Yes, from my experience you are lucky to even see a doctor. Nurse does everything. Can you tell time? Do you know who the president is? Can you tell the difference between an elephant and a lion? Remember three words for 5 minutes? Have you fallen more than two times in the last month? Can you read the chart? At best, doctor sticks his head in and says, "Hi!" You're on your way! If you say so much as, "Ya know, my right knee hurts a little after I take a walk" BOOM! No longer an annual wellness check. It is a diagnostic visit and you will be billed based on your deductible!
Not really. It's more a meet and greet. Not that doctors remember you nowadays anyways. My doctor always asks, "Who is your primary care?" Well, I've only been seeing you for five years!
This sucks. How can diseases like cancer, anemia, heart attacks, strokes, kidney and liver disease, be prevented if we don't get annual labs? That lady is diabetic. How will she know if she is on track w/out her A1C and other labs? Since they said she has to come back for a separate visit for an A1C, does that mean she has to pay for any labs needed? This sounds like a waste of time and not preventive at all. No wonder there are so many sick seniors out there.
No blood work. What about cholesterol,Or sugar. What a high white blood cell count. There could be all kinds of things overlooked. Do they wait for there to be a problem. How is this prevented medicine
Thanks for this overview. I see its an opportunity to for information exchange. I have questions and concerns that seem to "slip through the cracks" in regular visits. Thank for making this video. 🎯
Contact CMS and your representatives! They know how important a basic annual physical is to longevity. Why have seniors and their agents tolerated loss of this basic coverage?
Basically, they want to know if you are cognitively impaired or a fall risk. That's about it. Oh, and they do an eye test to see if they should take your keys away.
Even if they think you are cognitively impaired or depressed they don't do any follow up. It is checked off the list and they get their payment which is the goal. It has zero to do with the patient's health. Biggest rip off ever.
I feel like I’m being blackmailed! I can’t get the prescriptions filled that I’ve had for years unless I get this hour long visit. I don’t like it! I want a new doctor or hospital.

You need a different health system. They can't "make" you do this visit.if they refuse to fill your prescriptions unless you do - sue them for abandonment.
It stinks but fire your doctor and find one interested in your health, not the stupid wellness visit. Some will hold your scripts hostage but some will not.
Omgosh just went with my husband for one of these. He’s a healthy 67. Still jogs and skis. Holy smokes they ask you things like…can you wipe yourself or need help. I’m not joking. Then the mental stuff and personal stuff about what you keep in your home! This is pure and simple age discrimination and a way to obtain personal information that is not relative. Listen I just lost my 95 year old mother and yes the questions should have been asked to her but not to my vigorous husband. Beware this is an intrusive interview.

I think of the Annual Wellness in this way: once a year I consciously think about my health...how I'm feeling, new aches and pains, changes in sleep, bowel, eating. I make a list of items so I don't overlook them. Since I'm on meds that require annual labs when I call for an appointment I get them to order the work so it's done before my visit. That way we can discuss the results as well as my list of concerns. The hands-on portion of the visit is almost pointless it's so cursory. If I haven't mentioned anything it won't be found during the visit. The Wellness is free and since I have Plan F Supplemental I'm not charged for any diagnostic work but I'm the one pushing for any additional services. Luckily I can still remember the time and the three magic words so I can advocate for myself.
I would recommend this visit for someone that doesn’t visit a doctor’s office very often and realize that this visit is for a snapshot for Medicare. I don’t recommend this visit for someone that has a PCP and visit the PCP every 3,6,or 12 months a year. Because I have health issues and have very good Medical insurance I visit my PCP every 6 months and would hate to waste her valuable time with a visit like this one, besides my PCP goes over the same questions/recommendations plus more at every visit.
You are very fortunate. I see mine every 6 months too and have expressed how I feel about AWV but they are still forced on me. I no longer answer their stupid questions. They can ask and put down anything they want to. A total waste of my time. It is only done for the reimbursement the doctor gets for zero effort.😡
WoW. You are the Doctor! TY for the wonderful video! Can I meet with Dr. Locke? So glad you have the hearing screens! Why doesn't it say what city you are in?
Why waste your time? Fortunately I would have little to say, as far as I know. It seems they want you to wait until you are sick since there are no labs. I haven’t had labs in many years, so no preventative care. Be very careful what you say or ask for as the exam and labs will not be considered a wellness visit. This is lame.
This is a waste of time. Prez Biden won't take the memory test, why should I? Do I have a nightlight, throw rugs, oh any guns? Just another billing opportunity for my Dr.
My risk factors are less when I stay away from healthcare providers.
❤
LOL!
I still don't get the point of it if there are no labs.
Agree.
It's a money maker for the doctors. $250. I don't know how this got included in Medicare. Pure waste.
What to expect, invasive personal questions from a stranger.
These wellness exams are near worthless. Once a year you are insulted with a cognitive assessment.
Patients put more work into those visits than the doctor does!!!

The annual "wellness" visits are a joke. They didn't even check my blood pressure.
They don't check your ears at all.
What I don't get is WHY a 'welcome to Medicare' visit would this be needed if you've been seeing this same PCP for years?
Not really. It's more a meet and greet. Not that doctors remember you nowadays anyways. My doctor always asks, "Who is your primary care?" Well, I've only been seeing you for five years!

Absolutely true.
It's a complete waste of time. The nurse draws a picture of a clock and tells me to draw a certain tine.
I was also given three words to remember and then they never asked me if I remembered them. The next year I was given the same three words!
They are trying to prove to the government you have alzheimers so you can't have a gun.
A complete scam. The patient asks a medical question about her knee and gets blown off. “But take a look at this colorful chart…”
It’s a get into your business appointment.
That patient was 80 lbs overweight, doesn’t that shoot to the top of the list of things to discuss with her?
No refills unless I have the wellness visit.and had a blood draw that was announced at the end of the visit.wasn't told about a blood draw beforehand.
No blood work. What about cholesterol,Or sugar. What a high white blood cell count. There could be all kinds of things overlooked. Do they wait for there to be a problem. How is this prevented medicine
This is like a Saturday Night Live skit.
It's lOL funny.
NP and a Doctor promise.
The NP does absolutely nothing.
Don't see the value in this.

Shill
But Medicare doesn't even cover a yearly exam.
You know you don’t even have to comply with this
Correct. They can ask their stupid questions but I don't have to answer.

I suppose that this is the way everyone on a Medicare advantage plan is treated.
That's being old, just problems and worry, just give me my social security and let me party 😂😂😂😂
Just talk , no blood work , needs to change 😐
This is a waste of time. NoThanks. My time is valuable to me.
Indignity
Mine was a lot different than this one
So was mine. Questions only. Doctor not involved.

They want to see if you are ready for the nursing home.
This is a made up and rehearsed interview. I could not sit there and keep listening to this crap from a nurse practitioner.
Of COURSE this was made up and rehearsed; these were actors. The phrasing is the kind that annoys me no end. In real life they're more subtle.

Too many nosey questions that are none of their business. Going to cancel mine.
Ugh, worst diet advice ever.. They should have her A1C up 10 in no time..
This is a waste of time. Prez Biden won't take the memory test, why should I? Do I have a nightlight, throw rugs, oh any guns? Just another billing opportunity for my Dr.
This is a complete waste of time.
This is an insult and a waste of time.
