I have allways said that Mayhem have got one good album and that´s Live In Leipzig(with Per Ohlin and Jan Blomberg). I bet The Mysteriis would sound 1000 x better if mr. Ohlin were on vocals (personally i think Attila Csihar did poor work + his woice just did not fit that consept and ruined the album). But i´m not sure what was going on in Per´s mind when he jumped from a band like this in to Mayhem - this band would become something that could be heared (and smelled) beyond the "borders" of our universum. I love Per´s vocals.

I’m seriously not even sure if Mayhem would’ve gotten famous if Euronymous hadn’t been such a crass opportunist who was willing to use Dead’s mental issues to bolster his band’s image. I think it's cause he was the actual embodiment of the sound. What Deasd was doing vocally was so beyond his time, he didn't even realize what he was doing.

In 1994 it was already the second wave of black metal. Old school black metal was 1982-1987; from the release of Venom LP titled "Black Metal" to the release of "Deathcrush" by Mayhem.
This mix of Thrash/Black metal, same as what sarcofago did, same as other bands like mutilator imo is the best part of the whole scene. Perfect mix of dark and gothic, heavy but also an energetic sound.

(In my opinion) even today, Yngve's loss is the heaviest impact taken by black and death metal and their potentials.
