- Thomas The Tank has a new risky rails scrapyard escape train set that's based off the Thomas & Friends film Journey Beyond Sodor. Thomas has to do a daring escape in a nightmare scrapyard, he crosses a dangerous cable bridge, nearly gets crushed by a giant gear and tries to avoid a machine thats set to steal his cargo. In the good old days this would have been just another special special delivery but these days we need thrills and stunts to keep Thomas alive. This Thomas Trackmaster playset comes with a Jungle Theme grubby Thomas that has a cheery custom face. He looks like he's having fun, not escaping a dangerous scrapyard. This playset needs some resetting while playing, the good news is Thomas can still make it around without a full reset as long as he stays travelling in one direction. This Thomas toy is colourful and exciting to look at, has lots of play action and will have your children investigating how many trains and rolling stock they can manage on this very risky railway. The real Thomas excitement builds up when you add more wagons and characters. Percy and Devious Diesel join the battle on the scrapyard and the real joy of playing starts to evolve. But who is ever going to see an invisible jungle Thomas who shows us that sometimes the best parts to a Thomas toy is the plastic bubble packaging that protects Thomas before he comes out to play. The other Trackmaster playset featured is Thomas Trackmaster Fiery Rescue Set. It's a different style of train set that came with a cool steam Rescue theme Thomas. I'm hoping my toy reviews lets you decide which playset suits your style of play. I suggest you buy them both. Mr Mattel will love me for saying that!
My advice it to shop on Amazon to buy playsets like this, I have found it very difficult to find Thomas Trackmaster playsets.
Thomas Trackmaster has had a curious history, it's worth a little read!
In 2007, HIT Entertainment's subsidiary HIT Toy Company picked up the license to produce the Thomas Motor Road and Rail range. The TrackMaster engines were compatible with Tomy's Motor Road and Rail merchandise. TrackMaster's light brown coloured track was easily connected to the previous blue track from TOMY by track adapters, which were included in every set until new releases after 2008. An innovation in this range was special editions of certain engines, including remote-controlled and face changing variations. In 2010, the rights were put under the ownership of Fisher Price. In 2014, the range was redesigned and heavily simplified. Engines are faster and run on new grey track system that has many different track components. The engines can climb up steeper inclines but the new Trackmaster 2 is only semi compatible with Classic Trackmaster trains.

Honestly I think this set is quite astounding compared to all the other sets that require constant resets it's quite refreshing to just be able to watch it go round instead of having to reset it for it to work yes it has its flaws but in a way it reflects back on how sets use to be where you just sat back and watched

I've got a large collection of Thomas motorized sets back when this sort of things was part of tomica trains. The track was always blue

Let's face it. Thats a pretty common reaction.
Shed 17 gave me nightmares. And ever since I saw it, I make sure I NEVER watch or accidentally press a video about Shed 17. And since I'm on tablet I use my finger to look at the videos. And I was like 8 or 9 when I saw Shed 17. I'm pretty sure I was 9 but I don't remember. And btw I'm 10 right now.

I love that play set so much
After recently seeing Journey Beyond Sodor, I can safely say that the cable bridge part has never happened at all in the movie.
But that doesn't make this a bad movie based train set. I actually like how it can handle 3 to 4 car trains for the most part.
This is a set that I look forward to getting.
Thanks. Many people have said this to me and I really don't know why this playset has the connections to the film. It must be a marketing ploy. Put it this way it fooled me.

Hey Leo, I've noticed your interest into the old Misty Island bumpy track, and I think you should know about this. Just put little bits of clay (NOT BLUE TACK) onto the track, and it will be bummpppyyy.
I loved that bumpy track.
If you look I think the other engines may be longer. I think the packaging designer simply didn't know which engine the playset would ship with, or the cargo was not finalized when it was designed. Or it may be available in other areas with other things. It may simply be they were asked to include it for some reason. Most of my toy knowledge comes comes more for people I know in the doll world, but those are some reasons packaging may have extra space.

Well I have only been doing this for 10 years. Put it this way if they do contact me I'll just reply your 10 years too late. I have helped sell many of their toys without a simple thanks from the very big company that is Mattel. Maybe that how they treat everyone, but I think it's wrong. Moose Toys, Brio, The Reject Shop and Dyson are the only companies to do the very simple thing of saying thanks for looking over our products.

Journey beyond sodor is my favorite movie
Trackmaster 2 looks sooo cheap, but as you have shown it clearly isn't, at least not in Australia. The track looks like dark side stuff. However I imagine children would love the gimmicks these kind of sets have.

I Think this set is barilliant. I can't stop looking at that cable track and that cog pick-up zone. I like the idea of multi-coloured track with the metallic fleck in it it catches my eyes better than the boring grey track that you seam to see in every set these days. I think that flip section is a waste of plastic. I love the custom Thomas in this set as well. I'm also happy to see some custom faces coming on the models now. So that's my thoughts on this set. Oh and also those characters on the back of the box, Merlan and Hurricane are actually rare models. So if you ever see Merlan or Hurricane on the shelves buy them because they are rare models.
This set looks like much better worth for your money than the Fiery Rescue set. Also, I'm pretty sure that the face on the special Thomas that comes with the set is based on the promotional artwork for Journey Beyond Sodor that's on the box.

this might be my first track master 2 set. I've been waiting for a set that catches my eye and this one seems to do it I'm sad that you can't pull to many cars on it but it looks like a ton of fun

I think having metallic blue track for the whole playset is a good idea. It would make it look more presentable and classy.

I gotta say this is pretty nice for a trackmaster revolution/2 set. The Thomas looks nice and I am so glad that si has a pice of rolling stock as a lot of these action sets seem to be lacking that. Also please keep using the magic wand : )

Love the video, the set looks pretty neat. I actually got that Lava expansion about 2 months ago off of a clearance rack for about $6 at ToysRUs. It was covered in dust, so... It was nice to get for that price.
Normally the TM2 expansion packs sell really well here apart from the spiral set which I like because it has lots of straight and large radius curves that lay flat on the ground. It's weird to see TM2 have two variations of curved elevated track.
+leokimvideo Yeah. I suppose it would sell well in some places more than others. I don't have too much TM2 stuff. Most of the stuff of TM2 I do have I got on clearance. There were only a few things I didn't get on clearance.

For the engines in the stickers, the blue engine is called Lexi, and experimental cab-forward engine, and the orange and black traction engine in the other sticker is called Theo, and experimental traction engine with no real basis. Sadly, Theo isn't being made in Trackmaster, but Lexi will later on (possibly next year for Season 21).

I think Mattel spent way too much money making the Great Race bridge jump set of last year (I bet it was $120 in Australia, $80 in the US!), so they downsized this year's set! Nontheless, It's still entertaining!
