- This video serves as a correction to the previous version of this video, which has since been removed. I am not a super tech. I make mistakes.
Anyway, this is a sound comparison of the 3 main motor brands that whirlpool has used across the impeller-equipped VMWs with 1/3HP motors.
Motor 1 is made in Mexico.
Motor 2 is made in China by Welling.
Motor 3 is also made in China, but it's made by Nidec.
PLEASE NOTE: This is by no means an exhaustive comparison, there very well may be more types that I am not yet aware of.
This also does not cover the 3.5 cubic foot agitator versions of these machines, which, at least as of now, I don't have a clear enough picture to know what is what. - Развлечения
Man the vid makes the welling (Motor number 2) sound loud. In person it's the quietest motor of the three.
i'd prefer the maytag motor
I think the second washer sounds the best. This is a very nice comparison test.
I'm team Welling myself.
They're the most quiet in person, at least in my experience. No annoying "whining" noise in agitation in comparison to the other motors, particularly motor number 3.
My dad’s washer has this motor as this at 0:10 I believe. It’s a Whirlpool WTW4900BW0. You can’t really hear it very well as the bearings kind of cover up the motor sound because the bearing is shot on that unit. My doesn’t care so it’s not getting repaired. He actually used to have a direct drive and it did work before he replaced it. The only reason why he replaced it is because he wanted a more efficient machine. He usually uses the normal cycle, fabric softener off.
I'd use it with fabric softener on to get a real rinse, instead of a stupid spray rinse more of a sprits.
I liked the solid and powerful sound of #1 and the smooth sound of #2 but #3 sounded as though it struggled.
#1 definitely has the most "solid" sound, I agree.
#2 is smooth and quiet, but has quite the solid sound to it as well in person.
#3, well, I just have never liked the "whine" that it has as it first gets off the ground. Dunno how exactly to describe it, but as you say, it makes it sound almost unhealthy.
1 and 2 sound damn near identical with a few minor differences. Over all I still prefer welling because of how quiet it is and how smooth it sounds
I agree with this. 1 and 2 are pretty similar in sound, with 2 having less of a low hum to it (until the speed limiter kicks in as it approaches 700).
Overall the Welling is definitely the smoothest runner.
I believe these are all AC motors, not DC. Also I like the sound of the first one most because it does not have much of a humming sound at full speed. The GE HydroWave washers tho, actually used DC motors.
Number two is my favourite
That's my favorite too.
They're all nice, but I like motor number 1's windup sound the best
#1 has the most "substantial" sound I'd say.
They all sound similar
My favorite is Motor #1
Definitely has a pretty nice sound to it.
@@Smurdle450 plus it reminds me of my mother's friend's Maytag. I believe the model was MVWX655DW or something like that.
Also the first one I think is a Welling. However, the WTW4900BW0 uses an unknown motor that is made in Mexico.
Out of all of them I prefer No. 1
That one has a nice, solid sound to it.
I think that number 3 sounds the closest to our Maytag whirlpool manufactured washing machine.
What model do you have?
It was something like MVW565FW0 or something like that, I’ll check tomorrow.
Yeah it is MVWC565FW0
That would make sense then, as I'm pretty sure those ones use a motor that is similar to the one in my 4850. I'm quite confident that those motors are made by Nidec, But there's no branding on the motor itself, only a website that leads to Nidec.
I like motor 1 and motor 2
I'll definitely agree to preferring 1 and 2.

1 and 2
Same here.
"my old watermark was huge lmao"
I like 1 and 2 even though I won't trust China or Mexico. Better off having something built in Texas like the Tundra
I am pretty sure the crosly has a welling motor
I'm pretty confident in that too.
One day if you get a vid of it spinning up i'd love to hear it!
(Note: my 4850 spin was done in service, but I think colors also shuts off the pump at some point.)
You should compare these motors in agitation mode on high speed.
I intend to do one at some point.
Problem is they were also shifting between different gearboxes, so it will be difficult finding certain combos.
@@Smurdle450 What do their gearboxes look like? How do they sound with different gearboxes? What type of belt do these washers use?
I'll try to answer the sound question as thoroughly as I can in a future video.
@@Smurdle450 I'm looking forward to these videos. And for the record, I am anxious to see and hear what the new GE commercial washer looks and sounds like in action.
Motor 3
0:56 broad ocean motor
I thought that initially, but I have run into some speed bumps confirming that, so I have chosen to leave it as unknown until I know for absolute sure.
@@Smurdle450 firealarmtechguy4444 told me
@@Smurdle450 the broad ocean motors seem to have the best torque
I like moter#3
Unique one for sure. Has a sort of whine sound as it nears full speed, that the other motors don't have.
I kind of like the whining sound
It also whines when the belts starts turning
thought the wtw4850hw/wtw4855hw used a broad ocean motor 🤔
I thought that initially but I believe it's actually made by Nidec.
imo the 1st one sounds the most beefy and deep while the 3rd one is poo
The first motor sound are from Brazil...
I believe Brazilian models used the mexico-made motor, yes.
First view

I like all of them but maytag
The 3rd machine has a broad ocean motor in it.
