This show is just pure substance over style,. I don't mean to say that it's not well produced or styled but it's a level above almost all other NFL content out there - great stories and insights. This channel deserves a lot more attention!
@@kflow1379 Lombardi's main complaint is that he is biased when talking about his friends during media bits. He's by all accounts a pretty good football guy andhas worked in the league long enough to have relevant takes.
37:32 When they talk about stance, and why having the right hand down helped the DE get a good third step to turn into the tackle and get a better angle, that is the kind of insight and information that is missing in the NFL broadcasts. The hype is all generalities "quick off the edge" or "freak athletes", but they never talk about the technical stuff, why sometimes DE's play out Wide 9 tech instead of 7 or 5, 3 point vs 4 point, hand in the dirt or not, etc. That is the kind of stuff I would personally like to see more of.
This is the kind of stuff life long players like myself love to talk about in our sport but most of the time if you put that on "paper" in a comment people think you are being an armchair expert. I could wax poetic about body control and movement feints in soccer, how to get defenders out of position as an off the ball player, etc etc and a lot of that translates to concepts NFL coaches have borrowed to add to their schemes. WR route running is perplexingly similar to how strikers in Europe run off the ball carrier to confuse defenders, who much like NFL DBs do their job with their back to goal from a mostly static position.
While I agree with you, the average NFL fan knows so little about how the sport actually is played. More than any other of the 4 major sports, the average football fan is the most clueless to the actual game. It's kind of crazy, really.
That was great. I really appreciate the look at the basics, like tackling. It really helps in being informed about what's going on in a play. Good episode!
By our standards but not the rulebook. That same year, it happened vs the Pats when they played the Jets. Bill just made sure it was called again. Very, very stupid rule though, glad it's gone lol
It was such an obvious incomplete pass that Walt Coleman's FIRST thought was, "Tuck Rule." Not, "I wonder if that was Tuck Rule," not, "this is tricky," but he took ONE LOOK at went, "Tuck Rule." And yes, it happened to the Patriots earlier that year playing the Jets.
Brady’s left hand touches the ball. It was a pump. There’s no world where he throws a ball with his left hand on the ball. I know it’s the correct call by letter of the law at the time. But it’s a common sense fumble. Either way, it’s great to watch this stuff.
What I’d love is to see coach show the evolution of offenses and defenses through football history. That Inside the NFL clip with BB, C Long, Ocho and Clark going from Shanahan to Kubiak to Kyle and Clint was rad, but going before them all the way to Lombardi would be interesting. Air raid and spread etc. Then doing that with his defense, Fangio, etc would be great.
I have traveled overseas to play rugby many times. Every coach i had, we were practicing in a couple hours off the plane. Not only Britain but New Zealand and Australia. Man going down under is tough. Coming home is worse 😫
I think Bill doing a show from London for a week would be great. And while he is here, so many places he could see when not under the pressure of being here as a HC! There are deep military histories here along with the museums!
the China bowl during the 2007 season would’ve been something. I think the NFL could pull something like that off, but it would make more sense to do back-to-back weeks against a divisional opponent. That flight is no joke though.
I feel like I was invited into a private meeting room deep in some stadium where I get to see how the greatest NFL coaching mind honestly evaluates and shares his insight on many football subjects...WOW- what a privilege!
I feel teams misevaluate college players because they match tangibles to plays made. Such as he’s big and tall and fast and had 7 sacks. I feel the miss on evaluating pure instincts, fundamental understanding of position, and also if they look fast on film. How long and agile you are really effects the 40 time. So an end could run a 4.6 but close to side line extremely quick from having length, natural instincts and natural ability. You can’t coach that. I just feel teams over value tangibles when the difference between a 6’2” 265lb DE or 6’5” 285lb DE is negligible when you look at those who can play and those who can’t.
@donovanc.7484 oh my god I'm so glad someone commented so I could see this. I was thinking about this as soon as I heard about it this morning. I'm a Rodgers fan, but Ulbrich said this morning that he and Aaron said they needed to embrace change. Hopefully they change the offense. Maybe those changes maybe should have been made by Saleh though? Idk. I stand corrected though😅
@timmoore6532 I was thinking about this post today. They're not out of the woods yet. I'm a Belichick fan. Rodgers needs a Head coach and OC that he respects. Talk about the perfect follow-up game. Bills vs. Jets on Monday. Both teams need a win. Should be very interesting. I'm listening to the Bills radio station. They're roasting their Head coach.

Matt Patricia does good job as moderator!
This is a must watch show!
Patricia is definitely impressive in this setting.

This is the reason why Bryce Huff isn’t doing well with the Eagles. Playing a different technique and position than he did with the jets.
Really well said I agree

Most fans don’t care. They want/can process 100 Intro level teaching. This is like 200/300 level with Professor Belichick.

Excellent show for fans who want to keep learning about the game from the very best.
“Of course they have no timeouts”
Dig at McCarthy lmao
LaFlueur was the coach at the time but yeah McCarthy has terrible clock management 😂
@@AirJonahProdMcCarthy also does a lot of stupid challenges, I think sometimes he just likes to throw the challenge flag to spite the refs.

Man love this show. Bill Belichick is unequaled.
Might be my favorite episode
Interesting how inquisitive Bill was during the College Pass Rusher segment. Almost like he was filing things away for future reference.
exactly
And he was truly seeing all the line, not just the player, all the motions. I get the impression that he sees more that he let us know right there.

Sai’vion Jones could be the next Michael Bennett with a mix of Adalius Thomas. It’s possible.

Why does Matt Patricia seem like a broadcast professional/host?

Oh man, hearing that opening scene with Lombardi. I swore I clicked on a Joe Rogan video.
I know BB hates the jets but he’s loving Rodgers and to get back at the pats I can see him taken over for Salah 🤔
Bill is awesome at this as well as coaching. I'm a Vikes fan, but I'm really enjoying seeing Bills personality away from coaching.
