Sure us a mighty crop, could never grow crop that here in N.Ireland, even with plastic. Read article about you on "That's farming",said your ancestors were Ulster Scots, just like myself. We're not a bad lot, hard workers, but bloody obstinate and won't give up!
We have a pretty good climate for growing maize here, would help if it rained a little more tho 😂 Yep they lived just outside of Londonderry/Derry and moved here during the famine. Great lot 👌😂
Watching from south Tipperary here and great video some fantastic drone shots 👏🏻👏🏻 here in 🇮🇪 we don’t start harvesting it till October, crop not as green And cob is harder!!
Brilliant stuff Andrew, great to see the Irish bucks flyin the flag 🇮🇪 You should have asked Pa who'll win the hurling this year, Tipperary men love thier hurling 😁 I have a couple of suggestions regarding the pit's, I'll message you direct.
@@TheOnceADayFarmer if I ever visited I'd probably end up staying too. My older brother was there in the 90's and he loved it, he said it's a beautiful country with great people.
I thought one.looked kinda donnely-ish but modified. And yeah I've seen a lot of hilly ground and smaller trailers might be better option. Thanks for reply
Thanks for the video Andrew, the drone footage is great. I think you've got the maize in at exactly the right time. 32%DM is perfect for fermentation and if you go much higher you really run the risk of heating at the face when you open it. The grain was at the right stage and will digest well. Being green, the leaves and some of the stem will also be a good source of NDF rather than just indigestible fibre so you are getting value out of the whiole plant, not just the grain. If you only want starch, just buy maize grain!
Hullo Andrew, the simplest and cheapest way to fix up your maize storage is to use pre cast panels. If you create a completely new feed storage near the large one that was filled first you can get this built with concrete pad and connecting steel coming out of the floor. The sides could be 400mm thick and go up to 2m tall getting you twice the storage you have as present. Good luck
2 meter high walls would be awesome 👌 I can’t build near the first one tho as I’ve run out of flat land unfortunately, I could always do earth works and would have to pull down that shed but probably not worth it at this stage 👍

Great video so wish we had the weather you've got over there. It's still cold here in Indiana in the USA. We haven't even started putting in our gardens yet.
I wonder if your using the same terms as we do here in the US. We almost never chop with the dry matter under 40% That is still 60% moisture. With anything under 40% we get terrible run off out of the bunks. In our up right silos we want it a little drier than that, around 45-50% dry matter in them. If you would put 32% dry matter in them they would freeze terrible along the walls in the dead of winter.
I would think they’d be the same 🤷 Even this crop which is pretty low DM% it hasn’t had any run off yet. Would you build silos now or it that old fashioned? Like it a pit/bunk better to build than a silo now a days? Lucky we don’t get that cold 😅
Great video mate. Out of interest, what was the corn cracker set at, as you well know it needs to be cracked else it will go straight through the cattle. We used to set it 1mm
I don’t understand exactly what happening. It looks like it’s grinding up everything. What about the corn on the cob, is that all part of it. Forgive me for not understanding. Live in New York City.
Awesome. I think watching this confirms I should do maize too. I've given up on the turnips lol, So how many tons in total in the end ? And how many hectares was that ?
I’ve never done turnips but maize is a pretty safe bet, it was about 6ha all up but not too sure how many tonnes it was all up, never got the choppers reading
No, you can’t eat these ones, they would taste like flower probably, they’re not sweet at all. I do plant sweet corn in the crop sometimes, I’ll do it next season 👍
Not that full, I either got heaps in the 1st pit or the yields are down a bit 🤷 He’s on the other side of town, I don’t really know but I don’t think he used to be as big as he once was
Has contractors charges gone up with yee...with the price of diesel etc.diesal here is around 1 40 euro a litre..was 95 cent s a litre 2 weeks ago..u can have some of our rain.bloody no end to it at moment..cows housed.barely kepting out breeding heifers.

Is it just me or are the maize crops bloody fall this year, I've seen some.out tamahare way that look to be 12 to 15ft tall and that was a couple of weeks back, yours looks as tall as the harvester
Great Video, the Irish boys know their job and do it well! I bet they deal with some dodgy stacks back at home! thanks for sharing
Very great video!
Your man on the jcb knows what he’s doing x
Nice to see an Irish man in New Zealand especially a Tipperary man .I am a Carlow man in Ireland

Thanks mate appreciate it 👌👍
Fine crop mate, all this summer weather has us very jealous over here. Great stuff 💪👍
Thanks mate, don’t worry we’re immensely jealous of your wet weather, 100mm over three summer months makes it pretty challenging 😅

Really great drone footage Andrew i Great to see another Tipperary man doing a good job in NZ -- UP TIPP

Great to see some Irish faces, damn those trailers are small,.cute little things we would call them. Great video as always looks like a great crop.
That blue ones from Ireland it’s a Donnelly 😂 although you should see some of the places they have to go 😅

