When I ended up with Empyema, which I was in the hospital for a month, I began deep breathing, I have to tell you, they weren’t sure I’d make it, deep breathing was so hard, however, with children, grandkids, I was so determined. I’m just getting over double pneumonia. It’s been really, really tough, I have a compromised immune system. She is truly a life saver that I’ve come across. Take her message seriously. Praying for all.
Dobry Dool it wasn’t emphysema, it’s Empyema, the specialists told me it was an airborne I breathed in!!! A third world country infection, it however has caused Emphysema, or the beginnings. Thank you for reading! I will check the info out however. When I had Empyema, the resources I honestly went to was for Emphysema, and also asthma, I needed info, and what they did for these two. What I do, always have, deep breathing. I danced for many years, & taught! They don’t have much info on Empyema. With so many tubes coming out to drain the infection, breathing tubes, I don’t want any one to go through. Thank you for being aware! Much peace. 🕊
Dobry Dool , I’ve thought about smoking these last days!! 😁😉🤗 Kidding!!
I have found that if I can't sleep if I start breathing in real deep, I fall to sleep within no time! I don't even remember how many breaths it takes.
@Dobry Dool the advert goes on for ever. What is this product?

Thank you :)
It is a informative and educational video you should watch whole video. It is not a entertainment video every line she says have some importance so please dont skip directly to exercise.
I am a nurse in the USA. Ms. Gleason thank you for this excellent video on clearing the chest & breathing exercises! You did a wonderful job of explaining the medical physiology & providing instructions for the deep breathing exercises. Also, your calm voice & demeanor are perfect for your role as a physiotherapist.
She is the kindest woman, and I love her sweet disposition. These exercises helped! Thanks for this great video 💙
This lady is so nice. What a wonderful helpful person.
hi
Welcome to the NHS. All the nueces i've seen are so kind & well spoken. Very helpful for not making me panic when getting diagnosed.
She's very good, very clear.
Good vid. There's a nice breathing exercise in the meditation book "30 Days to Reduce Anxiety" by Harper Daniels.
Long live the NHS , long live the Scottish education system and the wonderful unsung hero’s like this incredible lady. x
Indeed my friend. long live the incredible NHS and the wonderful staff that work there.
Cole Brown 💩
I have been attending hospital and never got as good advice as i have listening to this lady👍
ive been sick for the past 2 weeks and all i needed was breathing exercise 😭😭😭 thankful for you i can BREATHE
Thank you so much, Dawn! I have bronchiectasis and see a pulmonologist. I've learned more from watching 2 of Dawn's videos than I have from my doctors. She's addressed some ongoing exercises and techniques that may give me a better quality of life. This video is 6 years old and has 900K views - unbelievable!
I have bronchiectasis as well. What other video of Dawn's did you watch that helped you?
She is so soothing and sweet natured. :) I love her accent.
Yes Victoria, you're right, she has a nice Scottish accent.
Me too.😊
Its British I guess
I ended up here because I have a chest cold and used to rely on medication that thinned the mucus when I’d get sick. But now I live somewhere that doesn’t have that medicine readily available. This was amazingly helpful almost instantly!
I've had a mild, but annoying chest infection on my left lung for 3 weeks now and have been trying to cough up all the phlegm I can. It got to the point though where my stomach and chest muscles became tight and started to hurt a bit and I wasn't getting the phlegm to come up properly. I did one round of these exercises and after the 3rd huff I coughed up a decent amount of phlegm with just one cough.
Thank you so much for this. Hopefully my recovery will be a bit quicker now.
Aw the patient seems so sweet. Really grateful for him volunteering
I'm about 2 days into recovery from Pneumonia, finally getting some strength back, and just looking for ways to help clear some of this stuff up and out of my lungs. I tried these breathing techniques and immediately saw a difference in how much I was able to get out. Thank you very much!
She makes me feel safe and like everything is gonna be ok 💓💓 i wish her a nice life
Spent my whole life with this condition. Thank you
I can prescribe you to Doctor Oseiwe who cured me from #Diabetes' and #Asthma, you can also get in touch with him on RUclips channel Doctor Oseiwe, if you need help and be cured completely🇱🇷.
Thank you Ms. Gleason. I am from India. As far as I am aware, I do not have any chest condition. But I have always had an issue with falling back to sleep if I woke up at night. Your video has helped me a lot. After doing this exercise for 4 or 5 times I usually fall asleep.
I have had very much infections in my lungs during my childhood due to asthma and bronchitis. It's very helpful, thank you very much for the information!!!
This woman is such a great teacher. She explains very clearly. She encourages one to be gentle with yourself and not push. She encourages one to pay attention to your own body and modify according to what your body is saying. She is a great teacher and a great medical professional. You go girl!
With grateful thanks !!
This lady is such a sweetheart and so encouraging.
Excelent advise. Thank you.
She did a great job explaining this in such a charming manor
This is great, took me years to figure this out for myself, years of suffering, this is great, hope it helps others.
Thank you so much, I have been congested for a few years and my doctor never gave me any recommendations like this. I have cleared my lungs already today and feeling better. Going to continue doing this 3 times a day.
I seem to have a really hard time getting junk out of my chest. I cough and cough and produce very little only to feel the rattle in my chest a little later and it starts all over. So thank you for this video, the first time I tried it it really seemed to help make my coughing productive (which will hopefully lead to less coughing)! Can’t wait to try it more.
What a nice lady she is. Helpful but not pushy and so polite. I will try her advice and exercises for sure. Thank you
I’m looking at this doing this coronavirus outbreak.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ADVICE

