The combination of aperture, focal length, EQ mode, longer exposures and use of both lenses for imaging makes this really compelling for me! Just crossing my fingers about the price!
Thanks for the excellent commentary, as always! 😁🔭

I have just discovered that the DWARF 3 will not come with the small sturdy tripod that came with the DWARF 2, no problem if you already have a Dwarf 2 of course, but for a potential first time buyer like me this will mean an extra cost added onto the initial first purchase. For the price of it ( around £500.00 here in the U.K ) the least they could have done is to include it , I can’t think why they didn’t this time around, even the SeeStar comes with one .

I used to have a DWARF II, which I was happy with. I then bought a Seestar S50, which I was more happy with and sold the DWARF II. Then I upgraded to a Vespera 2. But now I like the idea of having a lighter telescope to take around and complementt the Vespera. So, I put my preorder in for the DWARF III.

how is the transferring files on the Vespera. Doing it over WiFi sounds like it would take forever.

I chose the ZWO SeeStar as my tiny do-all astro scope. I'd hope that ZWO would upgrade their sensor and find a way for EQ tracking in a future version. Thanks for your video. Clear skies, Michael

I only just bought my Dwarf II about a month ago but honestly, Im still pretty stocked about the 3rd gen version, I just might keep the 2 and start saving for the 3 as well. I never thought I would like the Dwarf 2 so much but it is a truly remarkable little machine, even if its a little finicky at times. I'm excited for the future and I enjoy spending my time taking cool photos and images of space (and wildlife). I just hope the Dwarf 3 is still somewhat budget friendly. Well, we shalle see what the future holds, but for now, Im still enjoying the Dwarf 2 and i hope to see that Sky Atlas update soon because thats a pretty useful feature to have. I look forward to longer exposures as well as the better optics and sensor in the next gen Dwarf telescope.

My DWARF II is now 1 year old. I am very satisfied with it and had played with the idea of buying a Vaonis for larger lens and image quality. Until...
DWARF 3 will offer something that no other smartscope can do, widefield astrophotos! Images of the Milky Way and the possibility of registering meteorshowers. Hope the price is right.

    Nice video, thank you :)
    my opinion si
    CONS
    - no battery remove (if it damged is a big problem)
    - no sd card (ok sd is not good for speed but the same as battery, if i damage memory goodbye dwarf)
    - aperture, ok i small telescope, very very portable but i prefer 50mm looks like the Seestar / Vespera II
    - focal lenght, i prefer 250mm not 150mm.
    PRO
    - ablsolutely portable
    - very simple to use (not like the Seestar but similar)
    - rich funcitions menu
If the photography is similar to Seestar / Vespera II and the price is similar to Seestar i think they won !!

I have a Dwarf 2 , so far I’m very happy with it. However, I made the mistake of leaving the battery in it when not used for several months and it discharged it that he battery then failed to charge , luckily I had a spare . It did say in the instructions not leave the battery in while not in use for extended periods as there is a some amount of drain.
I assume they will ensure this had the necessary circuitry that this will happen with a built in non-replaceable battery.
Personally I think it is a retrograde step.
Pity, the rest look of the improvements looks good and it’s over £100 cheaper than the Dwarf 2 .
However I don’t think it’s worth the upgrade for me , when for not a lot more I could buy a Seestars s50 . A friend bought a S50 and I must admit it was impressive that has a built in battery as well. Each has there pros and cons, the Seestar is better for moon shots . The Dwarf wider angle lens better to capture larger areas of the sky and its more portable, so the new lighter version would be an advantage when I took the Dwarf 2 abroad to to Minorca. It’s the only time I got a clear sky for several days in a row 😮.
Owning both would be an awesome combination.

The colour will be a sort of lightish gray (1:20) not black and I think a 256 GB or even 512 GB would have been the better storage option. Overall it will be a great upgrade.

My big grip with Dwarf Lab is for 12 months kept the buggy app, which was poor, gave us no updates, then not long before the D3 decided to update the app to cater for the D3. FEEL RIPPED OFF as they are so slow in updates, won't get a massive update possibly just before D4 comes out.
Every other smart telescopes have regular updates, which is needed, but Dwarf labs dud nothing for D2 owners for 12 months, the slowest updates of anyone. And only got the atlas now.
One thing that is still very poor is only 500 objects still in the data base.
All the other smart scopes do far better than this with regular updates, bar Dwarf Labs.
Seems they forgot about the D2 on release and did nothing for us and decided instead ti bring out a new one and updated the app as an incentive buy THE D3.
I feel if it was not for the D3 release may still not have got the star atlas and new features.
The only update we got for the whole of D2 was not long before D3. It sucks they almost neglected the D2 for it's whole lifespan and expected us to use a poor app, a rip off I think

Re Milky Way: Most times I can barely see the Big Dipper, mostly because of the clouds/humidity. And still the Dwarf can image a beautiful starfield. So, are you saying I would be able to do the same with the Milky Way? I can't see it here in Bortle 6 & have not seen the Milky Way since I was a kid in the 60s.

    • @ScottCastrophotography

@@ScottCastrophotography so even in a high Bortle scale, you'd be able to now? (side note: I pre-ordered the D3 already) if so, imagine the possibility of seeing the Milky Way in suburban parts of Los Angeles, that's like mind boggling.

Ugh. I have a 512gb card in my Dwarf II that is nearly full. A solar eclipse lasts 3 hours. If I clear out the memory on the Dwarf III and record at 4K uncompressed at 30fps it will fill up the internal memory right at the peak of the eclipse. I would want 4k uncompressed if possible so I can do a moving stacking window across the eclipse and use the resulting frames to make a detailed time lapse. When they come out with a version with at least 384gb, I will buy one, even at twice the cost. Until then, I guess I'm stuck with the Dwarf II. Memory is cheap. Why they chose only 128gb is beyond me! My Google Pixel 7 pro has 1TB built in! They should have room for at least 6 hours of raw 4k video plus a few thousand raw images for stacking in post so people travelling with it won't have to plan time to pull all the data off between a solar eclipse and a nighttime astrophotography session.

Still feel Dwarf 2 owners where ripped of big time for 12 months no update ar all with the apps. To keep the peace, bought out a big update to the app, but only a few months before D3. And another update when D3 was announced, so seems they did this as a hook for you to buy the D3 They are far to slow bringing out updates and not regular like the other smart scopes and Dwarf Labs have still not updated the data base, still 500 objects.
No they crapped on D2 owners for most of its lifestyle and dought D3 will get any major updates till D4, unless D2 was just an experiment hense lack of updates fir pretty well most of its life.
They hold the record for least updates ever in any cycle of smartphone

Dwarf buggy app needs to be fixed before lunching a new hardware. Have both Dwarf 2 and Seestar S50 and S50 works flawless and I wish Dwarf app would work as good.
I would 3x times more for smart telescope with at least 70mm aperture, 280-350mm FL, and 8MP and with optional software feature built-in to mount to proper use it in equatorial configuration. Maybe Dwarf 5 Pro or Seestar 70EQ Pro?
