I have an idea Casey! You should be interactive with your subscribers and let them do some time lapses, we should upload some unique time lapses from all over the world and not only does that help the content creator to viewer relationship but also spicing up the vlogs as well, like so Casey can see guys! Posting this till Casey sees! Xd we want this to happen!
I watched this video this morning then proceeded to get a job interview went to it and got the job, thanks for the little burst of motivation Casey, keep up the good work man.
I liked the advice, but I have to say, a lot of successful people are full time quitters, cutting the shit and admitting when something isn't going to work frees you up to learn from the mistake and move on to something better. For example, I loved kayaking professionally, but when I realised I wanted to quit & make videos, it was actually risky NOT to quit!
Thanks Casey. I'll tatoo in my mind this words: "Finish even imperfectly, learn, move on. Abandon the idea of perfection, instead focus on the idea of productivity"
+Burton Bao You sir, are lost then. Dont be into Casey that much that you think him better than God. At the end of the day he is just human just like you and me. Shish..
This is the second morning in a row that I’m back. I’ve searched this up specifically. This, fat and lazy, your guide to filmmaking, the jocko video, and just your overall work ethic and outlook on life have very much inspired me over the years and I genuinely appreciate that Casey. Thank you. I’ll try to work harder.
"Someone that starts something and doesn't finish something -- that is a loser. Someone who starts something and always finishes it... that is a closer." I really needed to hear this. Seriously. Thank you.
+Ian davis that's because every other youtuber's page is riddled with kids under 12 and those are the haters usually... Casey's vlogs are watched generally by older people, many adults over 35 watch casey, not very many people under 16 I'd say..
+Ian davis he got almost 10% of dislikes in the first few minutes though.. Not much, but to me it looked like quite a lot for the work he always puts into his vlogs.
Tomorrow I'm visiting my girlfriend for the very first time. I live in the UK and she lives in Canada. Its gonna be a huge experience since I'm going on my own. Somehow I feel like I gotta credit Casey and his vlogs, for teaching others to essentially chase their dreams etc. So just wanted to say thank you Casey for inspiring those to go after the things that make them happy :)
+Vura Good choice, Canadian girls & Canada in general ROCK! I hope you have a great time & take advantage of some of the many vantages/view points Canada has to offer. May I suggest a trip to Niagara Falls while you are here, It's about 4-5 hrs away from Ottawa & an awe-inspiring sight. :) Valerie, a Canadian chick from Sarnia, Ontario.
So, a woman is a loser for having a miscarriage...? And don't say "that's nature" and such, because it's also nature to feel frustrated at not being able to create perfection, and then not being able to finish it ...as it bothers you so.
Casey (and viewers) will like the book "Art & Fear: Observations of the Perils (and rewards) of Artmaking", it really hits on a lot of the points of Casey's vlog and the notion that you can achieve quality by concentrating on quantity, that DOING is more important than planning, that WORK is more important than thought, in terms of the creative process. When one can overcome their fears and procrastinations and just DO stuff, great things happen! I never achieved anything truly great by playing it safe, it was only when I started taking chances that I really broke free and became the me that I knew I could be.
You're my inspiration on RUclips. I've been following your old method from years ago to focus on (and use as an excuse) quality over quantity. I needed to hear this from you, Casey. Time to start closing!
People leave school all the time. The ones who sat around and punched below their weight with their goals were the losers. Sometimes you have to leave something that doesn't serve a purpose to you anymore to go onto something better. Moving on doesn't make you a loser. How about, "Always be moving"? Or, "Always be hustling"?
+Thunder Chicken Thighs yes but i think casey is trying to leave that for the rare occasion and not make it the exception. always be hustling, always be closing (aim to be) and occasionally you must hustle and not close. I'm not perfect I have things to close now.
+Thunder Chicken Thighs that's gray area where Casey ostensibly disagrees with you, in his words, any time you fail to finish something which you began, you are a loser. So by his own definition, he was a loser for dropping out of school. And he has in fact stated (multiple times) that he was indeed a loser at that age.
Then you are closing something not beneficial to your life. He did say something about moving on and learning from mistakes. I also would not take Casey's quotes and apply them to every situation. It's more about at least one person having a realization and can apply them that can then make a solid impact.
Loved the fortune cookie quote - I've be carrying one around in the back of my iPhone case for a few years that says "Don't give up. The best is yet to come." :)
I think I understand what you mean: Although there are those rare projects that were a learning experience in and of themselves and don't need to be finished, FEAR is a terrible excuse for not finishing a project. A good analogy is skills in RPG games: You level up by DOING. Every obstacle you overcome gives you more experience. And in turn, that experience allows you to, eventually, reach a level that can meet/surpass the hardest challenges in the game, AKA: both your own, and others', expectations. Failing to close, on the other hand, means you got close to gaining valuable creative experience, but most of what you got was the experience of failing to close. You can learn from that how better not to fail to close, but most of your focus will be on that, instead of on learning from the project itself. Once you have learned how to close consistently, as you have, it frees up your focus to learn from the projects themselves. Cool message.
