You should do a video on Airheads (1994) with Brendan Fraser, Adam Sandler, and Steve Buscemi. It’s a pretty solid comedy but the movie has sort of become forgotten about.
I actually grew up in the town that Trapped in Paradise was partially filmed in (coincidentally the same filming location for An American Christmas Carol - Elora, Ontario). Here's a random story... at one point in the film there's a three-legged dog that appears. That dog, Tripod, belonged to the local doctor. The crew saw the dog & his owner watching them filming once & decided to put Tripod in the film.
@@GerardPerry I haven't been up there up in some time (I live in Maryland) I saw some of my friends a few years ago. I'd like to check out Queen Esther when I have the time.
According to Jon Lovitz in an interview with the AV Club Nicolas Cage really did take over directing because George Gallos was telling everyone to do whatever they wanted and that made everyone mad because he wasn’t giving direction on set. Also during the filming of this movie George Gallo wrote Bad Boys with Jon Lovitz and Dana Carvey in mind but his script for that movie was awful and after this movie bombed they rewrote Bad Boys and cast Will Smith and Martin Lawrence instead
Carvey & Lovitz did a Miami FL 🏈 Super Bowl ad for AmEx 💳 which is the reason they were considered for Bad Boys 1994 first. The actors wanted $ so the studio execs re did the story: characters for a younger Will Smith, Martin Lawrence.
I honestly don't think he should get as much flake as he does. There is a GQ interview on here with him, and it's obvious he has a very deep and intimate knowledge and understanding of the art of acting. A lot of the things he does in film is a throw back to much older films or actors. But even without that, as you said, he always puts in effort. Even in all those very low budget movies he so often does now. I kinda wish he would have got some of Liam Neeson's action roles in the last ten years. 90's action Cage was the best :D

This movie used to show up at least once a year back when I used to live in Quebec and I'd watch it with my family and I loved it. While I still think the film is funny, maybe it's just me, but I also feel like there's some surprisingly emotional bits in it because I think at some point in life, some, if not many of us met some people that really are as kind, welcoming, helpful and generous as some of the characters shown in the movie so I think it does kindda have some of that Christmas spirit in it.
i think the premise of the movie is good. the tone and some of the performances are the films two biggest problems in my opinion. i think dana carvey was terrible and just made too many scenes awkward and uncomfortable (and not in a good way like steve carrell on the office).
Yea I felt like it was really sweet in a way and I actually liked the family dynamics as well as the town changing the three brothers. Trapped in Paradise shares a lot of DNA with a movie called "Quick Change", a little-remembered crime comedy from 1990 starring Bill Murray, Geena Davis, and Randy Quaid as bank robbers trying (and failing) to get out of New York City before they're busted. If Hats Off hasn't covered it yet, "Quick Change" would make a great case study for Almost Cult Classics.

It definitely needed to be a little tighter in terms of plot and is messy at moments, but it also has a really fun story which ultimately makes me love to watch it every once in a while. Really appreciate your channel!
I was 19 when this came out and I saw it on a whim. I watched it repeatedly over the years on hbo and Cinemax and still enjoy it now. It's not what I'd call a good movie but it is an enjoyable movie.
I was a kid when this movie was being filmed in Niagara-on-the-Lake and I can still remember all the fake signs and stuff they put up on the downtown storefronts. I guess it must have been filmed in the summer. The Dead Zone, based on the Stephen King novel, was also filmed in NOTL
Saw this when it originally came out. An exciting cast for the time. I still thought it was good but with a cast like that it could have been a masterpiece. I've always looked at it as a classic, even though its a forgotten one. I still think one of the funniest scenes is when Richard Jenkins sees the 3 legged dog hobble out at the end and says: "We didn't do that did we?"
Movies like this are what should be getting remakes. A solid and fun premise that could easily be fixed with some rewrites and good talent. PS You would obviously need to bring Cage back. Give Lovitz and Carvey cameos as locals or maybe on the parole board.

This movie felt like an SNL film from a skit that never existed. A movie starring these three COULD have worked though in the right creative hands. I believe that
I live in one of the towns that this movie was filmed in, Niagara-On-The-Lake. It was kind of a big deal at the time it was filming, an uncle of a friend of mine actually ended up as an extra in it (I believe he was one of the police officers in the police station scenes). I, unfortunately, didn't get to see the movie until it was out on video, but my family had a blast picking out all the familiar landmarks. The bank was the old courthouse (it also served as a theatre for a while, part of the Shaw Festival), the restaurant they end up in after robbing the bank is The Stagecoach Restaurant (known affectionately by the locals as "The Roach"), and the bank manager's house is someone's actual house in NOTL (it's not far from the courthouse). Speaking of familiar locations, my old high school, Niagara District Secondary School, served as the police station I mentioned earlier. It's actually kind of weird because they really didn't dress it up that well and it's still very obviously a high school. The main office of the police station is the school's gym, and in some scenes you can still see our mascot, the Trojan, printed on some background objects. A couple other memories I have: At one point, a fuel truck labeled "Gales Fuels" passes the camera during a long shot. Gales is a chain of gas stations prevalent in the Niagara region, and the Gale family lives in Niagara-On-The-Lake. The original owner, Bob Gale, is now a councilor for the city of Niagara Falls. His daughter took over the business from him. The other memory I have is that, while filming, there wasn't enough snow on the ground, so the prop department had to used potato flakes to simulate it. After filming finished, any leftover potato flakes started turning green and moldy, which kind of left a lot of people annoyed and grossed out.

