Reflecting on the virgin births of Jesus, Perseus, Buddha, Genghis Khan, Horus, Krishna, Mercury, Romulus, the Aztec God Huitzilopochtli, and for my vegan friends, the Phrygian god of vegetation - Attis, among others, I just love history and the stories that are created as placeholders until scientific discovery takes its place. Unfortunately, many fail to see fiction for what it is.
Hitch ens like me is along the lines there is no evidence for any of the thousands of claimed gods so far proposed by man kind, And sadly so many just assumed one of the many as real with zero verifiable evidence for their claim.
The forces that created the almost infinite universe didn't knock up Joseph's girlfriend with Yahweh so we could kill him to atone for sins committed last week. Everything else is moot. It does not matter if a human carpenter existed. There is no reason to play the game.
It is not good enough for one to just stop at the history 2000 years ago but to go back further and also go study reverse engineering technics as the patterns are so obvious moving from one to the next and so on over thousands of years trying to out do the prior by not just plagiarizing from one but many in the attempt to over power the former belief systems. Just think if Mohamad had not been a wealthy businessman at that period, Islam would have likely faded due to not having the level of exposure from the name recognition of a wealthy person taken it forward. Good reading material "The Egyptian Book of the dead" is a good start for many.
Wow! This guy certainly made some statements that were point blank set to cause fire as it were. As much as I know each Gospel were written by different individuals and also some years between them. Google even states that The Gospel of Mark probably dates from c. AD 66-70, Matthew and Luke around AD 85-90, and John AD 90-110... For any record made some years after an event they are pretty solid in what they say. (but just my opinion. As for being under occupying forces.. in that case the Mighty Roman army who were brutal by some records. And were despised by many within the state. Many had risen up against the romans and failed, one such was I think Barabus? Who was set free when Jesus was before Pilate. etc... Interesting topic indeed, I always understood any hatred or sislike by the people of that time towards the occuping army, because Of our own history having been under British rule for many many years.
Remember Mark and John had later additions to their text, Mark's ending and the parable of the adultress in John. I wouldn't trust the gospel account of Pilate, he is portrayed as bending over backwards to please the Pharisees in the Bible but Roman records say he was removed from Judea for his brutality by one of the most brutal humans ever. The problem with the people writing about Jesus are not first person accounts. It’s always what someone said about Jesus…
