    Hey Molly, glad to have you back and congrats on 10k subscribers. So sorry you had to deal with illness in your family, but spring is almost here and better health with it. I watch all of your videos because you always put a smile on my face. 😁You've introduced me to some really cool instruments I would never have discovered on my own! Stay healthy and I look forward to more videos.

    Congrats on 10K. I'm just now celebrating 3K so I've got a long time until I catch ya. LOL. Bad news about the recent flu lockdown. I hope everyone is fully recovered. My wife and I both had covid earlier this year and she got over it pretty quickly but I got the long case. I've been fighting it (and it's after effects) for 2 months now. Ugh. So over it. Anyway, so crazy that you and I both posted a Sweetone video within a week of each other. I guess yours was in C and mine in D so they're not exactly the same but... pretty darn close. Good to see your take on it. You are definitely a better wind player than I.

    Wow. I don’t know why but I was getting serious Disney Pocahontas vibes from that tune. 😂😅😅 hope your family is feeling better soon~ Never apologize for putting family first, that’s just how life is!
    Congrats on your channel’s success. I’d be interested to see your favorite harp music books please.~~

      It is Pocahontas! I forgot to add that in the video notes 😅 Thank you do much for your kindness! I would love to do a music book video, thank you for the idea!

      Good to know I wasn’t going crazy. I’ve only seen that movie once on tv so I’m not very familiar with its score.

    Really like your videos. I have a serious musical instrument collection problems but you have me beat. Love all the variety of instruments you show. The one I play that gets the weirdest looks is my Seagull Merlin (basically a mountain dulcimer turned sideways like a guitar). You should get one they are a lot of fun to play.

    Hi :) what is the difference between the normal tin whistle in C, and the sweetone one?

  • @mwatts-riley2688
    @mwatts-riley2688 2 года назад

    Is the tin whistle the same fingering as the wood recorder? I have the wood recorder and need lessons, dearly.
    I've had it for 3 years but when the pandemic hit I could not find a teacher. 😥
    I paid 40$ for my recorder. I heard it was easy HOWEVER I can not learn the mouth position. I played clarinet for years and thought this would be easy but my notes CONSTANTLY squeak or sound ok one time and crap the next time. Huh?

      Oof that sounds hard! From what I remember of playing clarinet in college (it's been years 😅) it requires a tighter embouchure than the recorder. It might be worth it to try relaxing your mouth slightly and reducing your breath pressure, you may have more luck!
      The fingerings for recorder and whistle are very similar in that the fingers move linearly, but both come in so many different keys so a "D" is not three fingers down consistently or anything like that.

      If your notes squeak, you're probably blowing too hard. For low notes on recorders, even breathing out passively can be too much. You really need a controlled sigh.
      Also, 40$ is pretty cheap for a wood recorder. Might be worth getting a 10$ yamaha plastic one so you can be sure the recorder isn't the problem.

    Funny, the Sweetone is my least favorite of tin whistles in the same price range. I actually prefer the Original Clarke in D or C, by far. Most whistles are not breathy or soft so much as piercing, and loud, so if I want to play and not disturb others too much, the brass Shush whistle is my go to whistle now. They are several times the price but have a very lovely, very sweet tone. 😉

      I agree that the Original Clarke is much better than the Sweetone. The latter is too loud and sounds like a toy, although very easy to play and control the squeaks and squeals. The Original is just as easy to play and the tone is sweeter and has that traditional sound. Some complain it takes too much air, but I found you need to take a breath where needed.

    I've three Sweetone whistles (that's an endorsement) , and 13 other tinwhistles, including Sindt and LIR whistles.