This was tonight’s movie as I stumbled under upon it on Disney+. The movie just didn’t do it for me at all, but to each their own it seems it’s more well known and loved then I thought. I was 8 when this movie come out and do not recall it ever coming out or hearing about it.

Does this guy realise that Alvin is supposed to be ret... mentally challenged? A total of three characters in the movie are, and they make good fun of them, each in their own way. Cool! I just watched this on monday. Good movie.
Last year I started a tradition of watching 12 nights of Christmas Movies counting down to Christmas. They also had to be 12 movies I have never seen before.
This was tonight’s movie as I stumbled under upon it on Disney+. The movie just didn’t do it for me at all, but to each their own it seems it’s more well known and loved then I thought. I was 8 when this movie come out and do not recall it ever coming out or hearing about it.
I hope "the night they saved Christmas" from 84' is on your list, best Xmas tv movie ever
Uh, this is an underrated CLASSIC, not an Almost Classic. It belongs in anyone's Christmas movie collection. Along with The Ref.
Lol, I literally just referenced The Ref in my comment too. That one is probably even more overlooked. Came out in the same year too.
@@benbeesley4277 The only thing that sucks about The Ref is that Kevin Spacey is now well-known to be a total creeper (to say the very least). Otherwise I think of it the same as I do TiP, underrated gems of the '90s that I'm always trying to get people I know to watch. :-)
This and "Mixed Nuts" make for a good double feature
Yes ❤
I just watched this last night. Love this movie, Alvin is the best 😂
I rented this once when I was a kid. Haven’t watched it since. I’ll have to check it out again.
I LOVE this movie thanks for talking about it!
I saw this in the movies it's opening week... I loved this from the first time I saw it and still quote it to this day... it's zany and ridiculous... the performances are exaggerated and over the top... the plot is crazy and I think it's all hysterical... I still can't see scallions in a dish without yelling out, "it's got SCALLIONS"!...
I still say, "alright you fashion queen"!... absolutely consider this a classic ... Fine Holiday Fun! 🎅🤶☃️🌲🤣
I remember loving this as a kid, but I’ve never re-watched it
I actually never seen or heard of this movie. Thanks for sharing!
Another great video. I'll haven't seen it came out on video. Thank you for the recommendation
Classic tradition in my family. It's just a fun and ridiculous movie.
i remember seeing this in the theatre. i really still enjoy this movie.
Does this guy realise that Alvin is supposed to be ret... mentally challenged? A total of three characters in the movie are, and they make good fun of them, each in their own way. There's even a great scene where the town sheriff refers to his son as "slow", and the son and Alvin make some kind of connection like "we're the same". Shit they'd never get away with today.
I ended up watching this the another day as it's on Disney Plus now.
"I took four lefts."
"FOUR LEFTS IS A CIRCLE!"
The newest Christmas Cult Classic to add to your Disney Plus binge. Once they add it of course "It's a 20th Century Fox production after all so the Mouse technically owns it."
Another great movie! I saw your video onA Christmas Story and went downstairs and the damn thing was on. Maybe, this one will be when go down today. Lol
Would you say Mixed Nuts an Almost Cult Classics?
Alvin and ‘Frank’ learned of the bank in prison?! No! It’s Dave, not Frank!
Speaking of Joe Besser, don't forget to do a video on Joe Besser
One of the most underrated Christmas movies with « surviving Christmas » ever.
Paradise, Pennsylvania is a real place. I think it might be a suburb of Philadelphia
I actually watched this in the theater and subsequently forgot everything about the experience until today. So, thanks?
Do one on The Meteor Man from 1993 lol
Oh yea. I borrowed that and Blankman from the library so many times
I'm gonna get you sucka! Lol .... Or 1990s Major Payne. Filmed in Charlottesville VA. 🎬
One Christmas movie I always watch every holiday season
I LOVE this movie. i watch it every few years... you just have to suspend disbelief a bit. Cage, Lovitz and Carvey are fabulous on their own and together are a fun treat.
I loved this movie when I first saw it at 9. Dana Carvey was Garth, I loved the Critic, and Cage I knew mostly from Honeymoon in Vegas. It seemed like a no-brainer.
