Yup, and I kinda wonder why. Like, what was it about this particular era that made it so popular, only to then more or less die out? I mean, there have been cartoons since then which dabbled in the stuff. The amazing misadventures of flapjack loved to have scenes where the animation style would change to some really deranged Ren and Stimpy stuff, and Adult Swim's got a TON of shows over the years that can be as gross as the worst of them... but it got SUPER big then in the 90's, and then never again. Really wonder what happened there.

EGM was all OVER the place with their reviews back in the day. Much like GamePro giving nearly every game sky high ratings, EGM would give, say, Final Fantasy 2/4 middling reviews. You know, a game today considered one of the greatest of all time, and they let their SPORTS game reviewer have at it. Crap like that is why I never trust critics and reviewers unless literally every source is giving something rock bottom ratings, whether it be movies, TV or games.
This game's a funny one to look back on. The 90's was the time of "extreeeme!1" and so forth, you'd think a game in intentional bad taste with cool animation would seem like a good idea... but I also remember reviews saying it wasn't much fun, and quite frankly it was competing with Donkey Kong Country, Sonic and Knuckles and Earthworm Jim. ALL of these characters have way stronger appeal than Boogerman, who just doesn't feel like he's as strong a mascot as any of those other guys. He just doesn't look as cool, and I can see that kids going by the cover will compare Boogerman to others and find him, if not lacking, then definitely a lower priority. Add on to that the magazines are REALLY bad at selling Boogerman: I had no idea until now that the animations were so smooth as they were! In stills where you just have the, as SLX said, paltry backgrounds and unmoving sprites, Boogerman is just not as compelling as any of the aforementioned games. So you have a game you have to see in action to understand the appeal, IF you see the appeal in the first place, and which releases in competition with some of the genres kings. No wonder Boogerman attempts to break wind just got it broken instead.
Yay! you reviewed Boogerman! You're the man segalord X! Its worth noting that Snes is a little bit diffrent to the megadrive. some of the levels layouts vary and diffrent enemies appear. Its interesting for comparsion between megadrive. I think Blast processing gave this game the edge :)

I'll have to give this one another play... I have so much nostalgia for it. A truly great, one of a kind game and totally unforgettable hero.
Boogerman’s flashing cape reminds me of the Caped Koopas in “Super Mario World” with flashing capes. The ones who give you a Cape Feather when you take them out.

I loved this game's soundtrack. Especially Flatulent Swamps. The drop was awesome. The gameplay and graphics were some of Interplay's finest before Fallout was released. It still holds up today as well. Immature, maybe. Fun, definitely.
For me it was the caves. I have to wonder if maybe mucus mountains and the caverns were meant to be their own distinct worlds but got smashed together due to time constraints.

