I see a lot of other youtuber did the same thing. 2 questions: 1. I used my own clip and I used just a part of the main theme song in avenger, is that fair use? 2. Fair Use is not a science, it is an art. And what one person thinks is valid and can be used, YT has the ultimate say whether they agree or not. AND let's just be honest and say that YT is cracking down on just about everything that might even slightly resemble a copyright violation. Hi, Ian. This is my favorite fair use game video, so far. One question: when you say that celebs' images sell things, are you referring to their faces on DVD, CD, book, and poster covers?
The music policy page can only be taken as a rough guideline as to what is the most likely thing to happen. You may get a claim this week, and two years later that claim turns into a strike. You can't really avoid the problem. Also, the copyright owners do not need to take the same action for different channels. They can monetize a song on one channel, block it on another and take it down on another. If you are going to upload copyright infringing content on RUclips, you just need to accept the risks. If you keep uploading these videos, your channel will likely get terminated at some point (though that might be several years down the line). Strikes for songs are fairly rare. As you add more videos, however, the risk accumulates with each video added. If you just want to have a bit of fun uploading videos for a while, it is fine, but don't become too attached to the channel. - RUclips Expert I think this comment is a bit unfair. If the music company wants to change from one day to another, I think there should be a warning without anyone getting into trouble. At the time the of the upload it was okay to use the song and now that it is not, thats a bit unfair when the person uploading is not trying to make any money off the video. Plus small channels under the 1000 subs and 4000 watch hours really can't monetize anyway, so why would someone care about that until they make it big? 1. On the music policies page, the information for each song states that the copyright owner can take action that is different from the stated policy at any time. So...that is what is happening. The music policy page should not be MISTAKEN for a kind of permission or a license. 2. If a song is not on the music page that does not mean it is free to use. You need to contact the copyright owners of the recording (and, unless the song is old enough to be in the public domain, the composition). - RUclips Expert I remember in one of your videos you said we could go and look at what song we were aloud to use. You gave the example of Rihanna and how it says you can't upload any of her music. The rest however will determine by what is says when you look up the song. I am a bit confused what we really can do then. Your video above makes a lot of sense, but for someone like what I am doing, I have no intent to sell on videos where music from an artists music is play, however that doesn't mean I won't want to in the future. I make dance fitness videos and to show my choreographies with the songs, so people be able to follow along. I don't do that because of copyright, I just show the choreography, where other channels are doing what I want to do and they are monetizing. I don't advertise my classes or where I am teaching. So Ian is a way around using songs like this and being able to monetize a portion or use my choreographies to monetize using the song?
Yeah I would just stay with the choreography. As you remember RUclips’s rules and regulations are different than actual copyright law. It is really difficult to get longform copyrighted music into your videos. RUclips will pick it up and either a content claim will be made or a copyright strike will be issued.
@@iancorzine actually, RUclips has detected copyright songs in some of my videos. They haven't given me a strike or claim, but rather send me a message saying they detected it, they are monetizing it and sending the money to the owner and specifically say that I'm not in any trouble. So maybe that depends on who's song it is? .....
Hi, can I ask is it possible to monetize the channel doing music compilations with CC music in 2020? With no strikes or claims....all music is weather has CC license or is permitted to publish by the owner. The videos are not black screen, there are nice pictures, sometimes videos....i’ve heard YT stopped slowing monetezation for this kind of channels. Is it true? Thank u for answering.

The whole problem is that David Dobrik has a big following and RUclips makes a lot money from the material he produces. So RUclips makes money and any copyright holders also make money. So he pretty much can do what he wants. Seems kind of unfair, huh?? It is. 😮
