This is on Boone. If he had control of the team, Cole would not be making decisions like this on his own. If they game-planned it, and Cole misunderstood the situation, that’s on the manager. Communication is the responsibility of the manager. Period. End of story.

To me, the worst aspect of the Cole IBB was that Devers has been awful lately...injured, tired, in a slump, a mix of everything. He's likely to get him out no matter what because that's how baseball works, even if you hit .400 off a guy, obviously. We all know Devers owns him. But to not know how he has been playing, and in a no-hit game, are you kidding me!? I still can't comprehend it.

First of all, I thought only the manger can call an intentional walk, Secondly, if Devers has an (approximately) .357 batting average against Cole that means he still gets Devers out over 60% of the time, in addition to the 15 strikeouts. Gerrit Cole is mentally weak. I don't care how skilled he is, that has nothing to do with what I am saying. He is a front runner, meaning if he is not in front he cannot handle the pressure. If the Yanks are out of it he wins Cy Youngs, but when we are in the hunt he falls apart. Call it overthinking, that works. Whatever it is, it will hold us back when the game is on the line.
And again, I expect a well run team to help players like Cole bring their potential to fruition. The Yankees are sorely lacking in that type of leadership, and therefore incapable of developing their players the way an elite team is required to.

@@jdl1986now great for Jacob degrom. We will enjoy watching coles hall of fame speech when he retires. Too bad you can't say that for deGrom.
Bet the rangers love that they've given Degrom 180 million and he's pitched a total of 7 games for them.
So you can take Degrom and his "guts". I'll take a pitcher who can stay on the field and doesn't rob a team.

@@jdl1986now no ones deflecting. You're talking up a pitcher who was great for 4 seasons and couldnt stay healthy after that over a guy who actually has had longevity.
I'll take the guy who has had the long career and who's going to make the hall of fame.
Who will be more remembered down the road cole or Degrom? Guys like Degrom are forgotten about in 20 years.
And you do what your manager tells you to do whether you agree with it or not. If you ever played a sport you'd know that.

@@jdl1986now btw I looked it up and Degrom has 13 intentional passes for his career.
One of them to Freddie freeman in the third inning of a game. So so much for your little theory there.

@@BB-rm3xi Do you understand what "talking up" means? I don't think so. And, again, deGrom would not have done that back in his heyday, especially with no one on base. It's a wimpy move. That's why the other dugout was yelling at Cole and pointing that out.