I am 48 and recently got out of Hospital for dyspnea with blue lips( 02 was 87-88. They couldn't or didn't give me an exact diagnosis. However, they did say it was my lungs. Steroids and antibiotics have me feeling better.. Praise God. Thank You for sharing. I will be using this video to train myself to get stronger. God bless you all.
I can prescribe you to Doctor Oseiwe who cured me from #Diabetes' and #Asthma, you can also get in touch with him on RUclips channel Doctor Oseiwe, if you need help and be cured completely🇱🇷.
Excellent advice, clearly explained, will be trying this from today. Thank you to the lady who presented it, it’s reassuring to see we have such caring people in the NHS, I wish our government valued them more (especially in England where everything is being undermined, underfunded and quietly privatised).
This practical advice is clearly presented and demonstrated to help any one who is suffering with a problem chest infection. I intend to pass on this site to my GP. If she watches it I hope she may pass it on to other patients.
Anyone with Bronchitis or Asthma this is very helpful even to me 8:03
Thank you for the timestamp!!
I am getting asthma due to allergy in August September

wow thank you so much i was coughing to the point of almost passing out. This video really helped me.
This has actually helped me a lot, Ive had problems clearing my lungs for some time now, so glad I found this video. Thank you.
I have problems clearing my lungs also because I have muscular dystrophy
Thanks for the info .very helpful indeed
I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis 1 year ago, although Ive had it most of my life (I cant remember a time when I wasn't coughing up flem. I have naturally learned the huffing technique on my own! I sing music, and doing the breathing exercises for that helped me alot. Also, I do nasal cleanses daily, and drink tea with honey, cinnamon, rosemary, thyme, oregano, and ginger. I probably work out too vigorously, and I learned last year that hard labour doesn't get rid of Pneumonia! I also mostly cut milk, and alcohol out of my diet, as well as using only natural oils for freshening up the house. I even wear a dust mask while sweeping the floor! Great video! Thank you!

