- Let's take a look at the @bastlinstruments SOFTPOP 2. This mono synth and its intuitive sequencer are unique in the synth world. Might this be the perfect semi modular synth?

A super super fun instrument! I love jamming on it, very stoked you made a video on it, your videos are always helpful!
It sure is fun! I can't wait to use it more with the rest of my Euro setup.
Lovely presentation! I absolutely adore my sp2, I think I'd pick it for my desert island synth cause it's like a little creature best friend and so fun to play.
Wilson I need some filthy beats
Thanks!!! It is indeed a great synth!
Excellent tutorial, have just bought a SP 2, this is very helpful, thanks very much!
Thanks, glad it was helpful!
Enjoy your SP2 :)
Whoa! This thing is crazy😮
Hell yeah!
This very quickly became my favorite synth and i have a bunch already. Excellent excellent gear.
Yeah, it's just such an interesting and different approach!
@@SONWU it also teams up well with other synths. 😃👍 but yeah it's an oddball. Really diverse sounds you can get from it in a tiny package.
will investigate further!@@infn8loopmusic
Yes 🙌 a great machine great explanation of device
Thanks! It is indeed a great little synth, a box full of fun :)
Great video on this insane instrument! Everyday is a new day with the Softpop SP II
Thanks! I am glad you are enjoying your SP2 too :)
I just got my Softpop 2 today after getting to play with one at Knobcon. Such a cool instrument. I just want to play with it, and I mean that in the most literal sense of the word. It seems to encourage just playing with it and experimenting, finding little things that lead to creative new sounds.
I can't remember who it was that referred to it as such, but I agree that it acts as an analogue modular groovebox. I can take it and just build a jam on it that I think could easily fall in line with other pieces of gear for a more complete setup, and I feel like I could have a blast doing so.
It definitely is a modular groovebox. Really a perfect semi-modular synth!
Great video.
Thank you!
Son wu has the soft pop 2… excellent
Yes indeed!
Great video - it works great with midi in to sequence the patterns through external key changes - it will play through harmonies not just the scales you programme
That sounds cool…gotta try that out!
I find this video very helpful, I sometimes use the Microgranny by Bastl...that's crazy too!
Thanks, glad this is useful to you!
super interesting. ive grown more and more interested in exploring analog modular synthesis in my music and i was wondering if youve compared the sp2 with the 0-coast from make noise? both seem really cool to me but i cant quite decide which i should invest in first.
Great video!
Quick question: I noticed that during the sequencer section, there seems to be a bit of "jitter" in the pitch, even when the sequence is all the same note. Is this due to the pitch mod slider not being all the way down or is there some issue with pitch stability? Not that it really matters too much for a device like this where uncertainty is kinda part of the charm :D
That must be the pitch mod, pitch is stable!
In fact I think I'm using the digital oscillator here…which should be 100% stable I guess :)
Sometimes I have to hold trig and hit play several times before it registers for me to delete the motion recording. I wonder if the buttons wear out a bit over time...
maybe some deoxit could help?
@@SONWU good idea!
Did you have to change the switch on the circuit board or can you switch from digital to analog without opening it? Thank you
Hi,
I didn't have to change anything, as my unit came shipped with the latest firmware (digital). I think all new units come like that now.
If not, I think you have to open it up…shouldn't be too difficult though!
Ive seen it used. I do as i see on the vids.....But still cant really catch the how in a way that makes sense. Any pointers?
Thank you for this video, very cool ! this gear look crazy, but I feel like the sequencer is creating hard-on-grid-patterns, like… maybe too much on grid ? is there a way to syncope or twist rhythmics a bit ?
My pleasure! It is on the grid for sure…no swing function as far as I am aware…but I think if you wanted something like that you could sequence from another source.
It's a magnificent device either way.
Yes
YES!
The multi that is.
It just means it will multiply your signal. So whatever you put into 1 of the 4 will come out of the other 3. Hope this makes sense
Build quality looks like a korg nts1 ...is there an Info about the case ...i mean 600 Euro for a big nts1 ?
Thx
This is very different from a NTS-1…apples & oranges.
Built quality is more than adequate though. Yes, it's PCB material, but everything is solid.
👍i LoVe !

Hey!
I’ve used both of them and my preference would be the SP2…it is easier to get musical results going. I would call it a modular groovebox, as you can easily quantize to musical scales and therefore get something useful out of it (even without patching).
The 0-Coast may be better in terms of raw sound, but also has less tools on board.
Either way, don’t go modular…it’s a money drain ;)
@@SONWU thats really helpful feedback. since i have so many groove boxes of various types (ko2, pocket operators, op1f etc) and im aspiring to have as little overlap as possible in my rig while still getting my feet wet in some deep analog synthesis, i think im leaning towards the 0-coast because of the sonic exploration possibilities intrigue me substantially
@@djcuvcuv I understand the sentiment…it's easy to collect grooveboxes :)
