    Very helpful, I wondered why an old Morris hoist I had no longer released as I remembered it used to after not using it for 10 years or more and it did indeed have a very similar mechanism to the one shown shown but I was reluctant to use too much force so I drilled a hole in the case so I could release the rachet paul by screwing a 2ba bolt in when I wanted to lower the hook and removing the screw when lifting. I will now use a bit more brute force and fix it properly.

    I havr a hoist similar to this 1..I loved it..but it stripped inside somehow..I have to take it apart once I figure out how to unhook it from what it's holding..gonna buy another 1 when I save up some money..

    Well I found that mine had grease on the brake pads! Which well almost took me finger off! No grease is supposed to be anywhere near the brake pads!