What sort of exercise you do?... I too have chronic bronchitis and that lead me to have shortness of breath.. it's been 3yrs yet not much relief at all
Apple cider vinegar lemon and honey and add a pinch of kn pepper.
Enzymes with citrus fruits is supposed to slow mucus production too.
Paul Dunne aloha was just diagnosised with bronchiectasis. What is the recipe for your drink? Thank you
Watching this during the Covid-19 outbreak.
To go out in public with a cough is taking one’s life in your hands, lol.
Me too!
@@jasonstewart7186 Me too! I'm well so far, but just in case.
Lololol same
Me too Ive been sick thought it was over but... now its entering a shortness of breath phase.
I find it enormously helpful to lean right over forwards, even get upside down. This enables gravity to do the work. I have an inversion table, but haven’t had to use it in a long while. I also find a salt inhaler useful.
Thank you very much. You are a God send. I have a chronic respiratory condition, that causes alot of mucus. I will try to these exercise. You are very right. It is good to clear your lungs of phlegm or else it will give you a respiratory infection and that leads to lung scarring. Love this video
did u had any breathing problem , did you clear your lungs from mucus
Do you have to take antibiotics a lot? I'm 57 and have debilitating respiratory issues of always feeling like I have pneumonia. My doctors say there is nothing they can do.
Stop eating gluten and dairy and your lungs will clear.
@@radioactivebanana6774
I don't eat gluten and dairy. I have damaged lungs from severe black mold poisoning and exposure to bad chemicals from my job.
I’m 14 and I think I have chronic bronchitis
I have had congestion due to covid and have had a bit of trouble loosing phlegm. I came across this video and gave it a try. It definitely made a difference and I spit out some phlegm that was stubborn. I will be doing this daily! Thank you! God bless!
I can prescribe you to Doctor Oseiwe who cured me from #Diabetes' and #Asthma, you can also get in touch with him on RUclips channel Doctor Oseiwe, if you need help and be cured completely🇱🇷.

always easy for real ty
Thank you so much! I have never been able to cough out phlegm for my entire life and thanks for your valuable lesson !!
God bless you! I didn’t get a bunch out but it made a difference and I felt the crap moving!
Thank you for this advice, i was diagnosed with Bronchiectasis 2 weeks ago and just given a leaflet to read and joined some facebook support groups, This video however has given me really clear guidelines and i now feel able to attempt some self help techniques. Thank you so much!
I love this nice lady's Scottish accent. I haven't heard the word "peching" outside of Scotland. It's a useful word that fills a gap between "puffing" and "coughing".
Best advice for anyone with bronchitis I've seen....Thank you!
Great video!