Great Vlog as usual Casey! Just wanted to give my thought-through opinion on the Losers/Closers conundrum. Although I would agree with you that most of the time it is crucial to see through what we have committed to. I think 'Quitting' is not always a bad thing. To give two examples, in some situations (e.g. mountain climbing) it might be reckless and perilous to attempt to 'Close'. Yes, you might have lost the challenge you set yourself but you won by not dying. Furthermore, as you said a couple weeks back, our time is limited and committing to 'close' everyting we have set ourselves might be a ineffective use of our lifetime. Thus "reassessing" goals and committments is not necessarily bad. Sorry for the drawn-out comment and looking forward to tomorrow :D
There's a difference between quitting, to just know when you had enough. So don't let anyone (even Casey) call you a loser. only you can call yourself that.
Casey, the content in video genuinely connected with me in a way that has proven to be useful in my personal and professional life. The concept of finishing what I start has become a gamechanger. As a graduate school student, I have used your mantra to push myself to compete and submit assignments where in the past of typically would be left the project 90% complete to finish at another time. I want to thank you for the video which has made a meaningful impact.
Casey I've been stuck editing a project for the last 6 months. Procrastination got the best of me, and I've been feeling so shitty every single day lately. This vlog, of all your vlogs has got me pumped up to CLOSE this god damn project and release it! I am now closing my internet browser, disconnecting the wifi, and won't be back until it's CLOSED! Thank you
What I like about Casey is that he is just as caring (about his family, friends, community and even getting cute gifts...) as he is driven. That says a lot about his character.
That Rolex, though. Man, this guy Casey is brilliant - addicted to your vlogs! The inspiration and motivation you provide is unlike anything that I've seen before. Always keep up the great work.
Love these Inspirational/Motivational/Educational movies you make. Tricks of the trade of life. My biggest problem I have is starting things and never finishing them, Its a CURSE!!!! From Books to Projects Putting my Ideas to paper but never realizing them. This changes NOW!!!! I don't wan't to be a LOSER anymore. Thank You Casey +CaseyNeistat
And then I get to ride it another 15 miles back home in a few more hours. 37 degrees, maybe 38. Maybe. Running a GoPro, maybe I'll grab a couple of clips from it.
+SpaceFlye This is fricken weird! I took a 4 hour flight and watched this movie today on the plane? WHAT!??!! Rule 39 perhaps?: "There is no such thing as coincidence." But what does it mean?
i love Casey's videos. his advice on top of the little things he does in editing and his filming techniques are really helping me make better videos. Hats off to you!
Casey, did you read a lot or do you like to read a lot. Curious since you did not finish high school? I ask because your vocabulary is pretty dang awesome! Great episode man!
This video has changed my mindset of so many things. To the degree of me actually writing the A-B-C quote in my Masters Thesis, in my field of Fire Protection Engineering and Structural Integrity. Thank you Casey.
That's funny Casey, because Glengarry Glenn Ross is like a scathing critique on American business practices (like the phrase "Always Be Closing"). The movie is trying to say the opposite of what you took away from it (American's are too focused on the dichotomy of success/failure), which doesn't mean you are wrong it's just funny how that worked out
This strikes at my BIGGEST problem as a creative and a business person. I have more unfinished projects than I can count. I DO always finish. But sometimes it takes me forever. Solely because of my obsession with perfection. Breaking that wall and just letting go... that is my quest. Cheers!
Casey said he was going to do the give away in 2 days from his New Year's Day vlog. So that would've been yesterday. Someone already posted in comments today that they won the boosted board (I think it was the boosted board) so if you haven't won by now looks like you didn't win anything :(
A good word today, Casey. It was comforting to hear-in the Pareto Principle-what I always feel about the video production process. And see the pie chart made it more concrete. I'm gonna screen shot the fortune and live by. Thanks for your videos.
About a month ago I was working on designing the new kit for the sports team I play for. However, after going through what I now realise was the easy part, that is drafting the initial ideas, I then had difficulty in actually drawing certain parts of it and I which really got me hung up on it not being perfect, as well as me not wanting to design something the rest of the team wouldn't be proud to wear. I lost all my motivation. Thanks Casey for explaining this to me and giving me the drive to go back and complete it .After what has today been a pretty disappointing birthday for me, this message you've given me has definitely been the best gift
Most RUclipsrs would have just not uploaded a video that day but no Casey is on the ball!!! Well done, motivation to keep going even when you're winning
How does this video not have over 20 million views? I think the underlying principles from this video are fantastic. Casey, you are a true inspiration. Thanks.
This video actually motivated me to try harder in school and not give up. I was contemplating on dropping out but now I will strive to be a closer. Thanks Casey!
Who still comes back to his old videos?
DubsTeq yes yes ...

