your heels a couple inches above the ground and do sixteenths with your feet for however long you want.

    This lesson has helped me more than anything else. Can I ask someone to explain why heel up may be better for t double bass drum techniques? Or if this is true? Thank you!

    • @Abandoned978
      @Abandoned978 5 лет назад

      George Kollias of Nile actually said that while Heel up has speed, Heel down has control. He then combined the two into a single foot technique called modern heel up. While you set your foot lower, you still have your heel off of the base plate. This allows a perfect balance between speed and control. However, if you want to go fast enough to give Adam Muraszko a run for his money, you should learn the swivel technique.

    I would strongly encourage people to reverse the order of the note scale progression to better improve their accuracy with both feet, In other words, do the right foot/left foot stuff first, then the incremental double bass patterns with both feet. This makes for a great warm up.
    Each to their own of course, but I find concentrating on warming up individual limbs to be much better that trying to do everything at once.

    • @lucaswedderburn
      @lucaswedderburn 8 месяцев назад

      I think some hi hat pedals have an option to lock it in place while you use double kick. Cool technology but also gives you something else to think about while playing if you want the open hat, I think some players also have two pairs of hats for that variety.