OMG!! just your voice and pace is already so soothing! incredible what an effect on the mind it can have !!
3-18-2019 - - - - I'm a retired respiratory therapist (U.S.A) and concur with this video with the following exception: Huffing. As I understand huffing it is done as described here but while exhaling, one should simulate the movement made as if you were saying "huh" three or more times, but without using the vocal cords - keep the airway open without using / closing the glottis (what closes before coughing to compress the lung volume, and is released to do a cough). Think of laughing a short laugh without using the vocal cords. If your condition is not such that an expectorant is contraindicated, I like one of the over the counter medications that contain guaifenesin to loosen phlegm (ask your medical professional about this before using). Follow instructions on the product and/or the advice of your physician.
Thank you for taking the time to add your hard earned nuanced explanation. I am grateful.
Thank you
Would steamer help and friars balsam over steam ,,vick and olbas oil to help clear sinuses
I have bronchiectasis she has given me good advice
Don't cough too much, best advice ever. I used to hack like crazy until I brought something up. Deep breathing helps greatly. Great video, thanks for uploading
This is the most helpful video I've seen on this. Most videos just tell you to take over-the-counter medication. Thank you.
Very useful and helpful video, learnt more watching this than any other medical consultation I have had over the last 5 years.
I have been searching for this much information on my persistent cough. Doc gave me an inhaler and for me in particular, the inhaler has made things worse. There is so much information in this video and i feel super optimistic going forward. Thank you so much for this video
I just want to thank this lady so much them breathing techniques really do help! I wasnt holding my breathe long enough to get all the oxygen/inhaler fully around and to the bottom of my lungs! What a difference it made! Thanks again!
Thank you so much! These breathing exercises have helped me just about as much anything I’ve tried. I appreciate the help very much.
Wonderful, beautiful, kind, and generous. And Tom, what a gentleman. You've both done a wonderful thing, and my life's improved by it all. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart (and my lungs).
With everything going on in the states these days this video was a welcoming comfort for a asthmatic like myself . Thank you so much .
wow those exercises helped me, I get a lot of phlegm am and late pm my left lower lobe has a collapse thank you for your kind advice and help
I too have collapsed areas , how are you now?
This actually helped, did it along with the video and coughed up a good amount of phlegm, then i blew my nose and more came out. Thanks!
I did the same thing!!! My asthma flares up worse in the winter. This video was awesome.
This is great information, it helped me a lot! only thing I would add is to drink a lot of hot tea, this will make the phlegm less thick.
Just follow the exrcise I only try twice the "huff" & I cough(phlegm) thank you NOW I know. Thank you.
smoked for 12 years and i never had a smokers' cough. i've stopped smoking for 3 weeks, and NOW the cough comes, the phlegm is atrocious, difficulty breathing, etc. etc. the worst is coughing out tar.
have you got any reply from the team or not ?
And how'd it go
twofoureights have you tried a Lung Exerciser? I use the BreatheEasy Lung Exerciser. I’ve had breathing problems all my life and this device really helped me.
Ive got difficulty breathing and ive got a terrible cough.
Good thing you quit when you did. Continuing smoking would have made it worse.
This is amazing. Just recovering from Covid. It’s not in my lungs (yet) but ridding my breathing pipe from the mucus must help.
Thank you. Nicely explained and v gentle put forward.
Thnx well explained
@@lutchmeenaidoo330 after my post I ended up going to hospital in an ambulance. Covid had reached my lungs! Christmas Day and I was on oxygen.

Great video, very well explained and such a lovely lady to share it with, thank you🤗

Thank you for your helpful breathing exercises, which as I’m doing these a little already, I’m finding a difference already. Have just been diagnosed with bronciectasis, scarey thing as have always been well & fit. Oh well, guess have to deal with what comes our way.
Your website is so thoughtfully done, so as to give us the proper tools in living & handling this.
Hi , same here! Thought i was a fairly healthy 64 year old until 2 weeks ago! I had an ongoing chest infection and a CT scan showed bronchiectasis! My GP gave me a leaflet to read and said consult him if i started to cough again. I feel like i've been left to get on with it! This video has helped already . All American i hope you are doing ok?

Do these breathing treatments help at the first sign of pneumonia?

This is one decent presentation. A caring & knowledgeable person who, in my opinion, deserves a proper audio for her presentation, instead of the "roomy" noise going on throughout. It wouldn't be difficult to achieve & I'm sorry Lothian hasn't given more professional help with this. Main thing, well done Ms Gleason, wish I could attend your clinic personally. Heed this excellent advice.
Thank you, from America. This was very helpful.

Tested positive for COVID on March 29, was diagnosed with pneumonia on April 10. Nearly seven months later my lungs have not healed. I am going to follow your advice to deal with the phlegm. Thank you!
are your lungs better? if so,, what helped?
@@carolinelee2944 yes they are. I am cycling again, not at the level of intensity that I used to or the mileage. I think what help the most is that I never stopped exercising not matter how slow or long. Still on the Symbicort and still dealing with some phlegm.
I find breathing is usually an advantage
teri day and stopping it will ruin your weekends plans ;)
A high dose of Vitamin C would also be useful and if you take (anti)biotics you should also take a (pro)biotic to put the good bacteria back. Practicing breathing techniques is as good as regular exercise and can help with many diseases and disorders, yoga and tai chi are based on proper breathing and they do wonders for people with ills and promote weight loss, good deep breathing oxygenates the blood and will boost energy levels as well. Also if your over 50 you should take a regular multivitamin and mineral supplement and some extra Vitamin D3 in winter months due to lack of sunlight.
This has helpt me somuch my breathing has been so bad lately to the point I can’t sleep
