The smaller photos are CDV's Carte de Visite, they measure 4" x 2-1/2"

Thank you for this. I've gotten so many photos from storage units and had no idea where to start.

First time subscriber great video!! I just bought a very VERY old album full of old pictures. And I have no clue what they are worth. This video really helped.
I just started selling on eBay this year, learning lot’s.
    Thank you
    Blessings

So glad I saw your interview on commonwealth pickers. I have been selling on ebay for 20+ years and you taught me some things watching this first video of yours I have just watched. Seems I need to stat selling photos. Have about 100 marines in Nicaragua, China, and WWII pacific (from my grandfather) and old family I can sell. I did sell three small WWII bomber photos I picked up for a dollar resold for $45. Selling more modern photos was something I never imagined would be worthwhile. I like your channel. Thanks! Subscribed.

Hi Pat!! Welcome!! First of all thank you so much for the kind words. So a few things for you here. When it comes to military photos the more of the story you can tell a buyer the better. Old WW2 stuff will do really well especially if you can identify the soldiers or locations. If I’m honest I wouldn’t lot them up unless you want to be rid of them. Individually they will sell. And you’ll find that people will buy multiple. You might even have one buyer that cleans you out. Hope this helps you a bit more 😁

If you use some kick ass key words some of those basic photos can sell for more then they typically would.
Been selling photos for years now (Dont judge my age based on what videos and my profile picture shows, as my daughter likes to mess around on here)
So much fun to dive in and research old photos, sometimes a simple photographer depending on location could impact the value.

When I would go to our woolworth those photos were sold for 10 to 20 for a dollar or two. Now I kick myself for not buying the trunk. 😢I always looked through them, loved trying to piece together their life story.

Family photos... who knew? I have several boxes of them from a storage unit auction we won a few weeks ago. Contacted the storage nit company and there was no known family to pass them on to. I think I know what to do with these now... thanks for the info!

Thank you! Oh that’s great! They sell fairly well for us. If you list enough you’ll get repeat buyers for sure.

The small image is called a Carte De Viste CDV. Also CDVs and Cabinet Cards go for roughly the same amount. I actually sell more CDVs than Cabinet Cards.

I had a snake charmer lady CDV that I sold for 300 bucks. Unfortunately I way underpriced it, but 10 cent cost to 300 bucks? Kaching.

Since you're doing some of these category educational videos, would you be willing to (or direct me to one you've already done) about postcards and the eBay shipping method you do? My understanding is they have a special rate for those. thank you!

    • @PittsburghPicker
      @PittsburghPicker  Год назад +1

Yup eBay standard envelope is the method. I haven’t done one yet unfortunately. I plan to in the very near future. In the mean time I would recommend marks Channel SMPOSTCARDS. He had a video on shipping he did awhile back. Or I hope to have one out in the next week or so.

I always wonder who the people were, their stories were.. Least ebay has cut down the destruction of images; they used to just get slung in skips as older people died, even with living relatives as many didn't want a heap of old pics (I would!) hopefully more now get saved & go to new homes. I notice online ancestry sites, its usually US that have photos; rarer in UK, maybe there were more studios in US, or more demand as emigrants wanted pics to show relatives back home they were doing well, but I'd pay a lot £$ if I could only have the same pics of my 19thC ancestors!