I remember when I picked it out as a kid and my mother was just completely aghast and couldn't believe something like it existed! Thankfully, she still bought it for me! It might not have the best game but I still got a ton of enjoyment out of it and just thought it was one of the coolest and most unique ideas for a game. I also remember trying to explain the game to my friends at school, and I always got the weirdest looks and most thought I was making it all up! I remember even being picked on, because I was talking about such gross things like that...I don't think I ever met another kid that owned the game, which was kinda weird because you'd think it would've sold pretty well or at least would've been a little bit more well-know.
SLX, I was 11 when this came out and I thought it was extremely immature and disgusting. I also lived in the Middle East at the time and the subject matter (boogers, farts, etc...) was frowned upon. In any case thanks for the video - it did bring back some memories. 🤣
It’s really not a terrible game, but for all its great animation, I absolutely get burned out by the neon green everywhere- even with later stages changing it up, it still feels overly monochromatic. Had they used a little texture in the vast pools of green, maybe it wouldn’t be so bad to me.
I played a lot of this when I was a kid! The humor was right up my alley and I enjoy platformers. Now that I'm an adult I still laugh at this game because I never grew up! This video reminded me of this game and I should let my son play it.
I'm in the same boat as you were. Messed with this for a bit but never really dove in all the way when it's humour didn't hook me right off the bat. Maybe I'll take a closer peek.
Boogermiester (the last boss) was tough. Once you memorized his attack pattern, it was a lot easier to beat him. Kudos to Sega Lord X for adding the intro the Boogermiester fight.
Love the 90s vibe. It's extremelly 90s in every sence. Didn't remember the super good animation! I never finished it. I'll try to play it again. Awesome memories 🤩
This is one of those games that you just need to play to understand. I only ever saw the ads for it on GamePro magazine and comic books. I never played it and never knew anyone who had. My friends and I turned our noses up at it(get it?!) and stuck to Sonic and Streets of Rage and such. But these days, with all the reviews out there, it looks fun as hell.
It didn't sell very well from what I remember. And the reviews often compared to earthworm Jim and thought that the graphics for this game was kind of bland
The issue is that by this point, 2D platformers were just overdone. It's like how brawlers died in the early '90s. After Double Dragon, everyone and their mum were making brawlers, and after Super Mario Bros, everyone and their mum were making platformers, and we just got sick of them.
On the other hand, the Donkey Kong Country series released at the same time and sold well, both 1 which was contemporary with this, and 2 and 3, as well as Yoshi's Island. Buuut on the other hand those were also Nintendo's top-tier talents getting big advertizing budgets and getting extra focus, but I do recall that 2D platformers overall weren't really doing setting the world on fire anymore.
@@goranisacson2502 For Donkey Kong Country, it was to do with "originality points" of using 3D pre-renders, which I personally thought looked appalling, but was enough to get it over the line. For Yoshi's Island, it was the impressive 3DFX chip effects with real time scaling and next to no slowdown.
@@fattomandeibu True, they did have some really cool-looking effects, stuff that looked good even in stills. Boogerman, if you were even into the gross-out humor in the first place, only really looked good when you saw the sprites in motion. In stills, due to the boring backgrounds and sort of bland protagonist, the game really didn't impress.
I missed a lot of Sega Lord X videos. I can't front the title of this game is wild and crazy 😧🤣 boogerman 😂 anyways, much appreciated what you doing, SLX 😊
I passed on this one at the time, but recently picked up the Interplay collection on Everdrive, and I actually really liked it too. You nailed it. It's really stupid, and obscenely disgusting, but it's still a lot of fun, and technically impressive. The kids will get a kick out of it. I know mine did.
Idk if you've ever played Keio The Flying Squadron 2 on the Saturn but I feel it's an overlooked under appreciated platformer full of charm and wackiness similar to games like Dynamite Heady and Earthworm Jim.
I grew up with this game as kid, loved it then and love it now. The music the gameplay the animation was incredible for a toilet humor type game. Its really no different than the South Park games, in fact I wouldn't doubt Matt and Trey played this game and was inspired to have the same fart attacks in their game.

Great video. I enjoyed this game a lot back in the 90’s and I still enjoy it today.
This is the embodiment of mid-90s gross out humor.
Get your fingers out your nose it’s booger time 😂
It's like they took the complaint that Genesis sound effects often sound like farts and just ran with it.
The SNES version is borderline unplayable because of the screen crunch, and the fact you are moving near the right of the screen when it scrolls.
My mom hated it when I would rent this game From blockbuster lol!
I played a lot of this when I was a kid! The humor was right up my alley and I enjoy platformers. Now that I'm an adult I still laugh at this game because I never grew up! This video reminded me of this game and I should let my son play it.
I was 10 years old and still a couple years away from getting my saturn. This game was smack dab in the middle of my kind of game! I loved it.
The best quote from the game. “Booger!”

This gives me PilotRedSun vibes. Like this would be the fake game that one of the characters is playing.
I remember renting and beating this over a weekend as kid😂 good times🙌🏾
I'm in the same boat as you were. Messed with this for a bit but never really dove in all the way when it's humour didn't hook me right off the bat. Maybe I'll take a closer peek.
I have no memory of this game, but it reminds me of Night of the Tentacles
I'm British and this game was really popular.
Boogermiester (the last boss) was tough. Once you memorized his attack pattern, it was a lot easier to beat him. Kudos to Sega Lord X for adding the intro the Boogermiester fight.
Bonus fact: This title was slated for a remaster, but it didn't hit the Kickstarter asking sum 🌈
Love the 90s vibe. It's extremelly 90s in every sence. Didn't remember the super good animation! I never finished it. I'll try to play it again. Awesome memories 🤩
This was the funniest thing in the world as a kid and now that I'm an adult it's still the funniest thing in the world.
Old Boogerman cool to have him here. THX! Good Stuff!
Great review! I loved this game as a kid
This was one of my favorite games way back when! I played it over and over.
I remember this being launched here in Brazil back in the day. I was a teenager but even then I couldn't stand this 5th grade sort of humour...
It was very popular game in Russia then
Russian gamers have good taste
What the hell. I've never even heard of this game.
Do a video on all the interplay games. Seemed like they all had amazing animation and graphics but ehhh game play. Great video as usual!
This is why 90's games were the best! Great titles, awesome gameplay and you just put the game in and didn't have to wait for it to download.
And then everyone and their mum started making 3D polygon games and I got sick of that.
_This_ needs a AAA 4K60 remake. XD
I was 10 when this game came out and i loved it then and i still love it now.
Great video! This game was my jam when i was 10 years old.
Now I have to check it out!
