How To Make A Tubular Key For Harbor Freight Yukon Toolbox - Same Lock Tech Used On Harley Davidson

- The lock shown in this video belongs to a Harbor Freight Yukon toolbox. The keys for this lock were lost. I show you how to disassemble the lock, and measure the pins in the lock to determine how the key should be cut. There is a number on the face of the lock, which appears to be a key code, but I wasn't able to determine the correct cuts for the key using the key code. Maybe Harbor Freight has this information, but I'm not sure. I think you can order new locks and keys from Harbor Freight.
Many Harley Davidson touring motorcycles use the same tubular lock technology as seen in this video. However, I think the locks are constructed differently than the lock in this video, so you may need to use a different technique to disassemble and reassemble the lock. I believe Harley Davidson tubular locks use seven different size pins for their locks, unlike the eight different sized pins used in this Harbor Freight lock. Harley Davidson keys have a key code stamped on them, but Harley Davidson does not release the key code information to the public.
That’s a PITA. Thanks for sharing.
Bought a Yukon rolling tool box with missing keys. Went to a locksmith to cut new keys but the cost was way too much so I just ordered new locks. Much easier.
Can I ask what you paid for the locks and how may locks and keys did it include?
@@smallengineshop Not who you asked but basic cylinder cam locks are about $10 with two keys. Ones that use standard keys range $5-15. Any hardware store has them. You can purchase sets keyed alike from Amazon or Zoro/Grainger, the cost of getting more keys made ends up close to the cost of a whole new lock set.
So many things wrong here+:
1. Hold lock while punching starter dimple.
2. Hold lock while drilling hole.
3. Hold tap with locking pliers to ensure non slip grip on tap rather than a tap holder
4: Make sure you fold the paper enough times to make enough valleys for the number of pins
Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that a key code on the face of the lock?
Yes, but I couldn't decode it. Maybe only Harbor Freight can use the key code. Not sure
Wow
Too much trouble to fix a Harbor Freight POS.
Just buy a new set of locks and be done.
