Hey, thank you for your videos, you're of great help!
I work in a pediatric ward so almost always draw capillary blood samples. Do you have any advice about them and some reference values because I often in a struggle trying to decide what exactly is hypoxemia with capillary blood gas?
Hi! You mention about Sao2 and determining based of that, can you explain more how to deferentiate abg vs vbg based on sao2?
“Stop calling it mixed!” AMEN!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Nice! Thank you for this. This makes a lof of sense to me now!
Cool, Michelle. Glad it makes sense. I thank you for watching and commenting!
@@RespiratoryCoach you are very welcome and you just gained another subscriber! Thank you for making these helpful videos! 🙂
Thank you bro! I am a nurse and had a patient who overdosed on ASA and we were drawing VBG. Had to research to see coz values were low. We were never thought in nursing school that there’s a difference
thx it was an awossssssom expl thx from riyo dganaro
Wonderful explanation! Thank you so much!
Learned a lot from you. I'm about to take my TMC exam. I request clinical simulation exercises.
Awesome, go kick the TMC's butt!!!
Thank you! This is awesome.
Thanks for watching!
Great vidio as always gives a lot information
Please what is the differenc in lactic acid level in abg vs vbg
"it's venous or arterial stop calling it mixed" real talk
Thank you for your elaboration on mixed venous blood.
Thank you
Excellent explanation!! Thank you. I will share your video with my students. 👍🏼
Thank you for watching, commenting and sharing!
When you say "my students"...are you an instructor?
Sometimes I’m asked to run an ABG and a VBG at the same time. What is the significance of doing this? What can you tell by looking at both at the same time?
Great question! C(a-v)O2....By comparing the difference between arterial O2 content and a true mixed venous sample O2 content you can assess oxygen extraction at the tissue level.
When is the time when ABG should be drawn instead of VBGs if patient isn’t intubated
Since we get pulse oximeter and oxygenation status could be assessed associated with clinical pattern.
PH hco3 could be correlated with A and VBGs to guide treatment
Not sure is there any role in ABG in general ward
Hello, I think anytime you think you need a gas, you should draw and assess an ABG. I do think a VBG would be adequate for ventilation assessment during the course of care beyond the initial assessment of an ABG. Thank you for watching and commenting!
Such an important topic. Graduated in May and really only see ABG’s in the ICU, not on the floors and such. Need to know topic because this is the majority of what I see.
Why is that the higher PaCO2 in VBG does not cause the greater amount of bicarbonate in the vein? More CO2 dissolves in the blood to become H+ and bicarbonate ?
nicely explained, I would suggest to put your resources you obtain your information from so it could be used as a reference whenever this information is shared.
Thank you, Mohanad. I appreciate the feedback. Thank you for watching!
How can we interpret whether it is ABG/VBG if patient is having hypoxemia or hypercarbia?
Why are the HCO3 values in ABG and VBG the same? Aren't they calculated based on PCO2? Thank you🙏
Yes, bicarb is calculated based on CO2 and pH. Venous blood has a lightly lower pH because of the slightly higher CO2 and unchanged bicarb.
@@RespiratoryCoach thank u..
Thankyou for your pet peeve😜learning soo much❣️Christ be the Glory
Very informative as usual
I am very grateful for demystifying important information
Best of luck, carry on
Is a venous oxygen saturation test the same as a venous blood gas test?
I think it would have to be. The only way you can measure venous saturation is by analyzing a venous blood gas.
@@RespiratoryCoach I had Covid Dec 2020. My venous blood gas test result from today (s02) are 34%. The clinic had no clue what they are doing. Is this low?
Thanks, a lot. Super helpful
Cool! Speak up anytime I can help. Thanks for watching, McClinton.
It's great. Thanks u soooo much sir
You very welcome! Thanks for watching!!
What is the difference between vbg and abg?
Thanks dude, super helpful
Excellent! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
You are the best.
