When I ended up with Empyema, which I was in the hospital for a month, I began deep breathing, I have to tell you, they weren’t sure I’d make it, deep breathing was so hard, however, with children, grandkids, I was so determined. I’m just getting over double pneumonia. It’s been really, really tough, I have a compromised immune system. She is truly a life saver that I’ve come across. Take her message seriously. Praying for all.

Dobry Dool it wasn’t emphysema, it’s Empyema, the specialists told me it was an airborne I breathed in!!! A third world country infection, it however has caused Emphysema, or the beginnings. Thank you for reading! I will check the info out however. When I had Empyema, the resources I honestly went to was for Emphysema, and also asthma, I needed info, and what they did for these two. What I do, always have, deep breathing. I danced for many years, & taught! They don’t have much info on Empyema. With so many tubes coming out to drain the infection, breathing tubes, I don’t want any one to go through. Thank you for being aware! Much peace. 🕊

I've had a mild, but annoying chest infection on my left lung for 3 weeks now and have been trying to cough up all the phlegm I can. It got to the point though where my stomach and chest muscles became tight and started to hurt a bit and I wasn't getting the phlegm to come up properly. I did one round of these exercises and after the 3rd huff I coughed up a decent amount of phlegm with just one cough.
Thank you so much for this. Hopefully my recovery will be a bit quicker now.

I was diagnosed with bronchiectasis 1 year ago, although Ive had it most of my life (I cant remember a time when I wasn't coughing up flem. I have naturally learned the huffing technique on my own! I sing music, and doing the breathing exercises for that helped me alot. Also, I do nasal cleanses daily, and drink tea with honey, cinnamon, rosemary, thyme, oregano, and ginger. I probably work out too vigorously, and I learned last year that hard labour doesn't get rid of Pneumonia! I also mostly cut milk, and alcohol out of my diet, as well as using only natural oils for freshening up the house. I even wear a dust mask while sweeping the floor! Great video! Thank you!

3-18-2019 - - - - I'm a retired respiratory therapist (U.S.A) and concur with this video with the following exception: Huffing. As I understand huffing it is done as described here but while exhaling, one should simulate the movement made as if you were saying "huh" three or more times, but without using the vocal cords - keep the airway open without using / closing the glottis (what closes before coughing to compress the lung volume, and is released to do a cough). Think of laughing a short laugh without using the vocal cords. If your condition is not such that an expectorant is contraindicated, I like one of the over the counter medications that contain guaifenesin to loosen phlegm (ask your medical professional about this before using). Follow instructions on the product and/or the advice of your physician.

Thank you for your helpful breathing exercises, which as I’m doing these a little already, I’m finding a difference already. Have just been diagnosed with bronciectasis, scarey thing as have always been well & fit. Oh well, guess have to deal with what comes our way.
Your website is so thoughtfully done, so as to give us the proper tools in living & handling this.

Hi , same here! Thought i was a fairly healthy 64 year old until 2 weeks ago! I had an ongoing chest infection and a CT scan showed bronchiectasis! My GP gave me a leaflet to read and said consult him if i started to cough again. I feel like i've been left to get on with it! This video has helped already . All American i hope you are doing ok?

Love your use of PECHIN - Scots language!
PECH, v., n., int. Also pe(c)gh, paich, paigh, paech (Sh. 1933 J. Gray Lowrie (1949) 13), peagh (Cai. 1872 M. McLennan Peasant Life 46); ¶paach; peech, peich. Also freq. forms pechle (Rxb. 1923 Watson W.-B.), paichle, paighle, peghle (Sc. 1833 Chambers's Jnl. (April) 73).
    [pɛ]
    I. v. 1. (1) To breathe quickly and in a laboured way, to pant with exertion or the like, puff, gasp for breath (Sc. 1808 Jam.; Gall. 1824 MacTaggart Gallov. Encycl. 377). Gen.Sc. Occas. tr. as in 1867 quot. Hence vbl.n. pechin, -an (Gen.Sc.), pechlin, shortness of breath, the act of panting (Bnff. 1866 Gregor D. Bnff. 122; Sc. 1880 Jam.), ppl.adjs. pech(l)in, paich(l)in, short-winded, asthmatic, breathless, pech(l)t, paich(l)ed, paighled, out of breath, exhausted (Ags. 1825 Jam.; Abd., Per. 1903 E.D.D.; Abd., em.Sc.(a), s.Sc. 1965). It is uncertain however whether this latter is the same word or rather a variant of Pauchle, v.1

Very good info. I came down with a flu beginning in October. I coughed so hard I finally tore a chest muscle. Very painful to cough. Flu is long gone but I continue to have excessive drainage in the morning and keep tearing my muscle. Now I am trying to cough as lightly as I can. Lou from Michigan.

This is one decent presentation. A caring & knowledgeable person who, in my opinion, deserves a proper audio for her presentation, instead of the "roomy" noise going on throughout. It wouldn't be difficult to achieve & I'm sorry Lothian hasn't given more professional help with this. Main thing, well done Ms Gleason, wish I could attend your clinic personally. Heed this excellent advice.

@@carolinelee2944 yes they are. I am cycling again, not at the level of intensity that I used to or the mileage. I think what help the most is that I never stopped exercising not matter how slow or long. Still on the Symbicort and still dealing with some phlegm.

A high dose of Vitamin C would also be useful and if you take (anti)biotics you should also take a (pro)biotic to put the good bacteria back. Practicing breathing techniques is as good as regular exercise and can help with many diseases and disorders, yoga and tai chi are based on proper breathing and they do wonders for people with ills and promote weight loss, good deep breathing oxygenates the blood and will boost energy levels as well. Also if your over 50 you should take a regular multivitamin and mineral supplement and some extra Vitamin D3 in winter months due to lack of sunlight.