That’s really reassuring! I was thinking after maybe I should have left it a bit longer so good to know thanks 🙏
That's a very good crop, nice to see it above the harvester cab.
Great video Andrew be good feeling have that job all done for another year. That stackman did an awesome job.
He’s pretty good 👍 definitely a good feeling to get it off and in the pit
Clutch Lock like they put on early would be handy.
Yeah missing one of them too 😩
great shots and info on your maize , interesting putting ol maize bottom 2nd year , great all fitted in pits , keep up great videos,
🙏
Wish you all the best Manager of the year Waikato region
Thanks man 🙏👍
Good crop Andrew, I hope you get the rain soon. You can't beat having a good Irish driver on the shovel., great job 👏 👍.
So do I 🤞 no there’re always pretty good when they come over 🇮🇪
I'm from iowa and where still a month away from planting "maize" lmao still got snow on the ground here and we are getting some more tomorrow!
Sounds like it’s been pretty cold over there recently 🥶
Loved the aerial footage, good music choice too 👌
Thanks 🙏

Good drone work mate 👍
Thanks 👍
Here in northern Michigan it went down to 10°F snow in forcast for today. We are hoping and dreaming of springtime
That’s sounds pretty cold to me 🥶, especially when I remember combining in 100F in Texas and that was pretty nice 😂
Nice to have her in the pit Andrew an don't talk about rain I'm sick of it here 🤣🤣
Great feeling 👌 ahh send it this way! We’re sooo dry again 😩 just won’t rain, had 100mm in 3 months 😅
We use gravel bags on our silage pits
I should get some to try out 👍
Keep it up, your content is beautiful, your follower from UAE
Thanks man, awesome 👏
Brilliant I’ve been waiting for this x🥰
15:53 can see couple of birds running.
Yes they are called Pukeko in the Maori language and are swamp birds, although the get everywhere if they have a water source nearby.
great video, love chopping time

Im new to the channel and learning about cattle. Is there a specific breed of corn to raise for the cows also how long does it last before expiration?
Sort of, best to talk to a maize agronomist, but we do have types here that are more suited for dairy farmers
im from neighbouring county waterford👍 to jcb man paudie
Love watching your channel keep it up
Thanks! 🙏
Its a long way to Tipperary !
Great video mate. Out of interest, what was the corn cracker set at, as you well know it needs to be cracked else it will go straight through the cattle. We used to set it 1mm

Hon Tipp 💪🏻 plenty rain here 🤮
Send some over here! It’s so dry again 😩
Watch Tom Pemberton video when he did silage and see the covers he put on. He uses gravel bags instead of tyres.
Maybe I should get some of those to try along the sides 👍
Awesome. I think watching this confirms I should do maize too. I've given up on the turnips lol,

I’ve never done turnips but maize is a pretty safe bet, it was about 6ha all up but not too sure how many tonnes it was all up, never got the choppers reading
I would like to think it averaged 20-22t/ha
Hello him dumping past the pit would not have made me to happy but I know things happen. Have a great day.
Haha yep I almost gave him the shovel..I probably should’ve!
@@TheOnceADayFarmer Thanks your reply I think so but whats done is done. Have a great day
Could anybody tell me,, how many days is perfect for harvesting maize silage..
Awesome video. What are you reseeding the paddocks with?
Thanks mate, Probably going to put in annual in, get the seed from Finch’s, they buy a container from someone down south
Hi Andrew, what variety corn Is this and how many day's? We've got a 100 acres in here in Australia thats bout ready to come off 👍
The brand is Corson and the variety is called plentitude, is about a 110 day maturity crop.
Awesome, hope it’s looking good 👍
Ah yeah righto nice 👍
Do you guys use ag bags? Instead of making a new pit, would it be worth it to throw in an ag bag?
There is a contractor around with one but just too expensive so don’t really use them
Hi I like your video
Who saw the pukeko’s running for their lives @ 15.54?
Do you ever take any corn cobs for you and the family ? X
No, you can’t eat these ones, they would taste like flower probably, they’re not sweet at all. I do plant sweet corn in the crop sometimes, I’ll do it next season 👍
I would never have known I thought was all the same , learn something new every day 😊😊😊
Can't beat the Irish I from Ireland wexford
👌👍
How full is the 2nd stack? Is John Austin not in as big away as he was?
I think John is still as big as ever, has a lot of gear on the move.
Not that full, I either got heaps in the 1st pit or the yields are down a bit 🤷
He’s on the other side of town, I don’t really know but I don’t think he used to be as big as he once was
Awesome vid! Can't help but be impressed at the massive investment in machinery your contractor has made!
Yep it’s pretty impressive 👌 20k subs and I’ll do a tour of his yard 🤞
Love the vids

That’s probably pretty true 👍
good vid
is that all your maize andrew?
Yep that’s all 👍
Hon the Irish I’m Irish myself
To be sure to be sure
Oh I c it know u do silage.
Are the paddocks going back to grass or chicory Andrew?
They’ll go back into an annual grass and back to maize next season 👍

It’s bit of mixed bag, some are good and some are a bit average, they said this was one of the better crops around 👍
