I use Aperture priority. Set my ISO to auto with low of 200 and max of 12500 ( my high is 12500, anything over is too grainy) a minimum shutter speed of 800 and perfect pics every time. It shoot with Nikon D3s Sometimes I’ll go to 1000 shutter but 800 freezes BB pretty good If u can add strobes great but most amateurs are not strobing their games
On Sony you can go to A-Mode, SET your ISO Auto-Range and Aperture and then you can set the "ISO AUTO min. Shutter Speed" for different Lighting Conditions on the Location. Then you'll always have a fast SS which is important for Sports like Basketball or Soccer. For Soccer I always go with min Shutter Speed 1/2000. On the A7IV you can crank the ISO up to above 6400 and it will look usable
1/2000 for soccer? I think the highest I went was 1/1000 for kicking stills. I think you can slow your shutter by a half stop at least to allow more light and still be crisp.
Ik it's a bit late, but remember, shutter speed controls how blurry an image is. Your F-stop is how shallow your depth of field will be. And your ISO is holding out a bucket and taking in more light, at a cost of noise and grain. And that makes up your exposure triangle.
@@BrianBoschewhich lens do you use for sports. I am currently using a Nikkor 55-200mm and a Canon 70-250mm on a D60 and rebel T1i. Though both have been retired from service and looking at upgrading to a D7500 and Canon mirrorless I think the R50

1,000 ISO looks terrible on my camera lol...but usually I will use higher shutter speeds higher than 1,000...like 8,000 or even 16000 at wider apertures for example, which works great for high burst speeds at 11 FPS or more.
That’s great thanks :) I just shot a dance performance the other day and the slowest that looked good was about 400th of a second - had wide open at f2 and let the iso ride all the way up to 4000 a few moments at 6400😊
You got great lighting there. For shitty gyms you have to got to ISO6400 even. And SS 640. And for most amateur gyms you woudn't use 70-200 ... 35mm is your go to lens ... since they are much smaller. So your settings are relevant only to your friends on that court.
I don't know if you're talking APS-C or Full Frame but i really don't know which sports photographer would say a 35mm is a go to. 70-200 is THE lens for sports photography and especially for basketball. You need to be flexible with your focal length.
@@easybreezy5820 Full frame. Been there, shot it. When you on end line inn small gym 70-200 is too tight. I do not have 24-70, guess it will be better than 35mm. 55mm on end line is sometimes too tight. On a side line in small gym 70-200 is too tight also in most cases. Might be the case you do not have such gyms in USA. But in central/Eastern Europe sometimes gym is 2m wider than court.
High school gyms have terrible lighting!! I am always stuck with 1/500s shutter, f2.8, and around 3200-10000 iso My gear is the Sony A1 with the 70-200 f2.8 which thankfully these low light conditions aren’t much of a problem.
Make iso low then make aperture wide and shutter speed high because of moving shots then if you fell dark then turn up your Iso but dont do too frequent because its add noise