Forever Winner email, twitter all sorts of things, it's the Internet after all

+Forever Winner the title should be "Casey Neis-timelapse" or something like that. Then he picks whatever is fitting for the video.

Hi Brown i like what you do, keep it up
You got to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away, know when to run.
+Mr Ben Brown Dude you're missing the point... 80/20 (aka perto principal) is finding where the leverage points are.
Fair argument. I guess there's merit to sticking something out just the same as there is to letting something go (relationships come to mind).
7 years old video, and still one of the best I have ever seen. Thank you Casey
Thanks Casey. I'll tatoo in my mind this words: "Finish even imperfectly, learn, move on.

I kinda miss that small message box at the end :(

This is the second morning in a row that I’m back. I’ve searched this up specifically. This, fat and lazy, your guide to filmmaking, the jocko video, and just your overall work ethic and outlook on life have very much inspired me over the years and I genuinely appreciate that Casey. Also search for Work Harder Casey Neistat video. It's by some other channel and it's little over 3 mins long
3:35m long
Steven De Groot is the channel name
@@habibhassan7770 thank you!
I like how Casey always talks about things and shows it to us visually XD
"The big part of the pie, the pac-man part is the most important." So productiveness is key.
Yep.
I try to always be productive.
+2PK Productions Nah, the key is coconut oil.
I wonder what's the Donkey Kong part.
+FreeFromReign ifunny?
Has anyone ever tried to take your camera when leaving it to get the shot?
+Arcane Venom he said in a past vlog no, no one has.
+Arcane Venom Yeah, I've always wondered this! Let's ask him on the next Q&A
+Ali Naqi he's answered this in a past vlog already.. He said surprisingly no one has
+Arcane Venom He uses an Iphone which has surprisingly good quality and he rests it on walls and all sorts, since it is so small he can easily hide it
+Ben Calcraft he uses a canon 70d
You know you're in for a treat when the top camera turns on.
couldn't agree more
"Someone that starts something and doesn't finish something -- that is a loser. Someone who starts something and always finishes it... that is a closer."
I really needed to hear this. Seriously. Thank you.
This was actually so wise. I've never heard it put that way before..
+Mitchell Peters i have
I'm always amazed at just how little hate/trolling is on caseys page. You guys give me faith in humanity .
+Ian davis i guess it's because it's not easy to hate a person who does that much work, and good work. People respect him I guess.. I do.
+Ian davis There's barely any spam comments as well like the one's where people ask them to like their comment, like if you agree haha banter haha
+Le Blog d'Istanbul yeah it's all about respect
I love my father. But Casey, you have taught me more life lessons then he probably ever will.
i hate my father, and same.
Tomorrow I'm visiting my girlfriend for the very first time. I live in the UK and she lives in Canada. Its gonna be a huge experience since I'm going on my own. "False idea of perfection."
I really like that, thanks man.
I'm going to try and take on this mantra in 2016. I get way too mired in perfectionism and it causes me to procrastinate insanely.
It already has made me more productive!!!
+DavijoMan
oh man me too as well
Same here bro. That was some great advice to deal with that issue and remind us we aren't alone going through it.
So, how did it go with the mantra? Two years have passed.
3 years now.
So im a loser for not finishing watching breaking bad?
Yes you are..
He is talking about things you create
+juan santiago i didn't finish it either....too depressing for me.
So, a woman is a loser for having a miscarriage...?
And don't say "that's nature" and such, because it's also nature to feel frustrated at not being able to create perfection, and then not being able to finish it ...as it bothers you so.
+juan santiago yes you are! finish it..
It's amazing!
Awesome! :D
Leaving comment here so that I remember the book's title
You're my inspiration on RUclips. I've been following your old method from years ago to focus on (and use as an excuse) quality over quantity. I needed to hear this from you, Casey. Time to start closing!
Casey always has such a good message in all of his videos!
Probably one of the most simple videos on RUclips, with one of the most important messages about a work ethic.
+jonnypanteloni Maybe always "close" in on your goal?
+DogLove Nope, not finishing school because it wasn't for you does not make one a loser. Dropping out because you're a lazy partier does though.
This is officially the earliest I've been on a Casey Neistat vlog

