*MAJOR SPOILER IN THE FOLLOWING. You have been warned*
Most of you who have watched this through the whole way will probably be wondering: "Why did he leave Noe? What the hell is wrong with this guy?! What a crappy ending!" Well maybe scratch the crappy ending, depending on how one thinks. However, I can give you insight on why he left Noe. The anime's title is "True Tears". It basically revolves around Noe recovering her "tears" which her grandmother stole from her. Noe believes that Shin'Ichirō has the ability to help her on this. In the final episode with the camera on Noe's back, if you didn't notice, Noe let out a tear. The tear she let out, was in fact, a "true" tear. You followed all that? Quick summary: Shin'Ichirō left Noe so she can cry a tear to live up to the anime name! Now yes, I know what you must be thinking. "Why end it like this?! There must be some other way to recover her tears! Why break up with her?" And I completely agree with this thought. At the same time, I did enjoy this ending. Although it may not have been the BEST ending I've witnessed, I think it was nice how Shin'Ichirō didn't completely neglect Noe in the end, even singing after her full of tears.

I downloaded each fan subbed episode with dial up internet back in 2007 as it was airing each week. It took me 5 days to get one 300 megabyte episode. I cherished each minute and rewatched it 3 or 4 times before I could get the next one. Such an amazing show, I still am heartbroken for Noe but I still have my old Zune with the OST on it!

Suddenly remembered this anime.. its been several years already.
I watched this as a kid, with a simple mind filled with mostly happiness. So I predicted he'd dump Noe. But now... Why did he?
This ending used to keep me up for Months. Still ten years later, revisiting the feeling that noe felt still makes me sad 😢 again
I gave Tari-Tari a watch today and my mind was blown away when I heard this song. Loved it so much!
I absolutely loved this anime... The second anime EVER to make me cry... The first one was Angelbeats! But I cried waaayy more for this anime..
I just finished watching this anime, and i have to say, i really enjoyed the ending. Out of the many different anime's i have watched, this is one of the very few in which i have liked the ending.

Thanks for the explanation of the ending! I just finished watching it a few days ago.
This anime was one of the most dramatic romance series that I have ever watched. I was so sad when Shinichiro didn't end up together with Noe. Surprisingly though, I did not cry during the series, although I should have. My only complaint is that the series ended pretty abruptly. But it was also, for some reason, an ending that felt satisfying. Overall, I love this anime. Wish there was a dub though.
Now that I think about it, if this series had a dub, that would probably be kind of like a Clannad dub, where it was kind of bad. So maybe no dub.
Have you watched Toradora? It's popular so you might have already, but if not you should because it's great.
I did watch Toradora in fact. However I still believe that true tears was way more dramatic. No shame on Toradora obviously. Toradora will, in fact, be probably the best romance series i have ever watched. Not dramatic, or placed as a rom/com. I mean romance as a genre. It is the best romance series I have ever watched.

My poor noe not once did she cry throughout the entire show in front of anyone only for her to shed some true tears at the end. It made me so mad and sad honestly i cried for her so much in this show , she’s so strong 😭😭😭 . Im just sad i won’t get to see her progress anymore

I have to agree... And, True Tears demands a whole lot more of understanding, because of its metaphorical side. You know, Dibeta and Raigomaru's stories... I just love how deep True Tears is!

they should have made a season 2 really. i miss this anime. i didn't see true tears when it came out in 2008, but i discovered it in 2012. and instantly became a fan big time. i almost forgot about it until it popped in my head i need to get back into watching anime again. my computer has been kind of slow the last few months.

i remember first watching this anime back in 2011 i think. i was hooked and it was passionate and sad. noe was my favorite deep down still to this day. shin should have chose noe. i'd wish a season 2 was happening. sucks though.
season 2 might be impossible but. a OVA with NOE ENDING ROUTE would be nice

My opinion, the title true tears really talk about sinichiro and harumi love for each other, and what kept them from getting together, it could have other meaning but that is what I get after watching it...

Almost anyone favoured Noe, and I think the show has been made that way on purpose. But it was clear how in the end it was gonna be Hiromi.

Tari Tari is a better show than True Tears, but True Tears is excellent in its own right. PA Works is probably my favorite studio, and it's worth checking out True Tears to see where it started.
I was actually happy that he ended up together with the other girl. Noe in my opinion had much growing to do in other aspects at that point se was more of a pixie girl rather than a “real thing”

Theres such an absurd amount of hate for Hiromi which was the obvious main girl from the very start. Her character is one of the more realistic characters in the show, she displayed several character flaws and it honestly made her seem more human and relatable. Its up to you on how you think about it really but in reality, women get jealous, they do shitty things and guys arw guilty of it too. Noe was a really, estranged character... however for sure likable but she wasn't the choice for Shin since the very beginning. I'm actually very happy that in the end he picked Hiromi even though it was sad with that one beach scene, RIP TEARS

i also thought about that anime while watching true tears, i was happy about who the mc chose in the end tho unlike this one, i got a little disappointed
@MeiyoFurukawa You misunderstood. I never mentioned anything about it being a happy or sad tears. They are simply "true", REAL tears Noe let out, and Ichiro was the one who Noe believed can, and did accomplish that.
