That was overall a fantastic night of darts. I like both Dimi and Ross Smith a lot and they played brilliantly in that first match, such a tense battle that could have gone either way. Ryan Searle put in the performance of the entire round, besides that penultimate leg, that was literally perfection all the way through. Peter Wright put in a solid performance and hopefully we can see him at that level consistently again coz it makes for some great darts. Final match was bang on average after the first 10 legs but after the second break, they both turned it up and it brought about a great end to the match. Now onto the second round and the matches just get better and better. Cant wait for round 2 tomorrow with some tasty encounters in there. Price v Cullen could be an absolute belter. Theres literally no easy matches in the World Matchplay, every match looks so competitive on paper which is why i think its the best tournament on the calendar.
Searle looks like the best player in the world when he's on. Just wish he could do it more consistently!

Ryan searle is so underrated in my opinion, when he’s on his A game. He’s throws some unbelievable darts 💪🏽

@@relevant_jens indeed , he loves this tournament & has already been in 2 finals + 1 semi-final ( he should have never lost that one against MVG ) in the last 3 editions . With the level of consistency he is showing + high power scoring , he could get into the Quarters + semis . Clayton wasn't impressive at all yesterday .....

Barney has had difficulty against Searle in the past, so I wasn't too shocked to see him bow out against Searle again here.
Gutted for Ross Smith, Dimitri was just that much better than him, especially on the combination finishes and doubles.
Clemens had major difficulties with the doubles, and that made it all the easier for Jonny to oust him.
What a tournament so far!
Dimi and Smith had such a great match and the sportsmann ship of them is lovely❤

Wow. I throw 32g. After a while they feel like javelins. Good on Searle if he can master such weighty arrows.
Dimitri played a solid game , consistent in the averages and hitting more doubles than usual !! Great level - that last leg with the 2 180'S was Fabulous !!! let's welcome The Ferret in round 2 ( who won by averaging 82 most of the time ,except the end ) .
Dimi v Smudger one of the best battles so far. Searle made it look too easy. Snakebite comes up clutch and Clayton had a close one!

Peter Wright has to do well in this and/or other biggies this year or he could find himself out of the Top 5 at best and the Top 12 at worst, which could, I say could, mean not getting in the Prem next season and being at risk of losing out on a few other tournaments. That might lower his sponsorship appeal. In essence, this year is a big investment for him, make or break.
after the world matchplay he cant see him self out of the Top5. He just could be the number 3. But after the world cup… that could end in a desaster

I watched a little bit of that match today, and I could tell Clemens was having a lot of difficulty with the doubles.
Clayton is the far superior player Clemens is not even close to Clayton's quality

Clayton pretty much played his C-game , if there was any time he couldve been beaten it was in that match. Sad for Gaga.

Dimi started celebrating more after Ross Smith started celebrating for example a double 2 and when he even celebrated a 13 scored 🤦♂️🤷♂️

this is just speculation on my end, but I could imagine that this is his attempt to become a louder and more entertaining player, after he didn't get the PL nomination last year which he felt he deserved but didn't get - maybe partly due to the fact that the PDC doesn't think he's one to fill stadiums.
personally i don't think it suits him and it looks very forced, while ironically he himself still remains faceless and a bit weird to me. good player nonetheless.
@@AuchNLauch He didn't get the PL nomination because he is nowhere near the highest places on the OOM. Humpy, Chisnall and a few others would have been ahead of him for sure. Yelling won't change that, while winning might. Anyway, people blow things out of proportion in this sport, because it is the player up there on his/her own and it all gets magnified. If that were football nobody would bat an eyelid, even for a tap in after 3 minutes, celebrating is the right of the player/s, but as part of a team it looks normal, when on a stage exposed like this it comes across differently. Smith is entitled to be himself, you can't keep everybody happy, there will always be fans who hate this player and hate that player, etc. If he toned it down then other fans would start to say he was dull and one dimensional.
