JEAN CARNE - " Bet Your Lucky Stars " @ Manoir de Fourcy, 7 octobre 2012

Soirée de prestige dans le Nord avec la venue de l'immense Jean Carne, icône du son de Philadelphie (Philly Sound) et véritable référence de la Soul moderne.
A 65 ans passés la Diva n'a rien perdu de son énergie !
Après une féconde collaboration avec son ex-mari Doug Carn sur 3 albums spirituels exceptionnels pour le label Black Jazz, Jean a décidé, au milieu des années 70, de se "ré-in-carne-r" en icône disco-soul sous la houlette de Kenneth Gamble et Leon Huff.
Certes le son est plus léger et plus commercial, laissant les amateurs de jazz comme moi un peu nostalgique de sa période Black Jazz, mais ne boudons pas le plaisir d'apprécier cette voix oh combien talentueuse à travers l'excellent "Bet Your Lucky Stars", morceau positif et entraînant. (album "Sweet and Wonderful ", 1981)

Biography on Discogs :
Born on 15.03.1947 in Columbus, Georgia, USA.
Her voice has a wide five octave range.
She began her recording career with her then-husband, pianist Doug Carn, founder of Black Jazz Records.
They recorded three early 70's albums together.
Then she started doing back vocals for the likes of Earth, Wind & Fire and Norman Connors.
In 1977, she debuted solo, playing a crucial role in the golden era of Philly soul, with Gamble & Huff and McFadden & Whitehead producing and writing for her, as well as Dexter Wansel.
Between 1977 - 2005 she has released nine studio albums.
She has dueted with Glenn Jones, Al Johnson, Niteflyte, Michael Henderson, Grover Washington, Jr., and The Temptations.