True but have you seen that vlog about casey almost dying because he didn't quit climbing that mountain? Lol classic casey
There's a difference between quitting, to just know when you had enough.
So don't let anyone (even Casey) call you a loser. only you can call yourself that.

I love how Casey's vlogs are just about his typical day, teaching us life lessons, and not too long
What I like about Casey is that he is just as caring (about his family, friends, community and even getting cute gifts...) as he is driven. That says a lot about his character.

I got up at 5 AM and rode my bike 15 miles to work in 26 degree weather. What did you do this morning? ;-)
Made breakfast lol
Slept in until 11:30 and woke up to my moms bacon and eggs breakfast. I don't want to grow up.

I heard this in my mind as Losers and Cloosers

Casey, that was your best opening montage/time lapse yet. Way to keep raising the bar!

+Michael Finn Thats what I'm talking about
I think he already has... He explains the 5678, always be closing, do more, work hard tattoos etc...
I think he does have one
he has a video about it 'The Devils Pool'
That's funny Casey, because Glengarry Glenn Ross is like a scathing critique on American business practices (like the phrase "Always Be Closing"). The movie is trying to say the opposite of what you took away from it (American's are too focused on the dichotomy of success/failure), which doesn't mean you are wrong it's just funny how that worked out
This is by far one my favourite videos you've made Casey
This strikes at my BIGGEST problem as a creative and a business person. I have more unfinished projects than I can count. I DO always finish. But sometimes it takes me forever. Solely because of my obsession with perfection. Breaking that wall and just letting go... that is my quest. Cheers!
did they announce the winners of the drone/camera/board?
Not yet
Thanks!
Casey said he was going to do the give away in 2 days from his New Year's Day vlog. So that would've been yesterday. Someone already posted in comments today that they won the boosted board (I think it was the boosted board) so if you haven't won by now looks like you didn't win anything :(
+Mary Coates oh ok! thanks!
+Mary Coates Actually that's not entirely true. If you didn't get to win, you got to lose, so in the end at least you got something. :)

A good word today, Casey. It was comforting to hear-in the Pareto Principle-what I always feel about the video production process. And see the pie chart made it more concrete. I'm gonna screen shot the fortune and live by. Thanks for your videos.
After 4 years Casey is still mentoring me in these videos..
I don't think you've accurately captured the messaging and themes that the movie Glengarry Glen Ross is trying to convey.
So Darth Vader is a loser and Kylo Ren is the closer?
+Ŧ no Darth Vader just found what was the "right" thing to do
"Use the force Harry" - Gandolf from Star Trek Age of Ultron
+Jessica Di Escobar "Luke. I .. am.. groot"
+Jessica Di Escobar greatest comment ever.
+Ŧ Kylo got challenged by a janitor and a newbie to the Force -- and almost lost. He didn't close anything.
Please hang with Jesse again - that guy can use happy vibes
About a month ago I was working on designing the new kit for the sports team I play for. However, after going through what I now realise was the easy part, that is drafting the initial ideas, I then had difficulty in actually drawing certain parts of it and I which really got me hung up on it not being perfect, as well as me not wanting to design something the rest of the team wouldn't be proud to wear. I lost all my motivation. Thanks Casey for explaining this to me and giving me the drive to go back and complete it .After what has today been a pretty disappointing birthday for me, this message you've given me has definitely been the best gift
CASEY you are my oracle. - I have been fighting depression and you are pure energy and example.
Thank you so very much!
this hits hard for someone who just started a channel in youtube and trying so hard to make every vide "worth watching". Thanks (again) Casey!
Most RUclipsrs would have just not uploaded a video that day but no Casey is on the ball!!! Well done, motivation to keep going even when you're winning
Casey you give me motivation to work harder thats the biggest gift you can give any one. Thank you.
How does this video not have over 20 million views? I think the underlying principles from this video are fantastic. Casey, you are a true inspiration. Thanks.
This video actually motivated me to try harder in school and not give up. I was contemplating on dropping out but now I will strive to be a closer. Thanks Casey!
